  1. WOW - $ 457 per annum sub ................ sounds like a golf clubgympie aero club takes the view that they would rather have the person rather than the money (only $ 60 / annum sub) (the club gets income from hangar fees so the sub is not critical for funds)

Yes it is a bit of a hit, but when you look at our hire / fly costs compared to others, you get that money back in no time at all.

  2. $180 dual. Sticker price was $5k for 30 hours over 1 year to get certificate. It was a bit less with a 0.1 hour discount here and there. Jabiru J120. Tasmania.

How much is club membership? The instructor only makes $13 / hour?

All instructors are volunteers to the club. Annual club membership is $457. It cost me around $4000 to obtain my pilots certificate and cross country / passenger endorsement.

We also have a theory instructor who donates his time.

  3. This will be an interesting discussion. Sure there is many views. Near adelaide, there is many private strips and strips not on the map, in amongst strips on the map using 126.7. So for them to be talking on different frequencies will make it interesting. Let alone more congestion on Adelaide Centre for the incoming flights.

  4. Like the idea of it. Ozrunways does some of this already, but as you stated, you are after a free service. The trouble would be keeping it updated with relevant information.

A few things to add would be

    - airstrips next to towns / very short walk

    - Airstrips within xx distance / time from your departure airfield (ie want to go for an hour flight somewhere)

    - Type of fuel available

    Cheers

  5. Sad times indeed Tim, I'll be the same when the Bulldog finally goes. Not planned as yet but I'll see how the Explorer turns out, nothing but awesome I reckon. I remember when I picked up the Bulldog the previous owner couldn't hang around when the container doors were closed and sealed. I feel one gets more attached to an airplane than a car.On a brighter note, 4 - 500 mtr for your new airstrip is cool but couldn't you make it 600 haha! Only joking.

New hanga and airstrip! you have some work ahead of you. Maybe some flyins and working bee's would help.

    Steve

Agree there Steve, 600m would be better!! (For me that is). Looking forward to seeing your explorer up in the air one day too.

Sad day tim, but excited to hear about your project in the works. And that is a massive Hanger. How did you get that approved (My finance manager / boss would never approve of that)

  6. Completely co-incidental: ( and I am in NO WAY suggesting that this accident was the result of pilot error in not knowing how to handle spins): the Darling Downs Soaring Club has set up a 'Spin Awareness Clinic for Power Pilots' scheme:http://www.ddsc.org.au/spin-clinics The brochure looks as if it's a pretty good programme.

Adelaide Soaring club is offering one too. The GFA is aiming to have at least 1 running in each state I hear.

Having just been on the one at ASC, very much worth it.

  7. Here's the pictures of the gaps that I have left under the capstrips, top and bottom. Its the best way I could come up with to keep the fabric stitches all uniform. The stitching will be spaced at 80 mm even across the fuel tanks.

I have a few days away again and when back I hope to get into the covering.
