    Washout??

No Lyle. Only those who cannot feel anything and dont slow down do this. Well tested and with aileron washout on various Jodels like yours. Much nicer roll contrl. Chas

    Washout??

Only flight test will tell especially low speed turns. As I said before a little aileron droop can make a huge difference here. It also helps stop hinge ware. It wont slow you down as some will claim. But it could save your life. Chas

    Washout??

If you cannot find anything try 2 degrees. Droop the aileron the thickness of the trailing edge as well? Chas
  4. I have only seen a Russian test pilot discribe it as well though differently. He did not like Bernalle either but Bernelle did have more to do with flight than Marconi. Chas
  5. Learn to fly without brakes. I flew for years without them. Taildragger and no tied up tail wheel. Students knew no different and now only use them as an aid. Chas
  6. Told my friend to be here before sunrise as we were flying to a meeting at the bottom of the south island NZ. As he has over an hours drive I felt that I had plenty of time to get the Jodel out and fired up. Well a server frost said otherwise. As soon as the Jodel was pulled out it became a sheet of ice. Pulled the prop through and tried an engine start. Well no way. Half an hour with a heat gun over the pots and she just made it. The sun was just starting to shine and Tom arrived. More time to deice and off into the still morning air from the 1000 ft grass runway. The start of a great day. Chas
  7. The Pietenpole complete with ford model A engine would have been the first in 1928. Plans were published a page at a time in several issues. Many still getting built. Chas.
  8. You can stall a plane at any time or attitude just by pulling the pole back. You can make a plane unstallable just by inserting a bolt so that you cannot. Hopefullt best rate of climb means that you do use ground effect and care for your engine. Best angle probably means you dont and it look bloody awfull. Chas
  9. I told of a Jodel from Rangiora NZ being ferried to its new owner at Taieri. Any info on which one to who. Chas.
  10. The way the system shot him down in flames. The late Frank Rogers was there too. Somewhere on my computor is the Millicer story. A brilliant guy. Chas
  11. Thanks Oscar. It takes a lot of effort to do this. Others mentioned the tall poppy. Remembe the Victor and Henry Millicer. A famous Aussie story. Chas
  12. Dear Santa, all I want for Xmas is a 12 cylinder two strke diesel. It will weigh about 85kg and produce around 130 cruise horsepower. As it does not require any compression it will be turbine smooth with no torsional issues. I look forward to Xmas. I promise to be good and will not break my aeroplane. Chas
  13. Hello Graham, its flown for four short flights and has not been over 500 ft. I dont want to scare it just yet. No wing heavyness, no buffet from the leading edge radiator. Ailerons feel good. Drooped of course. And that big elevator. Well quite nice, no buffet with no counter weight. The trim makes it very stable. I will reduce the travel a little. Split flaps are great. Ah yes the engine, pulls it off the ground in 600 ft at 40mph, very quiet and nothing vibrates. Prop is an Ian Henry. It does need a bit more cooling and am doing that now. IDI diesels generate more heat than others but are not as harsh. Landing is a breeze. The big bugger was back at 45 mph with flap and rock solid. hHowever lots to learn, Chas
  14. After flying other aircraft jumping back into the faithfull Jodel is tops. You can get old in a Jodel and have a lot of fun on the way. Chas
  15. Thanks for that Lyle, my Jodel is a D150 hybrid. The D18 bit comes from the scaled wing and tailplane. The aircraft is really a new design. Engine as you know is Peugeot. The whole project has been quite a big learning curve. As always the ones who have not done it yet offer the most advice. It lifts off at 40 mph and 600 feet. Very gentle and positive in the air. Will flt easily at 1950 rpm.Has a normal jodel wooden prop. Chas
  16. I fly the Jodel diesel in NZ. Still early test flying. Jodel is updated D150. Chas
  17. Hello Leslie, I see you are a young guy like me. Am typing on smart tv and could not find the way to post here. Will keep looking. Chas from NZ

      Lesliewg

Hello diesel. Yes I am young, for my age, but have decided to grow older doing what comes naturally - defying the odds and doing the things now that I didn't have time for in the past.
