  2. It will be great to see another "little one" in the skies around Goulburn. Congrats on the Himax, must have been a great trip down!!!!
  3. I thought the issue was about the outsourcing of the Qantas work overseas when we have the competent staff here. Am I naive or has the Qantas reputation suffered by placing this work overseas and not haveing the same high standard of QA we used to have. Obviousy the bottom line rules in place of looking after the people who care and matter.
  4. I have an approval from RAA-Aus to fly my Xair with a rotax 2 stroke engine over built upo areas, just remember your min heights Cheers Maynard

  7. That is brilliant. Noisy, but brilliant!!!!!
  8. Earlier this evening a trike crashed into a paddock beside the Goulburn aerodrome, killing the pilot. Emergency services were quick on the scene. More news later Cheers Maynard
  9. If people feel that strongly about the current encumbemts then where were they when the elections were being held. Stand for election if you feel that strongly.
  10. Thanks Steve, Spoke to Tony's wife this morning and will order them off her. Cheers Maynard
  11. I am trying to get hold of a copy of the Tony Hayes tail dragger training manual (students version). I can't seem to get onto the website site. Are these books still available, and if so where from? If not, does someone have one I can buy from them? Thanks Maynard
  12. Bigpete, I know what you are going through. My sincere condolences to you and yours. My thoughts are with you.
  13. The probe sits in the water jacket around the cylinders, unless it is longer that 6 inches it wont hit anything.
  14. Looks like the tent under the wing again, great fun last time!!!!!
  15. The probe that fits the standard hole in holden engines is the one that I use in my 582. Thread and nut on the top to take the sensor wire. Probe is earthed through the brass body of the probe.
  16. Take care Gordon, you are starting to sound logical and are making good sense. Remember this is the Government you are talking about and they ain't happy untill you ain't happy. 8)
  17. Hey Burbles, I also have a MTOW of 120kg and have a rag and tube aircraft,( MTOW 490kg). Runs a 582 and has no problems lifting me and doing navs (Goulburn to Inverell and return, Leongatha to Goulburn etc). The lighter aircraft will handle you just as well. I have also taken passengers with not much change in performance (but only up to MTOW 490kg.) Cheers Maynard
  18. Well done Rach!!! Great filming (what did they use?), great music. You can't dispute the nav with proof like this. Congratulations.
  19. I have problems with birds in the hanger I rent in Goulburn. I just cover the plane in old bed sheets and wash them every so often to get rid of the bird crap. There is a product called "hotfoot" that some factories use to put along the tops of beams etc that the birds hate. I have used silastic along the tops of beams in the hanger with some success.
  20. I agree with the above. I would not object to the increases but I would like to see some value for the extra dollars. Apart from the magazine and the yearly subs, some obvious support for members in exchange for the dollars would be appreciated. What can we expect that would be tangible? Maynard
  21. I dont think the actual fibreglass mat or fabric is the problem, the resin used to manufacture the tanks etc is the problem. I have recently made additions to my fibreglass tanks and have been careful to research the problem. The problem appears to be in the polyester resin some companies use. The underground fuel tanks and the new tanks are made using vinylester resin which I believe is very chemical resistant. (so say the experts). I have been told that id your tank has been laid up using vinyl ester resin then it should be ok to use for ethanol based fuels. Just my 0.2 c Maynard
  22. Bought an Icom A4 out of the states last year. Don't know about approvals but it works great in the air and on the ground. Maybe the Yank/european/aussie versions are identical and the difference is in the price (bloated profit) you pay for the AUS branding!!!
  23. If you fly to Armidale in the states north, the elevation of the airport is 3550'. The 1500' overfly will put you above 5000'. I regularly fly over 5000' above highland tiger country to be able to glide to safety. I do have a radio so I don't, in these circumstances, see it as an issue. Just my 0.05c Maynard
