  1. Insurance may not be quite that steep Poteroo. We pay $2,500 for $130,000 cover on our RV9A. This is in a group sceem mind. As you say other costs will be (and are) similar. Cheers
  2. And had the ATSB not investigated this one then I guess we would not of been discussing the poor aviation engineering practices of the aircraft in involved amongst other things in the other thread. I can't help but think that this was brought on by CASA to show RA Aus they are looking for short falls in it's practices followed shortly after by an Audit. I have no beef with either CASA or RA Aus as I hold both a CPL and RA Aus Certificate. Cheers
  3. Thanks Nev, but why the interest in this accident (Non fatal) that the ATSB were involved?? Cheers
  4. I know there has been a numerous amount of discussion in the Old Bar Accident thread. I have always gained alot from ATSB reports both preliminary and final and was extremely pleased to see that the ATSB were involved in the Old Bar Ferris Wheel accident back in Oct. I still don't know why they attended this accident when clearly they will not attend others. What made them interested in this accident? The Preliminary Report has brought to light some failings in a number of areas and is to be commended. It is for this reason that I believe reports of this kind should be published for all RA Aus accidents / incidents whether fatal or not. If the ATSB cannot or will not attend then RA Aus should publish their preliminary findings as soon as possible after the event. I think it is ATSB policy to have a Prelim Report out with in 30 days. Moderators. You may want to move this to one of the already running threads. Cheers
  5. Can any one please advise the approx basic empty weight, MTOW, VNO and VNE figures from the POH of a GR912s tail wheel or nose wheel Lightwing aircraft? Cheers
  6. Hi Doug, I agree the D-Plane is better known as the Verhees Delta and there is some video on Youtube of it (aircraft) flying. How is your EagleRay coming on? I would like to see some pictures posted of progress. Cheers
  7. This may be of interest to some of you thinking of homebuilding out there. http://www.d-plane.eu A two seater is on the way. Cheers
  8. From the news desk of RAA Canada. Price of 4130 steel tubing going up If you have a project that will require 4130 tubing for its completion it would be wise to buy this as soon as possible. Aircraft Spruce has been hit with price rises of nearly 100% from their manufacturers. In North America there are not many manufacturers of this specialty tubing - thank the past decade of government and corporate policies that have sent manufacturing offshore. Chrome-Moly tubing is not a high volume commodity so there have historically been few mills that will make the investment to make this. The small handful that are left appear now to be taking the opportunity to capitalize on the short supply, and how can anyone who has run a business blame them? Aircraft Spruce will sell current inventory at the normal prices but newly purchased inventory will have to reflect their increased costs. This is not good for builders of aircraft. There will likely be a knock-on effect of lower sales of fabric and the attendant supplies that have historically been purchased to cover newly built tube and fabric aircraft.
  9. Looks Great Ian, You can now relax and take a Christmas break!! Cheers
  10. Actual footage for the accident investigators (NZTAIC) will be a bonus! Cheers
  11. Hi all, Have a read of subpart 61.g.1 of this link http://www.casa.gov.au/newrules/parts/061/download/casr61-draftregs.pdf this is the draft for the new licence. I do note that if the holder of an RPL has a class two medical certificate then they can carry more than one passenger or if a pilot with a class two medical occupies a pilot seat and is endorsed on the aircraft then more than one passenger can be carried. This licence is still only valid for aircraft up to 1500kgs though. Cheers
  12. Well put David I. I am not sure that GA pilots jumping to RAA becuase of a medical problem is a loop hole as DH10 suggests. The RPL is the way to go though for those GA pilots to continue flying when not being able to pass the class 2 medical. Probably much safer than moving over to RAA and new aircraft types to get familiar with. I can see that this may see a reduction in RAA membership over time as the affected GA pilots will not make the transition as they currently have to do. Cheers
  13. I think you are right on it Yenn. The only reason the SAAA (AOPA) are pushing for this class of licence is so that their members who own and fly aircraft like Vans RV's etc that have MTOW's between 600kgs and 1500kgs will still be able to fly their aircraft but with the proposed restrictions. NZ (UK) went down this path two or three years ago as I understand it. Cheers
  14. Hi J170 owner, I am a ham (VK-4DKI). I have held a number of callsigns of ALL grades since 1966. I do not do alot these days and havn't done any aeronautical mobile for many years the last being during the eighties and on HF. I know of one or two other Hams on these forums. Cheers
  15. Thanks for the report Arthur. As this Report goes into RAAUS tomorrow, I would like to think that that reports like this would be on the website within hours and, at a minimum that those owners of this type of aircraft be notified by the quickest way possible. My pennies worth. Cheers
  16. No. That aircraft was through here though some months back then had the engine problems on departure out of Jandakot. Cheers
  17. Kununurra aerodrome was closed for two hours yesterday morning when a Replica Spitfire was involved in a Take off incident. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newshome/11492280/kununurra-crash-mars-charity-flight/ The occupants were both ok.
  18. G'day Ian, All up and running on .COM I am looking forward to all the new / updated features. Many Thanks and all the very best. Cheers
  19. Hi Andrew, as you are probably aware by now, a number of these aircraft have been involved in fatal accidents over the years. I know of one fatality in NZ (in air break up) back in the early nineties. A summary of the report is on this link http://www.taic.org.nz/AviationReports/tabid/78/ctl/Detail/mid/482/InvNumber/1992-007/Page/23/Default.aspx All the very best with getting your aircraft flying again and I look forward to reading your Blog along the way. Cheers
  20. G'day Ian, what are the "LHR" coordinates and strip details? Cheers
  21. Hi Deon, welcome to the site. What sort of Vintage aircraft have you been involved in? You will probably have many good wood working ideas you can pass on to members. Cheers
  22. Hmmm I think Option 2 Ian but happy either way. Lets see what others prefer. Cheers
  23. Well done Ian, The politics back around Board election time "nearly" had me depart the site! Cheers
  24. Hi Pete, take a look at this thread re your subject. http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/skyfox-wings-21-through-25n.27063/ Cheers
