planesmaker Posted November 8, 2014 Share Posted November 8, 2014 Quite common actually. The later 6 pin plug units fail in start circuit. So they don't fail while running usually but next flight you can't start the engine. One usually fails at a time but you never know because engine will start on one unit. Rotax have apparently brought out an improved unit now but they have not done anything towards replacing defective units. Very expensive at around $1600 a pair inc freight! This is why I start on one mag only and alternate start-ups between the two. Happyflyer, Quite a number of reported failures on "rotax-owner" forum. A lot from before the soft start (2006-7?) Rotax came out with some temp sensitive tape to check operating temps of the modules thinking they were getting too hot in some cowled setups. Ironically some users reported that heating the modules up (heat gun/hairdryer)prior to use got them working again. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
