Hello John and 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif...I`d like to see some photos of your area, if you have some... Home for my wife and I, is 45k south of Cairns, Queensland, Australia... Here are a couple of the area I mainly fly around.

The first one, from the arrow to the east, is of our property and one of my strips...The second one, looking north towards our property, is of Russell Heads, where the Mulgrave and Russell rivers meet then flow out to sea, ...The third, is of Normanby Island, 7.5 nm out from Russell Heads.

Hi, just joined.I am a UK based PPL(H) and owner flying EC120 and R44 helicopters out of Redhill (EGKR) and my home in the Western Highlands of Scotland. My machines are mainly used for passenger charter work but I do get some time myself.

Regards

John

Hi John,

I have some friends live at Plockton - do you fly near there at all?

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome.

Pictures? Well, I think my airspace might be a little more restricted than some of you appear to have:

6837372121_87d76a15d4_b.jpg

So, restricted to 1500 ft under Gatwick CTA, then 2500 ft (etc, etc). Through the London Heliroutes one section has a "Not above 800ft" but the views are spectacular.

If this picture posts (I am not good at computer stuff) then I will add a few showing the views.

John

467431930_DSC01033copy.thumb.jpg.c6e901b093423de22a29dbea6cf87dce.jpg Well, not having much luck so far posting a picture. Here's another attempt:

That's London, looking West along the heli-lane that runs along the Thames. Height restricted due to the big tin inbound to Heathrow, slotting in between the London City take-off's, this one was taken at 1,000 ft altitude whilst over the centre of teh river Thames just after leaving Canary Warf. Ahead is Tower Bridge, and the tall construction (crane on top) is the new Shard building, 1200 ft (so I get to look up at it as I pass).

South of London (East of my home base) this it Leeds Castle. Built in 1119, scene of some domestic troubles in 1321 when the Lady of the house refused to allow the consort of King Edward II to come in, and her guards fired on (and killed) the party of 6. For her trouble the good Lady was captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London.

Later Kin Henry VIII gave the castle a bit of a spruce-up for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.

Today, open to the public for a fee, or pictures from the air free of charge.

Flying in Scotland (top picture) is often on the basis of keeping to the valley due to cloud base being lower than the mountain tops. This was approaching Fort William from the North on my way back to Surrey to continue the day job.

Guest pookemon

Welcome John! You've certainly got some great scenery where you fly.

Nice photos Frank. What do they grow in the Aquaculture Ponds? (Aquatic Biologist by Education...) It's nice of them to put runways between the ponds. 022_wink.gif.2137519eeebfc3acb3315da062b6b1c1.gif

Frank - do you ever get over to the UK?

John, Unfortunately not but who knows, maybe some day!

One of my neighbours, John, is from England and now a naturalised Australian, so I call him, " John the Ausi pom ".

Here he is, sitting in the back seat of my Drifter.

Great photos Frank you spoilt bugger, the sceenery looks incredible around your patch.

John, I loved your shots too.

Brought back many memories.

Geez thats a tall monstrosity being built just S/W of Tower Bridge, at least you are flying above that smog.

Beware of my nephew when operating out of Redhill, he flys model helis and probably also his 200MPH+ jet model not far from the airfield.

Kind Regards

Planey

Welcome John: I love the pictures. I am sure you will enjoy being on this forum.

Thanks also to farri for picture of that neck of the woods (interesting about the moat-surrounded house ~ I didn't think there were any in Australia)
