The other three are: 1. the Pal-TV from the Netherlands; see: http://pal-v.com/ 2. the USA based Terrafugia; see: http://www.terrafugia.com/ 3. the South American Maverick; see: http://mavericklsa.com/ They have different configurations. I wonder which will work out best in the long run?

I wonder which will work out best in the long run? I believe the question should be, 'which is the least impractical of them all in the long run?' Compare useability to cost and we'll probably find they all end up a modern version of the 'Amphicar' of the late fifties .....curiousity value only. Could you imagine CASA and the Motor Traffic Authorities ever getting into bed on the concept? cheers
bexrbetter
3. the South American Maverick; see: http://mavericklsa.com/ Wow, the Maverick looks remarkably similar to a Cirrus. 4
dazza 38
With so many retarded drivers in Oz ( just look at Dash Cam Australia on FB) I think insurance will me mega expensive. A little nudge with another vehicle on the road will cost a fortune to fix.
Yenn
Cirrus. Brilliant.
Marty_d
The problem with flying cars (as well as insurance, idiots and road rash as mentioned above) is that they'll always be a compromise between the two, so you end up with something that's not a good car and not a good aircraft. For the price the high-end Aeromobil will come out at (my guess is somewhere around $150k) you could get a fantastic LSA aircraft, a great car, and a hangar.

The only problem there is that the problem the flying car is trying to fix still exists. i.e. The car and the hangar are only at one airport (unless you have lots of $$$). At all the other airports you are still without a car and hangar (so you still have to hire these). DWF
Marty_d
That's true Don. No easy answer apart from a fold-up bicycle or good mates at the airfield. These may fill a niche out there, and good luck to the designers - it's not for me though.

I have looked at a few of these scenarios and its actually way cheaper to buy the plane of your choice, fly it to where ever you want to go. Then hire a car. ( even at one horse towns without a standard hire car company I have managed to hire/ borrow a car from someone, usually local service station or tourist company. Or get a local tour operator to pick you up at airport and drive you round. No risks to your plane of a road crash, get a good plane and a good car. And it costs way less than a flying car.
