tillmanr Posted February 16 Posted February 16 (edited) I completed the Jabiru course some years ago and it was not restricted to L2/L4. It may have changed. Ask those offering the course. Edited February 16 by tillmanr Additional text. 1
BrendAn Posted February 16 Posted February 16 It said only open to l2s and l4 maintainers so I assumed I don't qualify. But as blue said I can ask.
CT9000 Posted February 16 Posted February 16 For what it's worth, I have done the Rotax course at Floods at Lilydale run by Wal. He is probably the most skilled Rotax bloke you will find and a great teacher. Well worth the time / money. The course not only covered maintenance but also overhaul. A lot to do in a couple of days but excellent training. I did the course a few years back so it may not be the same syllabus. 2

I suppose they think if they allow anyone then they might have to spend time explaining fundamentals and terminology that would slow things down for everybody. Not for one moment implying you dont know your stuff, just perhaps one reason they might limit entry. Good luck though, never hurts to ask. 1

Marty_SP500 Jabiru Posted Monday at 07:57 AM Posted Monday at 07:57 AM Hi all Newby here.. Has anyone got a link to the Jabiru L1 maintenance training? I believe its online , but seem to not be able to find it. Any help appreciated Thanks Marty
Marty_SP500 Jabiru Posted Monday at 08:25 AM Posted Monday at 08:25 AM Australia EastCoast - any one?
BurnieM Posted Monday at 08:27 AM Posted Monday at 08:27 AM RAAus has an online L1 course. It is generic and really does not give you any information about the Jabiru, or any, engine.
facthunter Posted Monday at 08:34 AM Posted Monday at 08:34 AM Look up under "Jabiru Approved Maintainers". Nev

There will be a cost to their line maintenance course as that what they told me back in April. 1

Moneybox Posted Monday at 09:51 AM Posted Monday at 09:51 AM As Burnie says, the RAAus online course is free and not specific to any model as L1 does not give you the authority to do in-depth engine repairs. You can do this course to allow you to maintain your aircraft legally using the manufacturers service procedures. You are supposed to get your RPL first but mine went through. The message came back that the L1 endorsement would by applied to my RPL certificate. 1

If you log into your member portal the l1 will be in the endorsement column and your RPC goes in the ratings column. 2 1

Look under Member Training - L1 course. All the materials you need to read are there. It teaches you Where to Look for information, rather than specifically, hands on, what to do. It is fully on-line. RAAus also run a 2 day course, which is a mixture of theory and prac. You may have to talk your local club into running one. Our club ran one in June 2025 with 8 participants. RAAus provides a trainer and the Club the venue, planes, catering etc. Participants pay a fee to cover the instructor (usually a staff member). We looked at a Jabiru engine and videos produced by Jabiru showing things like leak-down tests. The whole event was well worth the time. We did practical things like lock wiring, filter cutting and inspection, borescoping, etc. Also did Rotax. Contact Jarred at RAAus for more info. Jabiru would prefer you did their specific course - contact them in Bundaberg Qld. Alternatively, watch their videos.

T510 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) I did the 2 day practical L1 course at Wings out West in Dubbo. Was a great experience even if I had done most of the practical component previously. Was run by Darren Barnfield from RAAus and Dan from Wings out West. Edited 11 hours ago by T510
