Underwood Posted Wednesday at 06:41 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:41 AM I see it has one of those industrial V twin conversions installed. In my view a much better option than the 1/2 VW. there is a Spacek SD1 fitted with one at my airfield and it seems reliable though it doesnt fly often as we are exposed to a lot of high winds and turbulence and the SD1 being a very small taildragger doesnt fare well. 2 1
BrendAn Posted Thursday at 09:07 AM Author Posted Thursday at 09:07 AM Had a look at the spacek after you mentioned it. Very nice looking plane. 1
skippydiesel Posted Thursday at 10:40 AM Posted Thursday at 10:40 AM There is no way he could communicate effectively with that radio. At those engine speeds he should consider a reduction drive of some sort. Otherwise - very well done - must have been an exhilarating first flight😈

I think it looks awfull with the nosewheel, but the Taildragger looks quite nice. The one at my field is owned and flown by a quite small guy, I dont think you'd get an American sized person in one. 1
Litespeed Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Nice little tin bird. However it's missing most rivets on the screen support, possibly yet to have a canopy mounting point? Otherwise a bit poor for a factory video if rivets are missing. No such thing as spare rivets, everyone adds strength. 1 1
FlyBoy1960 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago the upper surface of the outer wing is vibrating aggressively. You can see it when he turns his head sideways around the 8 minute mark. Something is very wrong with this ! 1
Thruster88 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Empty weight has to be under 254lb or 115kg. A honda gx690 is 44kg, strip unnecessary parts and then fit a reduction it would be similar weight. Add prop, undercarriage, instruments and fuel tank leaves not much to build an airframe. That is why it oil cans. 1

The Ultracruiser is a development of the heavier Hummel Bird, designed to comply with the US FAR 103 Ultralight Vehicles rules, including the category's maximum empty weight of 254 lb (115 kg). The aircraft has a standard empty weight of 249 lb (113 kg).[1][3][4]
