I flew on one of Virgins B737-8FE's today (VH-YQR), and while waiting to load everyone on, I looked up the history of the aircraft.

I was surprised to come across an ATSB Incident Report from 2023, detailing a major flight upset with this aircraft, approaching cruise level - and the interesting part is - it involves an incorrect switch selection, due to distraction.

I thought this report made for an interesting read, and it shows just how easily a mistake in control selection can be made and how long it takes to figure out what has gone wrong with aircraft handling.

Air Nippon beat Virgin to it and managed over 130 degrees angle of bank.

Three crashes where the mental health of the pilots has been considered a possible cause - MH370, Germanwings and Air India.

Aside from ramblings by a range of self promoting keyboard experts there is no evidence of AI-171 being linked to mental health issues (or aircraft system faults).

Just as well they had a spare 11,000 ft to sort it out. Even though they had plenty of elevation they exceeded the maximum speed and load on the aircraft while in a vertical dive.

Any "UPSET" at cruise level requires about 9,000 ft to sort it out IF you are not right on the Ball anticipating it. Turbulence and control movements add extra drag and you are thrust limited especially if you are at "Coffin Corner" which I made a point of never going.  It's where your VMo and MMo come together.   Nev

The media are out to keep raking the coals around the crash, so they can milk it for all it's worth. Nothing new to report, until the Indian AAIB release a lot more information such as the full CVR record and any medical history on the pilots that could shine more light on their state of mind/s.

The FAA has reported that all their testing has found absolutely nothing wrong with the B787 fuel cut-off switch system, as regards the mechanical locking mechanism, and inadvertent switching by accidentally bumping them, is impossible.

I still suspect it was a "brain fart" on the part of the Captain - he was greatly worried about his elderly father, and was planning to retire to look after him. Not something a suicidal individual would plan.

7 Spotlight is about sensationalisng any issue without evidence or real facts to get ratings as the free to air commercial TV channels lose more and more viewers. Complete rubbish.

You wouldn't know if you didn't watch it.  The people interviewed made some good points about the

Mental health of airline pilots .

Many pilots are afraid to speak up if they have a problem because it can mean a long time without employment and thousands of dollars to prove they are fit to fly again.  There have been 8 suicide crashes that have killed hundreds of people.

IF you seek that kind of Information there would be many better sources of it than the One you used. All those outlets are interested in is ratings. so their revenue gets better. Fear sensationalism and hate. The OLD formula. . Pilot organisations deal with for one. It's often thing s Like being passed over for a Promotion when you thought YOU were inline for it.. Alcoholism Depression. The medical Assessments are supposed to cover the "Personality" things like "Manic Depression" etc. Nev

You are arguing about something you have not watched.

You need to see the thing for yourself to know if you are right or not.

the woman they interviewed was an ex pilot herself and i thought she made some good points. and the head of the aemerican pilots association

had a similar view.    i know these programs sensationalise stories for views but you focus on the genuine parts of the story.

if it was on the woke left abc i bet there would be no argument.

It would be good if more brought forward an opinion. Isn't THAT what it's supposed to be ABOUT? It's EASY to link to some Half Baked Guru or the quagmire of U tube.. I suppose it's better than nothing, BUT there's plenty of crazy stuff there IF you want a Challenge sorting it. . Nev
