    Why I don't fly now

The biggest problem is I get the Aurora Australis lights every time I close my eyes...this is what I see all night long with my eyes closed, and even a lot during the day with my eyes open: Corrine went and purchased a bed side clock with huge 2" numbers so i could see them:

    Bertin X-8

100hp from 8 cyl, I wonder why they made the cyl/pots so small but it would be one hell of a smooth engine when running

    Why I don't fly now

Thanks guys for the comments, to take the stick when flying with someone else would have to be with an instructor due to needing a biannual now which given my eye sight I would struggle getting and nor would it be the right thing to do...legally and morally. I should get my new glasses at the end of next week which will help with the actual magnification and talking to my eye specialist the other day he says that in a couple of years he will be forced to do something to correct my so called good eye...cataracts and a plastic lens. He is extremely reluctant to touch though as if anything went wrong I would be blind, full stop. I have been trying to get him to try and fix the detached retina but he says due to the type and severity of the detachment it is extremely risky so he won't. I told him to pull the darn thing out then as it is causing too many issues with my sight but he said that if anything happened to my other eye he would be forced to try and fix the detachment as I would be blind anyway so best to leave it in. Probably like many others, I could get by without hearing, speech or smell but sight...that is the worst I reckon

    Why I don't fly now

Went to my eye specialist as my eyesight is extremely bad now. I have had a detached retina in one eye for about 6 months, my bad eye which now has a plastic lens, a cornea graft and still can't see out of it, which has now got worse. I close my eyes and I still see a coloured lit area that makes it hard to go to sleep. My good eye has a cataract so I see double and my glasses are pretty darn strong already so basically I can't see out of one eye, see double with the other and having dancing lights when I close my eyes and try to sleep. They are stuffed
  5. Well, here we are with the new Blog System that I hope you may use to blog about whatever is on your mind you can even use the Blog system to run a complete blog on building an aircraft or whatever aviation activity that you would like to run your own blog on. YOU control your blog, YOU can make it public or private to whoever you would like to invite to see it, YOU can control what you place into it and what comments others make...so please, use the Blog System as you like, it is your own area so enjoy, and enjoy reading other user's blogs.
  6. We must take a moment and give EXTREME thanks to @Ahmed Zayed for spending hours all night developing a way to migrate all the Aircraft in the Aircraft Section...if he hadn't been able to achieve this then we would have been stuck on xenforo and the gaming style web site software direction they are now going...words would fail me to say how appreciative I am for him doing this and as I am sure you all are as well. Now, the Aircraft section uses an open style part of the software, that is I can create a separate database and pages that calls data from that database for anything I like, and that the site needs, unlike the closed software sections that are pre-built like the Forums, Gallery, Groups, Calendar etc. There are several databases I want to create for the site like Tutorials, Famous Aviators, etc and I would like to have them all have the same look and feel to make it easier for users and thus the Aircraft section would be amongst them. Once I have completed the migration etc of the closed software sections I will come up with a design that will suit all the database driven pages. I hope this helps to explain the process that I am taking
  7. This type of view is an option:
  8. Thanks @red750 for letting me know and yes I will get to it...there are a lot of things to do and letting me know these kind of things are a great help for when I get to those specific areas
  9. Unfortunately the data to pull out the thread creation date is not accessible without editing core software files...if it is a MUST HAVE then I would need to get @Ahmed Zayed to code it but it would not be an advisable exercise
  10. Both Whats New (Unread) and Whats New (All) are now defaulted to view in condensed mode. If you wish to have an expanded view click the Expanded button on the page and it will set expanded as default for you
  11. A "Back To Top" arrow button visible in the bottom right corner when scrolling down a page has been added
  12. That's exactly the same as the Whats New (All) selection
  13. @red750 I just tried by logging in as Corrine, a standard user, and did what I suggested, logged out, shut down browser, open site back up, logged back in as Corrine and the default was still saved as Whats New (All)...so not sure what is happening in your case...can you give me any further info? UPDATE...I just logged in as you and the Whats New default was showing Whats New (All) so it has saved it as your default
  14. Go to Whats New (All) and then on the right select Stream Options and then Set as your default stream
  15. On the agenda @red750 it will take me a couple of weeks to get everything fully migrated, sections opened up and changes made but it will get there. At the moment my focus is acting on the posts that get made in here, resolving any issues that users have or change what users don't like
  16. @RFguy is this the view you are saying has a lot of wasted space:
  17. Yes, it will be left like this. I posted back in June that the direction the old software was going and that it was not good. It would confuse everyone in using it and we would have had to have upgraded to that at some time...it was meant for young and technical people and more into the gaming type of communities...it was mixing articles etc with different display formats etc into the forum threads etc and in some cases every time you create a thread you had to decide if you wanted it as a discussion, an article, a poll or even select that you were asking a question, very confusing for the user. Plus the new layout would require a lot of work to make it appealing and easy to view and use. This software is more expensive but more in line with having different sections for you to choose what you want to view/use. I am guessing you don't want to view Forum Threads like this: I hope this helps to explain things
  18. Hi, you are now seeing the site after the complete update made on Tue 22nd Sept 2020 and to ensure all issues are addressed and any suggestions are implemented PLEASE post them here so I can address them. I can't address anything that is not posted so please post...thanks, I am hoping, with your help, we will create a whole new future here for Recreational Flying (.com) Please note there is still a lot more work to do to complete the migration and create the different sections
  19. Here is a screen shot of the new clean and fresh look:
  20. Hi all, this is just an advisory that it is planned for the site to close for a major software upgrade starting at around 4am on Tuesday morning 22nd September 2020. The closure will probably last till about late morning...I apologise for any inconvenience
  21. A huge thank you Red from every site user
  22. The new Books section has been added to the Off Topic site Social Australia so you can see what it is like and I am sure it will be a great asset to Recreational Flying with all the different Aviation books out there. Thanks @FlyingVizsla for the suggestion, greatly appreciated Also note that if you can purchase the book from Amazon Books then a Buy This Book link appears. If you do choose to buy the book, the site gets a very small commission which helps to pay site costs...a win win...enjoy
