  1. I didn't ask Lee whether any incidents happened at Narromine. The important point was that John McCormick wasn't there and his decision had nothing to do with any incidents there. I thought people would like that cleared up. There were CTA incursions elsewhere which did have a bearing on the outcome and that is disappointing, but it isn't all-round bad flying by RAA pilots. I also said that I personally saw very little to concern me at Narromine. That's not to say I didn't miss some.
  2. I can't reliably recollect, but my impression was that it was mainly deliberate breaches.
  3. I spoke to Lee Ungermann about this subject tonight, and he said it was OK to pass on the following information. It was stated early in this thread that the major factor behind John McCormick's suddenly negative view of the proposal to allow a CTA endorsement for RAA pilots was a result of some horrible things he viewed at Narromine. Lee states that this is not true, and that John wasn't even at Narromine. While there are a number of reasons behind the decision (and RAAus are working hard on these), one of the major factors was indeed the action of some RAAus pilots. There were a number of CTA incursions and subsequent "please explains" from CASA at a particularly bad time in the process. The CTA endorsement is not dead, but it's recovery and release from intensive care would be greatly aided by all RAAus pilots striving to do the right thing. Our safety record is looking fantastic now. Our compliance record should now follow. Cheers, Ross PS - I was at Narromine for 3 days and I only saw one dodgy bit of airmanship - and that was more bad decision making than willful disregard for rules. Well - 2 if you count the Cirrus taking off into the storm, but I think it was BrentC who explained the decision process there, and it wasn't all bad. There was some idiot eating breakfast off his engine cowling, but that was more poor planning.
  4. Oops. My contract guy. I had just been paid when typing and my brain crossed. Sorry Andy.
  5. The one I described and use gives you all that (ATC freqs if you care to enter them as info points) for $350 - with the added bonus that the map you see on the screen is the same as the one that's in your lap.
  6. Not sure what your point is Turbs. There will always be people like that. Is your point that they shouldn't have been given the ammunition (alleged circuits by RAA in 1k vis)? I'd agree that in an ideal world, all RAA attendees at Narromine should be perfect, but that's never going to happen. There are those who make bad decisions (all of us at least once), and those who wilfully disobey rules on both sides of "the fence that shouldn't exist". I note he said that the other bad stuff was trumped by the Cirrus (which can't be RAA registered). Do you think he was talking about this site? Where all we do is whinge and moan, spread rumours, defame others and ban anyone with a brain. It takes a lot to get banned from here. Having a brain doesn't come into it. There's a couple of people still here with a brain, so nyah, nyah, nyah to that argument (best I could come up with - being brainless and all). I also don't recall much whinging going on here. I'm with Brett. I ignore 95% of what goes on on pprune - I rarely even visit and don't have a login.
  7. Reminder for those in the Canberra area and interested. This is tonight. I have just confirmed that it is still happening.
  8. How about I moderate the whole thread to within a slartihalfinch of it's life? qwerty - ahlocks used that one in a tasteful way, but you had to go and spell it out didn't you? As I recall, it was a cool morning, but still my jab engine did starticoldfast.
  9. Next time I have the cowl off Simon. I don't remember. I'll also search around the web - it might jump out at me. And you're welcome. (I didn't really start a sentence with "And" - there's a silent intro)
  10. Good stuff Tony. The Moagu page mentions another utility you'll need for the Oregon - BMaP2MP. Using them it looks like it might be possible. I have calibrated maps using Ozi, but find it better to buy them from Maptrax - although it's not too hard. I think AJ said he had some maps already. As Tony said - there's always more than one way to skin a Cheetah (didn't you Tony?).
  11. I found where it says they are supported, but that is referring to waypoints and routes only - you've already found that works. It also supports connecting the GPS to your PC and letting Ozi use the GPS - but you will need to take the PC with you. Go another $150 - $250 and buy a 4.3" up to 7" GPS from eBay. It won't be a waste then, and you'll have a better GPS for flying.
  12. OK. Looking at the manual here, the unit only supports Garmin Mapsource maps. There's a list of maps you can buy here. Once you have bought and loaded a Mapsource map, you select them from the menu. Tools -> Settings -> Map -> Map Info OziExplorer cannot export maps to a Garmin device. It appears you can get the Garmin to output GPS info via PVT to another device running OziExplorerCE. Your waypoints and routes work because you export the NMEA data to the Garmin. Cheers, Ross
  13. That's why I want to know the model. Some of them (road units) run Windows CE, but it's hidden and locked to their software on top. The answer is very likely to be that though. You don't have OziExplorerCE loaded, and can't because you don't have Windows CE running or accessible.
  14. Sorry Maj - couldn't get to the computer last night. I have the manual, but it's for the Northstar F210. Actually - it looks like the D210 above. Is this going to be close enough?
  15. Probably. What's the Garmin model - so I can look it up. If probably came with software which doesn't support the map formats Ozi uses. Yet you said you can send waypoints and routes from the PC to the GPS, so I'm confused. The model and the name of the software would help. Also, is it a dedicated aircraft unit, a dedicated car unit, or something else?
  16. Basic question first. Are you running OziExplorerCE on the Garmin?
  17. I didn't know when the power was going to be restored and I could get some fuel, so it was slartieatfast. I realised after I was airborne that in my haste I left the plate there too. Sorry to whoever had to pick it up.
  18. Wow. Acknowledgement. It was more in response to Escadrille. He asked for suggestions. It alleviates the need for the old "hair dryer in the cowl" trick. I once melted the cowl on a borrowed Jab with that trick when the hair dryer slipped while I was doing something else.
  19. How could we be so blind? :lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8::lol 8:
  20. If you're only flying VFR, do yourself a favour and read this thread. You could save thousands.
  21. As I have said many times (and not had it ackowledged once), my cold starting problems were solved by installing a quality (expensive) German solenoid. It now starts first go even when it's -5C. My theory (supported by measurements) is that more current gets to the starter and is available to the ignition because there's less leak to earth.
  22. Oh Yeah. Thanks Philthy. This month is up and away. When posting, don't forget that you will need to have a higher resolution version of your entry available to provide to Angela for publication in the Pacific Flyer magazine when you win. She has created a special feature section in the mag for our photos, so it's important to support her with worthy entries. Get your entries in, and good luck
  23. CAO 95.55 says "the aeroplane has 1 propeller, 1 engine and a maximum of 2 seats" a few times. No problem, you can get around that by carrying a propellor as luggage. Unfortunately, CAO 101.55 says it only applies to "a single engine propeller driven aeroplane". So, unless you can argue that an impellor is close enough to a propellor, it would appear to be excluded.
  24. I can copy mine for you tonight Maj. No time now.
  25. The Jabiru Propellor manual has some good info too Pete.
