  1. I went to their warehouse in Lilydale on Wednesday to buy a carb socket. There were 3 people working there.
  2. I don't understand how you can't accept the pic is the person in the aircraft on their own no matter what stage of training. It can't be anything else.
  3. I started this thread purely to outline who is subject to being slugged with the insurance excess. As I have been told by my Aero club. Raaus insurance broker and raaus , technically the pic is responsible no matter if they have gained RPC or not. It is up to the school or club to pursue them for the excess in the event of a claim. I also know this to be true because it happened last week to someone I know.
  4. I am talking about solo training. The student is pic because the instructor is not in the AC. Regarding your comments above wouldn't that be a police matter as well. Theft of the aircraft, especially the one that crashed.
  5. could be . the aerial lead runs parallel to a harness for about a foot. it might be the engine harness.
  6. mine is a microair danny. for some reason i thought it was an mgl. it works fine but it makes the tacho needle go haywire when i transmit.
  7. thanks, thats what i understood it to be.
  8. what i said about pic. once the instructor sends you up solo you (the student) becomes pic. is that right. because there is no one else in the ac.
  9. must have been. i had in my head it was an mgl for some reason. getting sillier as i get older.
  10. i had a look today. my radio is a microair not mgl. seems to work fine even though it makes the tacho needle jump when i transmit.
  11. i just can't see how a pair of epoxy floats can be more than a few dollars each. these prices are crazy.
  12. i would like to know from you and nev. both instructors. is my last comment correct about solo flights.
  13. Knowing what I know now - As, an ab initio pilot (student), I would be very leery about a flight school/Instructor, who sought to abdicate their to keep me safe at all times, within the context of flight training (As I understand it the risks for a pilot at this stage are very low. ..................................................... Would you not agree that when the instructor deems you competent to solo and gets out of the aircraft he is shifting the responsibility of your safety to you because as the only person in the AC you become pic. An instructor can only do so much from the ground with a handheld. It is up to you to complete the flight in safe manner.
  14. red what i was unsure about was whether the raa members third party covered aircraft that are not your own. because it could be considered third party if you don't own it.
  15. this is what skippy can't get past. the student is pic on his own. also the last 2 hours of rpc are called un supervised solo, practice exiting and entering circuits.
  16. a. i said nothing like that. b.correct. had to pay insurance excess. . the topic is insurance excess and who pays.
  17. if the student is flying solo they certainly do pay the excess. i know of 2 that have. and the raa insurance broker told me this is correct.
  18. excellent . thats great , i thought freight might have been a problem with the war going on.
  19. sand flies are evil here on the gippsland coast. horrible things
  20. Thanks to everyone who has replied this topic. It is something that can effect every student but never gets much thought . I know I never gave it a thought until now.
  21. Point 1. I have been told the instructor definitely is liable for the excess if he is pic. I doubt any school would ask for it though. Instructors are hard to get. Point 2. Is pretty much what I have learnt. Point 3. There is no 3rd party cover for raa aircraft. The member liability policy is for the member and not aircraft. Although that may be what you are saying. Raa members have 3rd party in any raa registered ac. Point 4 . Correct. Same as hiring any vehicle or equipment.
  22. Read the post and you might understand.
  23. now let's uncross the wires. i rang all the correct people to make sure i understood where a student pilot stands because it never gets a mention. 1. the instructor is always pic if in the aircraft. that makes him responsible for the insurance excess if there is a mishap. 2. as soon as the instructor gets out and the student becomes pic then student is responsible for insurance excess. 3. of course the flight school must have insurance , that is not in question. this is all about who pays excess. 4. i think flying schools with huge excess should be made to tell the students before they fly.
  24. You are completely misunderstanding what I said. I am busy ATM. Will explain what I am talking about after.
