1. I think you might have sold me on that one Kev :) Like I say I have really no experience at all with paint and fabric. Mostly but I really couldn't see how you could sand back the glossier paint for a repair job and not damage or weaken the rib stitching for instance.Oh well at the end of the day Aeropup's are not really a show plane so looks like the poly tone for me .
2. yes the manual does say about being very careful not to go overboard with the paint ,it is mentioned in nice big bold writing in one spot, most of the planes I have seen so far have been done in poly-tone so it stands to reason that that is the easiest way to go ,,but those nice glossy and shiny finish I've seen on the one and only aero-thane painted plane did look sweet.
3. I was just wondering from people that have had a bit to do with fabric aircraft about what type of paint they prefer to use on the poly fibre stits fabric system. I cant decide if I want to go the standard Poly-tone paint that is easy to repair and touch up if i do damage something,or the Aero-thane paint that has a nice high gloss finish but is harder to work with and not so easy to touch up or repair the fabric. Having absolutely no experience with fabic at all I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm just about to order all the stuff for the covering job and would like to get the paint at the same time. Thanks
4. I'm afraid to say but i think about 50% of our local club members were I am will love this article. Sad really as the club is now expanding and will do so more now that there is a RAA school at our field. The CFI for RAA up here has flown and instructed in GA for yrs but still you hear the noise that RAA pilots are not up to scratch. With all the traffic we have up here including RPT's , rest assured he wouldn't let anyone loose without the required skills. Perhaps when some of the members start flying with us mere RAA pilots perhaps we can slowly change the attitudes. RAA wont be disappearing and change sometimes is hard for people that have only known one way there entire flying life.
5. I just looked into it recently , besides the absolute nightmare of trying to get it into the country, the cost of around $10 000 all up inc freight or just a fraction under for the 1350 softpack I don't think it is worth it for me. Where I fly I have farm land basically as far as the eye can see and I seriously doubt the plane I'm making will break up in flight. I must thank C+H freight as they went the extra mile finding out about importing one of these for me and were pretty good about it all. BRS don't give a stuff about a single sale in Oz so will do nothing to help you solve the freight issue.
6. Hey Tomo,, that brings back some memory's ,,, aero towing ,,,ground towing ,,, waiting around ,, but all worth it ,,real flying ,,and hard yakka waiting for right conditions,, -Brett
7. Just a thanks note to Ross for helping me out as well ,,,much appreciated
8. Not jabiru related but similar,, the old VW motors (type 3 case) used to use 10 mm bolts and as the motor heated up unevenly they used to pull the threads out of the case, as the bolts had no give in them ,, installing case savers (they call them) basically just an 8mm helicoil and using 8mm studs ,they tended to stretch more and alas didn't have a problem again.. this is the comon practice now basically on any vw conversion I've seen. I wonder if a similar thing may fix this issue with the jab motor.
9. Seems a bit like however that bloke only just managed to squeeze in there
10. thanks guys ,,,will see how I go :)
11. I was just wondering if anyone has tried to import, buy, get a quote for a chute from one or any of the 3 suppliers of them?? I'm keen to get one one the way I have emailed them all so far and not one response.. Has been quite a while as well,,Have emailed twice and rang once our AU dealer for the GRS with about the same result.
12. Perhaps to help out with the CofG with 4 people on board ,,one of those big 8cyl Jab motors :)

Hks

there is a turbo version now I think I read about somewhere,,
14. Depth of my pockets made my decision,,, can see anything wrong with air cooled engines in my location and the rotax water cooled system seem quite compact and will fit in pretty small cowling ,comes down to what you feel more comfortable with I suppose ,,, If I had the cash however I'd have a 100 hp rotax in what I'm building.
15. Thanks for the replies guys,,, however I have been thinking ,at the end of the day why do I want my passenger to have a throttle anyway? think I will just run the center stick as normal and throttle on the left,,seems most comfy when I fly that way anyhow so why make it more technical than I need to I suppose...
16. I reakon let her choose where she wants to go on hols,,,after all she let you do your flying courses ,,, happy Wife,,, in the good books = more flying long term
17. they look like nice recreational flying headsets  btw well done
18. I was just wondering on what most people do if they want to run dual throttles on both ends of the instrument panel,,, the only thing I can find on the aircraft spruce site seems to be those "TRIKESLIDE DUAL THROTTLE MIXERS" .... do builders just usually run 1 throttle ?

guys I was just wondering what your thoughts are about the dihedral,,,, I have set my wings up on props and are just about to drill the wing mount holes ,,,so far I have set it up at 1 , 1.5 , 1.75 and 2 degrees ,,, 2 degrees looks like a heck of a lot however , ,, what would be the lowest setting would anyone know so the flap levers (placed underneath) will clear the fuse? to get the angle I have string lined the wings at 10 foot and taken measurements from another string line from the root ribs,,, any thoughts on this method or is there a better way? Btw yes the plane is in my house ,,,need to drill these holes so I can put it back in the shed but the shed ain't quite big enough too do this important bit and I could never leave my baby out in the cold with no shelter for all this time hehe. in this photo the wings are set at 1.5
20. my insurance company said no worries at all,,,they didn't care what was in the shed or that it was a kit plane being built ,,,, I up'd the contents insurance on my shed and all good.( I hope) i_dunno
21. if you can load shonky maps ,,another similar one is tracks for australia (tracks4australia),,,i load them both on and gives a really good detail out in the country,,, T4A is only supported on garmin units like im guessing shonky is...
22. isn't it more the petrol behind the fence issue that some airfields have ? stored in containers
23. After the kit price and engine I have given up keeping track,,,basically I just don't want to know ,,,I have chosen to build one so I'm not going to stop till it's finished.. If I new what it really cost I would not be building I expect but once it is done I will be so stoked.
24. Would be good to know what you think after you try it ,,,I however whimped out and bought an icom a210 ,,,, long and heavy but everyone seems to love them
