wonder if there is a trick to getting those cheap ebay pedals going in flight sim x ? Have just received some in the mail yesterday and have spent hours so far trying to get them to work with the joystick in a combo effort,,,anyway keep trying I will

As yet I have not built my engine. I think I will wait till the airframe is complete before I will build and assemble it so I can reduce the risk of corrosion with it sitting in my shed. I guess as for extras ,like any other motor depends on the airframe. aeroconversions web site has the layout of what is supplied ,,as for what it will cost depends on the exchange rate ,,with it dropping who knows with the gst and tarrifs the port will hit you with. A direct drive air cooled motor like this is a little limited as to what you can put it into ,, they say after the new mods the motor can swing a larger prop with less pitch but I guess time will tell as ppl try them out on slower flying airframes. good luck with what ever you chose to to do.
  3. * electric hurricane 550 heli * mini katana * harmon rocket 3 * 40 size sukhoi with some unknown electric conversion that is an absolute bullet and a handful to match. * a horrible 3 channel glider (dust collector) * century hawk heli with a 46 conversion Plus many many many more that are now in my memory only after some horrible moment

I was just wondering guy's did your flap and aileron assemblies come out as a nice clean straight finish all over ? seems mine ended up a tad,,,,,, yeah.. Its not like it is all over the show but it wasn't exactly how i envisioned the end result. I was also wondering if anyone may have a nice collection of build photos I might be able to get a copy of on cd or something ? The drawings are ok in the manual but nothing seems to compare better than a good picture,,,, cheers...
  5. I'm only young 34 but I'm figuring they worked for it ,,when I'm grey I reakon I'll have one too

nope but Lew mentioned it to me the other day while i was on the phone ,,,he just said he uses a deburring tool of some sort and didnt think to ask what one ..

hey guys,,, just butting in here but was wondering what did you use to debur the inside of the wing spars tubing?
  8. that first pic of the engine ozzie looks almost like 4 Honda cr 500 barrels on some sort of vee block,,, quite compact ,,, would love to see that in action somewhere .
  9. Love your post about the engine testing helmut ,, I once had a good chat to the people that were testing the EF-EL ford motors before they came onto production yrs ago (pity they didnt check the head gaskets better :) and couldnt agree more about the rigorous testing and abuse they get on the dyno ,, only thing about car engine though is most have cast iron blocks ,,, bit of a problem with weight i'd imagine . I'd however love to put a big $$$$ bet on for say a rotax 912 and a late model toyota collora engine alloy block ,,same dyno ,same testing , wonder wich one would win ??? I know who i'd put my money on ..
  10. Great news ,,,when do you expect to get started on the build ,, Have you decided to go with the jab motor ?
  11. I took the plunge and bought one ,,,I have not installed it into an airframe yet however from what arrived in the kit it seems to be off good quality and from reports on the aerovee forum quite reasonable life spans are obtained from them.
  12. no idea but I bet they are priced accordingly to what the manufacturer will think the market will pay.

From what I can gather from their web site they make them out of wood, carbon and metal but I was thinking wood when I posted that last message. http://www.sensenichprop.com/sen_html/propeller/jabiru-adv-4.pdf ,, this was just a bit of a chart about what props they have supplied for the jab motor on different airframes. Worth a read I thought.

Ducky do you thing perhaps something like a 54 x 44 prop from Sensenich may give better performance in cruise????
  15. Nice one Bigglesworth ,, I think however the pump is only going to get bigger as well
  16. I think what I mostly like about the aeropower is the way the manufacturer modifies the block so that he puts a thrust bearing up at the front of the crank so the thrust from the prop isn't pulled all the way through the crank to the last main bearing where the normally positioned thrust bearing is .. Other vw conversions aparantly don't think this is much of a problem but it seems like a smart idea if you ask me .... there are a fair few more popular vw engines out there as well ,, I have just bought an aerovee so will see how that pans out when I get my plane finished and flying.

Well the wings are going ok and have also just received the engine from Sonex. Came in a nice packed box with excellent instructions and a really good dvd. All I need now is a fuselage kit to bolt the motor onto and life will be sweet ;)
  18. I'm due to pick up my aerovee engine next week ,,,Cost me $370 for freight of 3 reasonable sized boxes ,,$67 for some no idea tax and $970 for gst ,,,(love that one ) I'm going to pick it up from the port so no big deal there ,I just have an address and a date to get it .Sonex organised all freight and paperwork. All I have to do is pay those costs and pick it up.
  19. my april edition also failed to arrive

well I hadn't really thought about it to be honest. I just figured I'd have to start with the wing ribs like you guys did....

Great to hear you have it flying  How did you find the plane for cruise speed Steve? Would be nice to hear from curandero about how his retesting went ,,,,,,

not me, but I do have an aerovee coming in the next week or two via airmail. Would be interested to hear what you think about the motor after you have flown your new plane a few times :)
