  1. Glad to hear. The wings don't look too bad, as the tension is obviously right when you can close the top velcro! Are the battens delicate or fairly unlikely to be broken. Any idea why Wayne used a soldering iron to cut some holes and a blowtorch-heated spike for others?
  2. Have watched them a few times now. I could be easily mistaken, but is doesnt appear to be the diabolical job I imagined?
  3. Hi Kingy. Glad to hear of another Rans fan- am going to dust off a mate's S14 tomorrow for a lap - love it!! What engine have you got?
  4. Fantastic - will go and look it up!
  5. Um, you mean 'the government' is applying to bikers... You do realise that the legislation applies only to 'declared' criminal motorcycle gangs, not just 'bikers'?? Anyway, obviously a sore point, so I won't interfere with any more 'fact'!
  6. Fair enough, that is three officers out of eleven thousand, so I suppose your probably right, the other 10,997 are probably all dodgy too. How many other govt departments are the subject of tax payer-funded stuff ups again?
  7. Sounding pretty narrow minded there....Not sure that bikie related issues represent quite as as much QPS business as you are making out. As for 'arguing with the QPS answering machine an hour later...', pretty sure that's when you ring triple zero?
  8. So, has anyone fittd any of Emah's new drifter skins lately and how did it go? Thankfully should be right for a while on my a/c, but would love to see it done if anyone is re-skinning sometime!
  9. Yeah, thats what bothers me - a bit draggy given the 55kts I have heard of with a 618... Not many other options though. Can't complain with what I have to go on with though!
  10. G'day all. Just curious as to whether there are any x-air standard's around SE Qld, as I would like to eye-ball one in the flesh to see what they're all about, Despite the daily enjoyment I have been getting out of my gorgeous Drifter lately, only one of my boys is happy to strap in, prompting me to wonder about similarly priced, enclosed a/c. So before I throw up the for sale / for trade sign, I would be interested to hear some real world performance figures, if anyone knows. I am assumng most are 582 powered. Nonetheless, I should mention that if anyone is after one of the most immaculate and factory original A503's around (not to mention the ultra-low hours), then perhaps give me a yell, as I could well be persuaded...!
  11. Very nice. Always fascinated by the LW- keep the photos coming you lot!
  12. Just read the fact sheet and interpreted it to say that as an RAA certificate holder, I could obtain an RPL with class 2 medical and therefore be able to fly a V h reg aircraft with more than one passenger. Further, I can also exercise the privileges of my RAA xcountry endorsement, thus no remain in the GFPT restricted radius. If that is the case, with a controlled airspace endorsement, then what is the difference between an RPL with CTA and XC and a PPl??
  13. Interesting thought- wondered the same today. I would think there would be a possibility of a 'yes', given that I believe the licences are recognised ona reciprocal basis. I know you can fly over there on an RAA license after payment of a cheap fee and some forms to obtain the NZ equivalent, or at least that used to be the case.
  14. Thank Geoff- prob a good idea actually. HITC- thanks fir ghe detail- I really did get the impression that they werent vital! Annoying for that reason, as I could ignore it, but the half which is floating around is probably the more concerning part, just in case it rubs something. Glad you mentioned it- I thought I was being dodgy, but thought had crossed my mind to glue the old one!! From the feel, I think (and hope) it is the harder foam, not the cheap esky type, so might be right. Given the tail comes off so easily, will take a look. Skins not that tight now, so re-rivetting should be do-able. Times like this I greatly appreciate the back-up gents, so thanks! Very consoling!!
  15. Very good point. Will try and get the stab off in the next day or so and see what how much fabric I can slide outboard without un-doing the hinge. Could get lucky, but no expectations yet! Have order fibreglass tape which I believe is what hold the foam into the frame???
  16. Hmm - happy to donate a box of CD's if need be!! Failing that - carry on!!!
  17. M61A1 - please let me know if I could perhaps get hold of that covering DVD one way or another if you dont get a chance to upload- happy to pay!
  18. M61A1 - had that exact thought, even if the inboard hinge has to be removed, but might be enough slack not to need to. Just need to track down the foam. XP- bloody ripper - I was hoping that the wires would undo and the horizontal just slips off some pins or something, given the lack of other obvious attachment points!! Awesome! Thanks again for the snaps, as it really made it easier to picture what i was dealing with. Hoping to pull out the old one(both pieces...), use as template and go again. Thankfully the broken one is the largest, which is closest to the inner seam. So tell me, if there are foam formers in the tail, then the wings have bent tubing battens I am guessing? Thanks again men, seriously!
  19. Thanks heaps gents - really good stuff. The largest one on the starboard side has dead set broken in the centre, much to my annoyance. How does the horiz stab attach? I was hoping to get it all apart while leaving skins all intact and simply inserting what was needed into the inboard end of the horiz stab. Not looking so likely now. I alway DID want ceconite tail feathers....
  20. Hi all. Looks like I need to replace a batten/rib (or whatever the correct term is) in my horizontal stab on my drifter. Can anyone advise as to the best place to obtain battens? I see Krystal and Lauren have batten tips left over at Spectrum, but waiting to hear about the battens themselves. Also love to see the inside of a some tail feathers if anyone has any snaps handy - I really have no idea what I am looking at or how they go together - and yeah, I know I'm about to find out!!!
  21. Airport fees are also a killer in terms of viability, from what I have recently been told. Ask qantaslink what the like of the Roma airport are charging them per passenger compared to other airports. From what I understand, additionl/excessive fees such as these are impacting greatly on the ability of the airlines, in some instances, to offer competitive fares.
