  1. You don't buy a licence you learn a skill, that comes with variables in aptitude. I don't think RS has missed anything at all. As the saying goes you can teach a monkey to fly an aeroplane but you can't teach a $&@%head.
  2. Go back to multicom like it was beforehand.
  3. I found it a good read, big plans that hopefully work out for them. It certainly is a bit larger than Cowra.
  4. We have a massive safety department at work and the have also come up with such wonderful ideas as wrapping ourselves in loose, flammable material around the running aircraft. RS, I never could understand why instructors were always late and seemed to think that was ok? You would see a gaggle sitting at the local subway/ Mc Jacks etc and then they turn up late...
  5. Im 1500nm from Sydney and Centre is always busy. Not sure what TSO equipment has to do with air traffic control and ADSB still relies on VHF but to reverse the role there why should I as an RPT AC in CTA be put in a situation where we start relying on a safety net to ensure separation so a C1XX can make his 5th call in an empty circuit? There wasn't anything wrong to fix with this rule.
  6. Everyone in the area can tho Ian. Gets rather annoying waiting for a taxi/traffic/departure etc and having centre stepped on. No fault of anyone but annoying
  7. Flying low level or a circling approach I'll obviously fly closer but there is a limit to how close as you still have a 180 degree turn from downwind to final and I'm not wanting to use any "extreme" AOB. Aircraft speed becomes a factor as well depending on the aircraft.
  8. What you read in the AIP is what to use at class D (real) aerodromes. What you hear around the local hangars seems to be fairly accurate for "metro" D. Personally I stick to the AIP at both, if they want me to something different, they are welcome to ask.
  9. It was more a certification requirement Frank than a flight planning performance requirement, it defined which cat th AC could be registered and maintained. I'll see if I can find it. These days as far as I'm aware the only requirement is CAR178 which covers minimum height to be flown (LSALT) nothing specific about maintaining one one, that's left up to common sense. With the old reg Frank were you able to drift down to a lower lower safe if it was available? Cheers.
  10. It's a pretty small window of time that makes me nervous. Once cleaned up with a bit of height should be able to manage a landing. A mate of mine had a failure in a PA-31 at MTOW or close to, was in the northern parts of the country and he only managed a few hundred feet but it was enough for a successful landing. From memory there is a difference for charter/RPT CAT AC here with them having to be able to maintain height in ISA at 5000' And private AWK only having to have a positive rate of climb on one?
  11. That's sad to hear. This is one of many photos I took of it before it was test flown after rebuild.
  12. Is that the one that was hangared in Darwin for a bit?
  13. I would suggest that would be against CAR 206.
  14. CAR 2 (definition of a private operation) and CAR 206 (commercial operation) are you "go to regs" for these questions. Lot of old wives tales get out regarding private ops. Basically what has been said here is correct, equal cost sharing ( I would be leaving out anything apart from a direct cost ie fuel, airways, maintenance) don't advertise and most importantly not available to persons generally. You can unnecessarily create grey areas if you venture to far from the above
  15. Not enough airspeed generally? I was of the understanding that cowl flaps were more to limit over cooling and cooling drag in higher speed flight than allow more at low speeds.
  16. Oh please don't mistake my post as trust in the regulator! It isn't even slightly that. Trust in the medical profession to adhere to their ethics on doctor patient confidentiality? Well that probably the only hope. Sorry for the thread drift.
  17. I followed that up a little Ian through a friend who's works in medicine and as far as I can tell they don't get access to much if anything. The database at the moment is an opt in system, which will one day become an opt out system. To which I've already opted out with a fairly simple phone call. If there is any other record system they have access to then they certainly are being sneaky.
  18. PITA...
  19. Jay is correct regarding what will be acceptable to employers. RA time isn't regarded well by most CP's for charter anyway, can't comment in Instruction. Flying a Jab has very little to do with flying a 6 seat retract at 165kn
  20. + 1 for C210 (L model or newer), if you can fly a C210, you can fly a C206.
  21. That's for FDE tho, wouldn't have any effect on enroute or lower requirement approach.
  22. Not sure if it fits but a I have a couple of 196 if you were interested.
  23. Calculates your TAS then uses ground speed and drift to work out the vector.
  24. Good work, they're a decent headset. The app only works with newer Zulu 2's and the pfx's as far as I'm aware. My Zulu 2 I had weren't compatible.
  25. Tried to get you a link but not sure how from the app. If you search the group or maybe someone else knows how too.
