Passengers warned of lithium battery safety risk
Owi replied to Admin's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Thanks, Ian. I got that bulletin too. It's intriguing that such a small, commonly available device could be so dangerous. Have to agree with the steps though. In a similar vein, I never leave any battery chargers running if I'm not going to be at home. The potential for disaster is just too great. Remember the poor fella with the Dell laptop? -
TV program alert - "World's Most Extreme Airports"
Owi replied to Owi's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Well, I enjoyed it. Even though the voice that stated the airport names sounded like Russell Crowe with a sore throat . I'd love to try some of those approaches. -
Channel 7, Mondays, 19h30. From the ads, looks pretty exciting - even if it isn't RA!

Looks good. I have a feeling its for NA market only though. I wonder if "our boys" at OzRunways inspired that a little?

Well, all a CFI has to do is invite a journo to a TIF (free of charge, of course) and give him/her the works. Is that so hard?

Did my PPL flight test today and....

Congrats, mate. Way to go. -
Oh, no. That's terrible. My condolences go to their families.

I'd wager a soft/grass field landing and he hit a dip or rise in the ground.

Agree with both recommendations above. I have both and they are easily my favourites to fly in my FSX setup. Can't wait to get hold of a proper Jabiru one, tho'.
-
Will be ordering mine soon as I get home. Cheers guys.

what happens when you dont do your take off performance checks.

Definitely a big brown stain on that/those seat/s now. -
Nice pics, mate. Pity the wings are in the way of a better view Obviously, the Foxbat would've been a better plane for taking pics of that kind of scenery.

Done. Man, I really dislike these people who have no regard for others rights to have a healthy outdoor activity. What do they want, bored people creating havoc in other ways (leading to vandalism, hooliganism, etc)?
-
What a nutcase, that pilot.
-
I've been playing with it for the last hour. Can't get enough! Good stuff! Can't wait to try it in flight. Goodonya, guys.

I've done a bit of research on it and I'm confused now. The gizmodo page talks about a Caspian Airlines airliner which was operated by the military and in which seven people were killed. But the research I find on wikipedia "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspian_Airlines_Flight_7908" says that it was a civilian airliner and 168 people were killed. Details of the cause are sketchy but they mention bird strikes, the tail was on fire, etc... Still, it doesn't detract from the horror of that video.

Gosh! That's awful. Was it shot down? Was there any sort of Airline Crash Investigation into this one?
-
Hey, what a great idea. Why not follow Serge's exploits. We may learn something. After all, many of the world's best aircraft were made in Russia. Thanks, DP, for being the intermediary.

Martin Jet Pack finally found a "test" pilot
Owi replied to fly_tornado's topic in Aviation Laughter
Surely it didn't require a mannequin to test the flight? Unless they thought it would blow up mid-air. The landing looked soft enough to me. -
Wow! That letter to Mr Cameron actually makes sense. But pollies don't want to listen to reason do they?

That is not quite true since in that case the files are locally stored. A retrieval system would be what AirServices already has in place for us - a means of retrieving (downloading) the files to a local storage area. What this rule is supposed to prevent is other people putting these files up for download from an alternate server. This, I imagine, is a means of controlling the distribution rights of the files, much like in that you can only get official i-Device Apps from Apple's own servers. They are, after all, copyright of AirServices Australia. Also not quite. I don't know about the "commercial person's" situation but the fact is the files are available for download as .PDF. If AirServices didn't want us to download them, then they would've published them in a different, non-downloadable format. Cheers all.

Oh, golly! It seems that these fellahs are clinging to the 20th century like their jobs depended on it. I'm surprised we moved beyond the sextant the way things are at the moment.

First Solo = Everyone gets a turn - Today its mine
Owi replied to Piet Fil's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
Well done, mate! Good to hear of a fellow aviators positive progress. Cheers. -
This is a great thread. I feel uncomfortably gratified that this problem affects even those with good hearing. Being hard of hearing, it is especially important to me that people transmit audibly and legibly when making their calls. One gets quite fatigued by trying to listen to incomprehensible calls and the danger is that we stop trying after a while. I spent a lot of money on a decent headset to try and compensate for my lack of hearing, but the investment is being thwarted by poorly spoken calls. It's almost as if the person isn't interested in making sure they are understood. Cheers all,

Mate, Don't hesitate! Go to the RA-Aus website or pick up a copy of the latest RA Mag, find your nearest RA-Aus registered flying training facility or club and just go for a TIF and take it from there. All that's needed is a desire to learn and have fun flying. Since you have a GFPT cert already, you'll take to it like an eagle to the sky (can't say "duck to water" here). I did this just over a year ago and haven't looked back since. RA rules!
