  1. Merv, Glad to hear you are OK. Thanks for that story. On the bright side of things, at least you are able to walk and talk about it, and you now have a taildragger conversion... Ben
  2. None of my cars can use ethanol - at any concentration. I double checked with the manufacturers books. If the design engineers say no, Then thats good enough for me. So for me its not a political decision. Rather one of mechanical stability. Besides, since when can you trust a politician? So I just head on past and use BeePee Ultimate. I get an average of 60km extra in the 230E per tank. Ben
  3. Some folks, now deceased, found that a power pole search at 50ft was the perfect way to find power lines. It was easy because they filled the windscreen..... :yuk: Ben
  4. Good stuff. If the PMO is the bloke I'm thinking of, he really is a nice guy and will get to the bottom of the matter and have things sorted. Ben
  5. I honestly think this incident needs to be reported formally to CASA. Do it in writing with a copy to RAA. This guy may be a contractor hired to do the job, but he still has to abide by the regulations. mailto:[email protected] Ben Phone 131 757 (local call cost within Australia) Mail GPO Box 2005 Canberra ACT 2601 CASA Corporate Headquarters 16 Furzer Street Phillip ACT 2606 CASA Operations Headquarters 12 - 14 The Circuit Brisbane Airport, Qld 4007 CASA confidential hotline 1800 074 737 If somebody is putting safety at risk - report it!
  6. Not so long ago, I was on takeoff on Runway 36 at Shepparton, and happily on climb and was about to raise the flaps, when I looked to my right, and there was a Seneca coming towards me, but slightly above. I had a really good look at the underside of that plane, and a really good look at the crud on the underside of the engine nacelles. I could not see the crew. I was at 500AGL when we were at the closest, and there was about 100ft vertical separation. Ben
  7. Done using the above technique. If I decided to recut it now, the only change I would make is in post production to reduce the bass and rumble. Vision wise, it was shot 16:9 widescreen, but YT was having "issues" at the time with widescreen stock. HTH Ben
  8. To make things really realy easy and cheap; 1x set spare headset 1x lapel clip mic with 3.5mm plug 20cm gaffer tape. Place lapel mic inside ear cup of spare headset. Gaffer tape both earcups together mount camera as desired Plug mic into aux socket on camera (3.5mm plug) plug headset into spare intercom sockets. Done. Its easy, cheap and above all, it works. Ben
  9. That was amazing..... I bet they need to check the belly for a groundstrike... Ben
  10. Fly in Peace Derek. You are and always will be a bloody good mate. And thanks for the great times we had bowling, the coffees and cakes at the Beechworth Bakery, trips to the bowlo and the times you came to stay for the weekend. Ben
  11. Love-em! LongGone is a ripper..... Ben
  12. Yep... I'm baaaack.... I gave up after the last upgrade, so I decided to register back in; this time with a full stop after my name.. So.... what has been happening? Mmmmm. Just work, which has seen me busier than usual, so my flying hours have been waaaaaay down. The wonderful people at Echuca Aero Club made me an honorary social member several months ago, for which I am eternally grateful... and still stunned, really. This club is nothing short of fantastic, and has one of the biggest social aspects I have ever seen. Captain Murray's Roast lunches are now legendary, as is Barrys' Bar Service! Living under the circuit for R35 gives me a great vantage point, and the sound of the clubs radial flying team - (two Yak 52's and a Stearman) is sheer music for aviation buffs... Its nice to be back. Ben
  13. Its essentially a spy base that uses laser for its communications to the US via satellite. Now, I wonder if THAT airbus flew through the beam? :hittinghead: Ben
  14. Forgive me.. I thought this was an April Fools joke. :raise_eyebrow: Every aircraft should have a radio. If the radio fails, then use the failed radio procedures in the back of ERSA and the VFG. Ben
  15. Had four days off, so took the missus and kids to the Zoo at Dubbo. had to drive... the weather was atrocious. Apart from the gales that blew us off the map on the way up, the trip home was 8/8 cloud at 500ft AGL.... Ben
  16. I think you handled that situation well. Ben
  17. Well, at least the insurance company gets a frame by frame description of what went on... And thanks for the float plane technique tips. I never knew that!! Ben
  18. Beauty. Chocolate and coffee are not on their Hit List. Ben
  19. WARNING WARNING Sick Joke ahead.... Two altar boys were talking after mass, outside the confessional. One asks the other "What does Father Jones give for oral sex?" "A can of coke and a Mars bar" replied the other.. Ben
  20. Thats only because of the 830 practice landings you've made this year...;) Well done.. take heaps of piccies when you go, and we hope to read the full story about it! Ben
  21. Just wanted to say THANKYOU to the Echuca Club, for shouting me a wonderful lunch on Sunday... home cooked roast with all the trimmings. The entire club room was packed and so was hangar 1, which became an instant field kitchen the Army would be proud of. Top stuff, from a top club. Ben
  22. Not only that, but this question is in the BAK.... Ben
