  1. THAT is the question that Canberra airport leasees need to answer. Ben
  2. Comment submitted. Now, all we need is another 7,999 members to submit one! Ben
  3. Geez.... its like the dust storms of 1982 all over again.:yuk: I remember being stuck at the Parkes radio telescope visitors centre when a storm hit. The centre is 100m from The Dish, and you could not see it, the dust was that thick. I looked out over the car park at the height of the gales... trees were horozontal, and every car in the lot was mission brown. Ben
  4. Susan Ley is a rarity when it comes to pollies.. she speaks the truth. When she was first elected, she used her own 172 to do the rounds of her electorate, which is bloody huge.. about half the size of NSW at the time, I recall. Sharman Stone (Lib) at Shepparton is another to get in touch with, as she charters a plane to get her to and from Canberra - and she wont like being told to wait half an hour for a security nazi to escort her from the plane. Ben
  5. See.... communications does work. If you work with the jurno doing the story when it comes to mainstream media then the facts do get used. Aside from that, its great to read a good news story. Ben
  6. Just proves how well the Jab cockpit is structurally designed and built. Ben
  7. Gee, THANKS. I'll remember that when filming the next road crash. Ben No offence taken, but don't paint us all with the same stick..
  8. A guy pulls up at the lights, as its red and then CRUMP! he gets rearended by the bloke behind failing to stop. So he gets out of his car, and being somewhat vertically challenged walks to the car behind and yells loudly to the driver. "I'M NOT HAPPY!" To which the offending driver, still a bit stunned replies, "Okay, so which one are you?" Ben
  9. My wild guess is the ATSB is not that impressed with VFR pilots who decide to fly into IMC using GPS as a sole means of navigating, believing that GPS will 'save the day' and keep them 'shiny side up'. Also my wild guess they arent that impressed with VFR trained pilots deciding to go into IMC without any training - even a non current IFR ticket. And a further wild guess, is the ATSB is not that impressed about folks who rely wholy and soley on GPS, when they do need, even as VFR pilots to check position and track using NDB and VOR.. oh and map and stopwatch.. Ben
  10. Oh classic!! Ben
  11. Errrr..... beats me...... What say those delayed by their actions send them a bill for an hours running costs... If they got loads of those then they surely would rethink... okay, then again... Ben
  12. Just got this reply from Matthew Fleming, Aviation Security, office of Transport Security. The bottom line is that its the lease holder of the airport itself, NOT the dept who is responsible. Perhaps a deluge to them is the go. Also, anyone here a mamber of AOPA? ------------------------ Ben The lessee of Canberra Airport has put the measures you described in place at their own choosing. The government requires that airport operators meet stringent security standards, and many airport operators, as the owners of the infrastructure, decide to introduce measures above and beyond the minimum requirements, such as at Canberra Airport. I suggest you take this matter up with the airport operator, but I would also suggest doing so without first insulting them - you might get a better response. 13. Why not comment on the story? I did. Ben A very poorly written 'article' with little research. An excellent example of bad journalism. F minus. Now, how about a story with the facts and no bias? Don't forget to research how many people are killed each year in road trauma, drug overdoses and dare I say it; coronary disease from smoking. Regards, Ben Longden
  14. It dosent matter what you fly, or WANT to fly... so long as you have a love of flight. All pilots and crew are welcome at Shepp anytime - fly or drive in, it matters not. Ben
  15. Hi Tony, My condolences to the familes and friends concerned. I have to say I am impressed with the way you are handling this. Bloody professional, and I like the way that questions are being asked by members and everyone is avoiding speculation and blame. Top stuff. I also liked the tasteful photos. The kids could read this story, and not get nightmares, but actually learn from it. Ben
  16. Aaaaaahh.... thats my 'skewed' outlook on life....;) Such is life with a danged-wide angle... Ben
  17. Oh the joke is just brilliant.... I'm sore from laughing.... We have urology tomorrow so I might use that one!! Ben
  18. Mmmm, I guess if you are of the species Human, have two arms, two legs or any combination with or without wheelchair, crutches or any other mobility aid then you are automatically a suspect... Seriously, though, with all these ASIC inconsistencies, has anyone pointed them out in bulk form to the department, and how simply ridiculous the whole thing is? Perhaps A Current Affair might be interested in The ASIC Fiasco.. Ben
  19. It was a nice day.. Robyn was at work, and I just felt like going for a fly. So I did. Ben
  20. YIKES! I think that straight away, the boys are pricing themselves out of the marketplace. Looks like the PA-28 will have to be the ship of choice around here... Ben
  21. My thoughts; First up; My condolences to the family, relatives and mates of the pilot and to all the crew at the RVAC. Secondly; Moorabin Airport was there looooong before any housing. Thirdly; Lets give the guys from the ATSB room to move and figure out what went on. Fourthly; I still would rather fly than drive. Its a lot safer in the sky than on the roads. Ben
