  1. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. I urge everyone on this forum who is a member of ra-aus to email the board members and let them know your thoughts. One of the bm from nsw is often heard saying, "no one has complained to me". I wrote to Michael apps, but I will now write to them all. So should you all. Cazza

I will be at Ausfly cause I promised to have a Jabiru Reunion. So all jab people, jab engine people, RA-Aus people, people who breathe are welcome at the Jabiru Reunion tent even if you don't fly a jab. If you have seen a jab, you are welcome. We will be cooking snags and handing out morning tea and I have organised some forums. Stop in and say hi. Cheers, Cazza
  5. Does this mean we can use Oz Runways legally? cazza [Comment now on electronic flight bag rules Proposed new rules and guidance material on the use of electronic flight bags have been released by CASA. The proposed rules would require the holders of air operator’s certificates to introduce procedures and processes to minimise any risks associated with the use of electronic flight bags, as well as to provide ongoing support for the technology. The guidance material covers in detail the airworthiness, operational and management issues relating to electronic flight bags. This guidance material will also be very useful for private and recreational pilots who wish to use electronic flight bags. CASA has issued a notice of proposed rule making foreshadowing changes to the Civil Aviation Orders to cover electronic flight bag safety issues. Operators who want their pilots to use electronic flight bags will need to amend their operations manual to include processes and procedures covering hardware, software and data management, as well as operator training. They will also be required to complete an operational risk analysis and appoint an electronic flight bag administrator. A draft civil aviation advisory publication states electronic versions of documentation that are required by regulation are acceptable. It says: “Documents that have already been approved in accordance with the relevant regulations do not need additional approval if they have been stored in the electronic flight bag in essentially the same form as the original document”. This means electronic flight bags can be used to store and retrieve documents such as maps, charts, flight crew operations manuals, minimum equipment lists and other control documents. Under the proposed rules electronic flight bags are classified in two categories. These relate to the particular functions the electronic flight bag is intended to perform and the hardware type. The type of hardware will determine whether an airworthiness approval is required for the installation of a device in an aircraft. Read the proposed electronic flight bag rules and guidance material and comment by 14 September 2012.]
  6. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. EDMUND BURKE I have voted for representatives to take on a duty of care to ensure the organisation meets its mission statements, meets the needs of its members and functions with integrity and fairness. So I will be contacting my board members and asking them if the rumours of purported actions are true, and if they have been perpetrators and willing partners in: 1. Voting to deny natural justice to a former member; 2. Voting to stop work on the constitutional changes; 3. Sanctioning public documents that contain plans to contravene constitutional processes; 4. Sanctioning a "HIT LIST" of members to be denied the constitutional due process in place; I urge you all to ask the hard questions of the people who were voted in to look after you. We have a right to let them know how we feel and they have a right to set the record straight. Cazza
  7. This letter from the president was posted on the RA-Aus website. Absence of the President at the September 12 AGM August 29, 2012 | members Ladies and Gentlemen, Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I will not be able to attend the Sep 12 AGM being held at Heck Airfield. This is regrettable but I can assure you that I have done everything I can to get away and attend the meeting as I see it as a very important part of my appointment as President. I will continue to attempt to get there but at the moment it is not looking good. I will also be unavailable to attend the board meeting that follows the AGM or the NORRA-Aus fly-in at Monto on the weekend 29 Sep to 1 Oct 12. I fully understand that this should be an opportunity for you to question me, as President, about past or ongoing issues and for me to be given the opportunity to answer in person. However, this cannot be helped. I wish to provide you all with the opportunity to ask your questions and for me to answer them. To that end I request members e-mail me any questions or points you wish to raise and I will provide an answer that can be read out at the AGM. My e-mail address can be found on the website and I am ready to take questions immediately. I offer you all my apologies for this inconvenience but, as stated, it is beyond my control. I look forward to receiving your questions and to meeting you again sometime in the future. Kind Regards, Steve Runciman President RA-Aus
  8. Hello rec pilots, Charles Sturt University is conducting research into recreational pilot training. The research is looking at identifying good practice by instructors and will assist in getting a good picture of the recreational training scene. Pilots and instructors are asked to complete a survey. If you have 10 spare minutes, can you help with this data gathering exercise so that we have some proper information about the rec training scene? It is all explained on the website. You only need your logbook and all informtion is confidential and will only be used statistically. Dr Matthew Thomas is the researcher, some of you may have met him at natfly. He's a Jabiru pilot and a member of RA-Aus. Go to this website if you can help. Ta, cazza http://wsww01.csumain.csu.edu.au/psysurveys/mt/index.asp
  9. Jetjr, Thanks for the suggestion re Wayne johns. Will give him a ring, but have no budget so unless he plans to come anyway, I don't like our chances. I will ask the question. Carol
  10. Hello all, I have been reading your feedback on Natfly and having spent a year of my life organising the hangars, forums, equipment, encouraging people to give forums, talking to Council, Townspeople, printing programs, getting Temora aviation museum support, I must say your comments are more than discouraging. I won't be involved in organising Natfly ever again. I've done the program for 6 years. This year I had 8 hangars with forums for each hour of the day except lunchtime. Over 500 people PER HOUR were in forums. So somebody got something out of the weekend. Now, where do I get the people for forums? I ask everyone I know on this and other forums for suggestions and I implement every one that is possible. I helped to write all the copy for the magazine, for the Natfly website, for local news to try and get more people to come. I wrote to every chapter of SAAA, who had a great program in two hangars, the gyro people came in force and I made sure they had forum and workshop spots, the women's pilot association came and gave a forum, and I invited the Balloons, the Warbirds, the Antiquers as well. I also invited CASA and they decided who they would send and their forums were well attended. I also invited Airservices and they sent a rep who gave two forums. I put invitations in all the magazines for airmen that would print them. The office look after the Exhibitors, their sites, their costs and so on. I have nothing to do with that. The ops managers decide if there will be displays or not. They decided no for all displays except the aerobatics. Now, think about what you are suggesting. Paying someone to organise Natfly, means that the office will make all the decisions and people like me who put members first and foremost in the program planning will have no input. If we spend money on an event manager, then there will not be money for maintenance workshops, safety briefs throughout the year. The cost of mounting Natfly, with the office and volunteers is huge. By the way, I managed to get over 50 community volunteers through media and radio ads I did on Temora Community Radio. So is your Event manager going to do that in our local community? Living here, so many people do things because they have a personal connection with me. I never wanted money, I only wanted for Natfly to satisfy the wants and needs of our members. Last year I was given a debit card to get signs, and other things for Natfly. With the new management and Board, that was taken away (even though I kept scrupulous records of expenditure with receips and a full report to the Board) and getting access to things for Natfly became too difficult. What I am suggesting, is that paying someone to do a job will not necessarily end up with an event that you guys will enjoy. But hey, you need to spend the next few years working your tail off organising from the inside, to really understand the enornmity of the task. On the other side, SAAA have asked me to organise a Jabiru reunion for Ausfly, which I have agreed to do. So all of you Jabiru people, plan to come. I am planning morning tea for Jab people, I will have a marque for Jab flyers, some maitenance forums, and would like to hear your ideas on what we can offer Jabiruers who come. Cazza (Carol Richards)
  11. We now have a dedicated website containing information for Natfly. It is a work in progress, so as details come to hand, they are included. Check it out on: http://www.natfly.com.au Cazza

  13. Everyone, CASA has a DRAFT copy of Part 61 on their website for consultation until Feb. It contains a lot of information about the Recreational Pilot's license and conditions and requirements. Part 61 seeks to institute regulations that bring Australia into line with ICAO. Attached is part 61.055 which allows anyone to train without a license, but they must have a license to pilot an aircraft solo. (See the section on the student pilot license.). Part 61 also states a student pilot license can be obtained at 15 (a year younger than is currently the case). The FAA and the British CAA also allow training with no lower limit. CASA wants responses to this draft. So if you feel strongly one way or the other, you should make a response. If you are a member of RAA, you should also contact your Board member with your views. After all, Board members are REPRESENTATIVES. Cheers, Cazza
  14. Glenn and TAA members, What a good idea. All recreational aviators RA-Aus and TAA members are welcome to meet and have morning tea at our hangar. Glenn, if you want to nominate a time, that's fine too. We are on taxiway E and are the only hangar with a windsock. If your members are driving, they may have to walk a fair distance as the town is expecting an influx of around 10,000 enthusiasts. Cazza.
  15. Attached is the latest information for any pilots who plan to come to Temora for the Warbirds Extravaganza on Nov 19. Don't forget you are invited to hangar 38 (the only one with a windsock on the roof) for morning tea and coffee. 25. Hi RA-Aus forum enthusiasts. Just an invitation to come up taxiway echo to the hangar with the windsock if you visit Temora on Nov 19 when the big Warbirds Aviation Museum airshow is on. I'll have coffee and home made goodies available. We are expecting a big crowd, but it would be great if RA-Aus members had a chance to meet and greet. I am new to this forum because I like to keep in touch with what other members of RA-Aus think is important. I fly a Jabiru 160 and live on the Temora airpark. Stop in and say G'day if you are in the neighborhood. Cazza:smile:
