  1. I met a few like that at My Beauty couple of years back. Really makes a poor impression on visitors. However, you can't judge a place on a single impression. Visited Porepunkah years ago and was treated well. Mt Beauty was my home town.
  2. All of my jet time is likely to be Airbus or Boeing. Do like the sound of turboprop though. Don
  3. We love open air down here in winter. Character building. I remember flying from Bredbo to Bunyan gliding field and return in the Ptradactyl years ago. Nearly froze on the return flight.
  4. None of the following absolves him from criminal responsibility for the death of nearly 400 people or the enormous cost to the company of this disaster. The chief executive does not take this job in ignorance or accept the enormous financial rewards without knowing the responsibilities involved. He should be tried for willful murder.Fullstop.
  5. "Blind Freddy" can see that Aus is welded on to the US system Lock, Stock & Barrel. Fools who wont see that Morrison is the Trump disaster for Australia need re-educating. Who will perform this task? Not the excoriated ABC. No one else is on the horizon. Hold on to your hats Sheilas and Blokes, it's going to be a wild ride! Sorry, Don
  6. Just back from fighting a spot fire south of Canberra. Not an apologist for Defence but anyone who thinks that stopping a grass fire, from a helicopter, in these desperate conditions needs to get out more. Remember, there is a somewhat large fan overhead, and these grass fires spread with unbelievable rapidity in dessicated (no rain for months) conditions.
  7. Hughes Pocket Rocket?
  8. Kamaz tanks for the desert corps! Yayyy
  9. Yes Yenn, I was there as well. We picked up a Kitfox and I flew it to Gayndah on Sunday. Monday I set out for Kingaroy but after an hour the ceiling started to come down. Put it on the trailer at Murgan and drove to Forbes to learn that the DH Dragon had gone in.
  10. See my post #9 in this thread Flight (and additional training) plans for 2020. For exciting (unexpected ) encounter with hail. Apologies for the poor format, blame MS Word
  11. But she really "nailed it", right?
  12. Hint: It's not us who are calling Scotty from marketing "rotten". In the US there's extensive coverage of this disaster. Morrison is facing international humiliation. The outspoken citizens of Cobargo have been seen and heard around the world. That's not something from which Morrison can run, although he will try.He saw the cameras. That's why he claimed to have met international emissions goals
  13. Here's something that cheered me up... Bette Midler (@BetteMidler) Pity the poor #Australians, their country ablaze, and their rotten @ScottMorrisonMP saying, “This is not the time to talk about Climate Change. We have to grow our economy.” What an idiot. What good is an economy in an uninhabitable country? Lead!! (My emphasis) Nice one Bette
  14. The question that hangs in the air like a limp windsock is,"Where are the emergency assistance measures directed at the thousands of Australians with no homes?" Unlike previous disasters that I recall, there has been a void of silence. Does this government feel that demands need to rise to a shout before reluctantly opening the purse for those suffering extreme loss and anxiety.
  15. Albo was never my choice for loto. But he has been clear about the necessity for nations to stand on the side of positive action when disaster, as predicted 40 years ago, comes to the fore. This is truly the eve of destruction.
  16. Yes, Ultralight, I still love the Thruster. Wheel and gear damaged when a bolt broke on the tail spring and we hit a tyre marker on the edge of the strip. Don't use tyres at the edge of your strip.
  17. Anybody with the merest interest in political accountability could have predicted the slothful and disrespectful reaction to this national catastrophe from Scott from marketing. It may, just possibly, bring about an awakening of consciousness from the so obviously ignorant polity. I see that in every utterance, Scott (from marketing), injects his crass political jibes. He's still so far behind in providing empathy and understanding of the people's feelings of loss and despair.
  18. I once got a bit of hail from a strange, tall and skinny cloud on a warm afternoon at about 7,000ft. Took the leading edge off a wooden prop causing me to pull the power and land pronto on a very convenient ag strip.
  19. We had a little Kitfox Mk 1 and it was absolutely delightful to fly. Can get the radar on the modern flight apps.
  20. Yes Frank, we could do with any of that you don't want. Don
  21. The bit that reads, "No Iraqi's were harmed when making this video."
  22. Its called , "The big lie." Otherwise, "Drinking the Cool Aid".
  23. Twist & turn, twist & turn. Plausible deniability is the US' stock in trade.
