  1. Yeah I've always been told that its to stop the prop getting inbalanced due to moister transfer. I guess it could happen if the aircraft was left for many months without flying but probably wouldn't effect the aircraft if it was flown every couple of days/weeks.
  2. When is the flyin event? I grew up in Diggers Rest and went to school in melton so it would be a good excuss to go home!
  3. Brett how do you know there will be a shortage? We had a "huge" shortage about 1.5years ago... it lasted three months and then back to the normal excess of pilots. Its an interesting industry! Adam.
  4. The starduster is a nice plane. It has been rebuilt after the last owner (on the delivery flight from the builder it was ground looped! ouch!!) I have flown it before it got bent and was a real lot of fun! If only it had two seats it would be in my hangar tomorrow!
  5. Wasn't me on Tuesday would have been one of the other boys. The Tugs can get a bit antsy if we get to close so we try and give them a wide berth. The Van overnights at Pelican so that it can start the first flight from Newcastle first thing in the morning. I've only been with the company for a couple of years but Rob is still around doing mostly endo's now and maintenance control.
  6. If i rememeber the story correctly it was at max weight and had an engine failure thats why it ended up in the water the first time they just tried to lift it out on one and thats how it ended!
  7. Neil dunn is pretty well know aviator. It is hard to get a radial to completly give up the ghost they will pretty much run with half the engine missing! I'm sure it will all come out in the wash!
  8. It's horses for courses really. It is a guaranteed job but in saying that you are going to be there for 7 years (I think I haven't read it for a year or so now) You will also pretty much be stuck as a First Officer as you will not have the requirements to be made captain. I understand they are looking at ways around this at the moment but if you wanted to leave before you 7 years are up or before you became captain you would be starting from the bottom of the pile with all the fresh CPL's because in honesty you wouldn't have the industry experience required for a comparative job that you would have for REX. To explain that further most First Officers with REX have a minimum of 2000 hours with 500 multi engine. You as a cadet will be in there with around 250 hours. After you are in as a Cadet the time you will get is logged as CO-Pilot time not command so you only get to log half of it and you are not getting command training therefore it is looked as with less importance. You also have to put up with a lot of the current non cadet First officers and Captains looking down on you as you have jumped the line that they all had to wait in (I don't say I agree with them but trust me its there!) Not sure how helpful my post will be but I thought I might give you something else to think about. I must admit when I did my CPL I looked at cadetships and decided to do it the old fashioned way. Adam.
  9. No worries Andrew it was possibly me as it seems like I never get out of that plane at the moment! We are pretty used to getting close to other aircraft around victor one and have made in company procedure to grow eyes in the back of our heads!
  10. When I learnt the school that taught me had us taxi out on the lowest tank and then change to the full tank in the run-up bay. Now I am a little wiser I will always start on the tank that I will take off on. Why? Two reasons. 1, If you forget to change the tank and take off on one that doesn't have much if any fuel in it. 2, By running on the tank you will initially fly on you give it the most time to make sure the fuel is flowing and everything is ok. In flight if I change tank I sit and wait about 30 secounds with my hand ready to switch back the the orginal tank and the same when i switch the fuel pump off. Thats the great thing about flying you are always learning... anything that doesn't kill you makes your stronger! Adam.
  11. Out at cecil you'll be on three people screens at least. You'll be on Oakey, Amberly and Brissy so if you've got the time I'd be plugging in those numbers or at least hit ident after the mayday call
  12. You'd never have to ditch the water would be to scared and get out of your way!
  13. Awesome looking plane! Almost as ugly as a lightwing though!
  14. Amazing you've just conivinced me that I have to go to SA and have a look around! Great pics!
  15. Looks a lot like a PW 985 (450 horse power so a little bigger)
  16. Hmm its a P&W twin row radial... other than that!!!God only knows!
  17. Great review. I also bought a pair about two months ago and love them. I use the bluetooth function with my phone all the time and it works great. The only problem I have found is that some times it has a buzz in the background it has only just started doing this (About 70 hrs of flying with them) and I think I'll be sending it back to get fixed! Hopefully I got a dud pair though and its not a reoccuring problem!
  18. Wow.... thats all i have to say about that....
  19. Seabreeze if you near the coast is pretty good www.seabreeze.com.au
  20. Pretty much agree with them being wanker bars. Often when asked I will tell the pax you get a bar each time you crash that some times gets a laugh.... Airline. Two bars = secound officer Three = First officer Four = Capitan GA - General rule of thumb Two = Junior pilot/pilot under training Three = Line pilot Four = Chief Pilot or Check and training Gold or silver is usally just a company choice.
  21. Ah good old Ivan he was always good fun even when the weather turned to s**t while doing a wedding on the beach! That C150 was nice... but its still a C150!
  22. Righto if it was Wayne in his VH drifter thats all legal and I don't have a problem and as I said I don't care if you do it and kill yourself but its the people who get caught out down the line that bothers me. I do however have a problem with people who do it in aircraft that are not permitted to. I know someone here on these forums has performed aerobatics in a Jabiru and bragged about it, again its fine until in 5 years time when someone else owns the aircraft and the wing falls off due to that overstress all those years before. The rules are there for a reason stick to them people!
  23. If you know the rego of that Thruster I would be giving the RAA a call. I really couldn't care less if the bloke kills himself - thats his life but if he sells the aircraft or lets someone else fly it and it breaks up in flight with someone else at the controls thats murder.
  24. Another year older Maj??? that might just push you over the edge from being young to old! ;)
