  1. Do you also have a paper copy of the Civil Aviation Regulations and Civil Aviation Safety Regulations? Neither are of these 2 documents are provided free of charge and bounded ($245 not including p/h). You can however access them online in digital (and downloadable) form! I can't see how CASA can claim providing a digital version isn't safe.
  2. But how many RPT flights would most members need to take to get to Orange? For me it's 2, the same as Canberra. If we were going to move, (and I don't think it's really an issue being considered), it should be somewhere within 30-45 min drive from Brisbane or Sydney. Most members should be able to access transport to those hubs or be within a few hours flight in a recreational aircraft.
  3. The Wagners don't have any control over whether it becomes controlled airspace or not. The airlines would not want to mix with the light traffix. As to where else, personally I like SEQ, caboolture, redcliffe or Jacob Wells
  4. Maybe we should ask oz runways to include the ops manual and then people would be happy to use it digitally
  5. And i wonder how many pilots here actually go and update their AIP each cycle?
  6. It could be they are trying to encourage members to use the digital version. The plan was to update the Ops manual on a more regular bases with total reviews every couple of years. That's a lot of wasted printing and money just because peopler refused to get with the times.
  7. If you don't mind the cost, then go out and get it printed and made. Don't force the rest of us to bear the cost of you not being prepared to use a digital version. The money has to come from somewhere, and we don't have $200,000 to spend ($20x10,000 members).
  8. It's fair to me, we are trying to cut our expenses as an organisation, that means moving to digital form to reduce supplies and administration. Factor in the postal, administration and printing the documents and I'd be surprised if $60 even covers all that.
  9. Wellcamp would not be a suitable location for a HQ. It's purpose isn't for light and recreational aircraft, there is also a possibility of it becoming a controlled airspace/zone in the next few years, thus limiting our access anyway.
  10. You need to find out what the 3 letter abbreviation for STRATUS is and use that. More then likely you'll need to tell ATC what it is too when you call up. If you use 247357 in the plan/sartime, then tell them that's your call sign. For example, Jabiru 24-1234 would plan JAB1234, when they call up as Jabiru 1234, ATC search JAB1234 and match you with the flight plan/sartime. The limit of 7 characters isn't a function of NAIPS, it's because that's what the ATC system uses based on ICAO standard. I agree with you that there needs to be a better system, such as the UL1234 standard, however most days it's not an issue for air services so until RA-AUS gets CTA access and it's a regular thing doubt it will be looked at.
  11. I think most controllers will struggle to locate your flight plan (and SARTIME) as they wouldn't search for 247357 unless that's what you call yourself. They (controllers) search by call sign only, not by rego or aircraft type or any other details.
  12. But there is a difference between Aircraft Rego and Aircraft Callsign, our problem is not knowing the 3 letter designator for each aircraft type. I'm sure i've seen a memo or brief using the UL1234 call sign before, will need to have a search. Be interesting to see what the guys operating in controlled airspace every day use.
  13. Out of interest, what do you put as your call sign on your flight plan. I believe it only accepts up to 7 characters. I've seen plans as JAB1234 and ones with just 1234 but I think a more universal system needs to be agreed on, such as UL1234, easy to look up as there is no guessing game as to the 3 letter abbreviation of the aircraft type. Your call then could be "STRATUS Ultra Light 7357".
  14. I find it strange that any news story about aerodromes these days has some comment about Wellcamp or a quote by Wagner. Recent story about Customs delays in Perth and yet Wagner's quoted on processing international passenger arrivals...really.
  15. I don't think you can blame airservices for not being able to access above 5000ft or controlled airspace, they don't write the regulations.
  16. Does anyone have any experience with the Glasair Sportsman? Seems like a very capable aircraft besides the ugly roll cage/bars across the windscreen, but I've only been able to locate a couple of reviews and nothing really local (australian reps/website etc). While I've enjoyed flying the Jabiru, recently flew a C172 and enjoyed the more "stable" feel and larger aircraft (but not so much the price), this guy looks like a good step up from the Jabiru without the 30-40years age of the Cessna.
  17. Sounds like CAE needs to take over all the jabiru engine business and Jabiru to focus on the Aircraft side (which they do pretty well). If only it was so easy
  18. The wind quoted is an average, it could be 5knots either side of what's quoted. When max is quoted that's the highest observed. The direction is also and average, rarely do you get wind as a constant velocity.
  19. But where do you join the line? Today it's $50 discount, don't renewal, get another discount invite after 2 months, rinse and repeat. Not sure discounts are the way to improve memberships, or whether it would even be covered by our constitution. All members being equal, same vote same membership fee.
  20. Not sure where one would find a Jabiru Press Release, but they did post on Facebook which is a copy/paste/minor edit of the email RA-AUS sent out recently.
  21. You'd rather they just come out with a ruling and not let people comment or provide advice? As others have pointed out, not sure what Court case people think there will be. You can't sue (and win) CASA for making your aircraft and the public safe. You can't sue (and win money) a company that has folded and no longer exists. What we need is Jabiru and CASA to work together and come to a solution for all owners, pilots and the public on the ground.
  22. The email by RAA suggests they were not involved in this action by CASA and didn't even know about it before the rest of us, a separate issue but a worry none the less.
  23. There are more qualified people to answer, maybe give the Tech Manager a call when you get back to discuss. It couldn't be used for hire or reward, so no training and maybe moved to 19- class. Interesting in the NEWS FLASH email, RAA are quoting 0.03% of jab movements have some reported engine trouble.
  24. Yes, but there are complications in doing so
  25. I guess it's better then no notice or time to comment. At least students have a week to try finish their solo training. Hope Jabiru and CASA can reach an agreement before this come into force, but that means compromise on position which neither party is known for
