  1. I would also be happy to vote for someone who brings something to the table, if they were located outside of North Qld, over someone who doesn't offer anything (other then being local), that said it would be hard to go against a local who is known by the members and switched on.
  2. From the Constitution of Recreational Aviation Australia Inc, Section 13-Election of Board Members Appendix B also defines North and South Queensland
  3. Still no indication on how many aircraft are actually grounded due to expired rego or awaiting to be processed? Double the amount of aircraft waiting "additional info" since last update a few weeks ago
  4. Does the RPL remain current if the RA Cert is expired/not renewed i wonder
  5. Wasn't there a sub-committee formed recently to look into the insurance issue/options for RA-AUS? I assume it was made up of professionals who could provide the right advice?
  6. I can't find any reference in the constitution to the appointment of a President (or acting President) other then the members of the board will elect the Executive at the beginning of the Annual Board meeting
  7. It would be good to see a working party/sub committee setup to explore how RA-AUS could design/implement an investigations team, how they could interact with ATSB, CASA, Police, etc and the costs that would be involved annually. Whether such positions could be worked into the current RA-AUS setup, maybe as Regional Coordinators? Also spending time running safety forums, compliance (with the aim of educating rather then revenue raising) checks etc.
  8. I like the idea of a mix of elected and appointed board members. 4-5 Elected members, voted by in a similar process as today (ie state/location/area based), another 4 appointed members (people with professional skills). The board would be responsible for the reviewing/selecting of candidates for appointed positions, which would be retified by members at the AGM. I wouldn't go as far of labelling each appointed position a particular role such as HR, or Marketing etc The board positions may need to be a paid position (part-time) to attract quality candidates, no different to company directors etc. I also agree on all board members undergoing compulsory governance training.
  9. Yes my understanding is any RAA member can nominate for the vacant position regardless of location, being a North QLD member I'm looking forward to seeing who puts up their hand to 'right the ship' and share their views/opinion/policy on improving recreational aviation in Australia (and north qld)
  10. I'm quite impressed with your ideas/points, however I'm keen to hear more about this last bit (has been mentioned previously with the same vagueness). Does anyone actually have any information regarding said cases being brought against us (RA-AUS), I understand the legality of discussing cases before the court, but surely as members of the association being sued, we are at the very least allowed to discuss/know the charges and damages sort?
  11. When people start calling to grab torches and pitch folks, I would expect them to be a little more forthcoming with the reasons why? There has been a lot of vague comments regarding disfunction and mismanagement, but when pushed for details to support the case, nothing has been published. You don't need to fly around for weeks to campaign and talk to each person individually (although you'd assume being a member of a flying association you wouldn't mind spending the odd weekend fly-in), there are various forms of communication to get your message/opinion across, such as this forum, email and social media, the magazine that each member gets a copy of.
  12. Would make sense to implement a 2 year registration as has been suggested, at least then we shouldn't be in this same position in 12 months time as they will be able to focus on the backlog rather then new renewals coming in.
  13. I've not been a member long enough to have had to vote in an election yet, however it's clear that neither side have really presented a case on why the board should be removed (or stay). If a particular candidate wants votes, then they need to campaign for them, get out there and share their opinions/direction for the Association and what they can bring to the table better then the guy already there.
  14. is it not an option to dissolve the board and put all positions up for re-election, those board members who think they are doing a good job and run again, those who think they are doing crap can run against them (or campaign against them in favour for someone else).
  15. I got the same reply a couple weeks ago when I added an endorsement to mine, not too concerned about it though, have all the required paperwork.
  16. I noticed a blue covered Jabiru parked in Cairns GA apron last week, was that yours?
  17. I'm not sure of what this "Apps" button is, but to take a screen shot from your iPhone, iPad or iPad mini simply press the Home Button and the Power Button together at the same time. The screen will flash and you'll hear the camera sound (if sound is on).
  18. Used to see him do the same almost daily in Cairns when he was based up here, some skill involved... wish i had taken the chance to go on a flight with him
  19. I believe there was an issue with the paint job which had to be redone, after which the owner decided he was going to put it with a flight school down south where it would get more use. Real shame.
  20. Yeah I spoke to Darren a couple of months ago and he no longer has the SportsStar and hasn't yet got a replacement, I had hoped to pickup some wet hire from him also until I heard the news.
  21. Have you had any luck finding anything yet?
  22. That shouldn't be too much of an issue depending how many GA hours you've done i guess. I highly recommend Ron Watson from WatsonFly in Innisfail, was great to learn to fly with him and his Jabiru aircraft was always a pleasure to fly. I was quite surprised there was no private hire up here, would have thought there would be enough market/demand, maybe based out of Mareeba or Atherton, guess it's the added cost of extra insurance turns people off hiring out.
  23. Thanks Doug, i spoke with Carlo a few weeks ago and he is currently rebuilding a couple of aircraft and using a jabiru for training only (owner doesn't want/isn't insured for private hire). Wasn't really in the market for a single seat, would love to get something one day but right now it's a bit out of reach. Out of interest what did you have in mind?
  24. Thanks Maj Millard, i did my training with Ron and he doesn't hire his plane out after training. Doesn't seem to be much in the way of hire up here in the North.
  25. Hi guys, I've recently picked up my RAA pilot certificate and hopefully completing my nav in a few weeks and found these forums which provide a wealth of information. I've yet to find any schools/clubs up north that does any sort of private hire after completing the training. Is anyone aware of private hire operations up in the Cairns/Tablelands/Innisfail area? Thanks and happy flying Rhys
