  1. I took private in "valid private or higher category pilot licence" to mean a Private Pilots Licence, which the RPL is not.
  2. Yes i hope that's the case also, but that doesn't change the fact that as it's currently written, pilots with both a RPL and RPC won't be able to fly RAA aircraft into CTA until the Operations Manual is updated.
  3. Similar to Cairns, the Area freq within 36DME is 126.1 which is also Cairns Approach. Civil ATC don't have the capability to call 126.7 though must be a military thing.
  4. Pilots looking at getting a RPL next month and flying RAA registered aircraft into controlled airspace may want to consider reviewing the CAO's and Operations Manual. As it stands now I don't think it is permissible under the Operations Manual?
  5. North of latitude 22 Degrees South is considered North Qld (as far as the RAA constitution is concerned), which lies between Mackay and Rockhampton
  6. Maj's emails are not on behalf of the board, therefore I don't think they warrant email to every member (although I think one was posted on this forum once). They are generally his opinion and I think the emails are worth while that an elected representative share his views on matters with the people who he is elected to represent and provides us (NQ members) a chance to share our own views. The question should be why isn't YOUR rep doing a similar email out? I do however totally agree with you that regional board members need to be removed and replaced with a national voting system, with 3 reps being elected each year, (with the 7th maybe nominated by the board and "appointed" on a yearly basis at the general meeting). Another option would be for the 7th to be the President, elected in a general election for a 3 year period.
  7. I was going off Ersa which has it listed as private aerodrome operated by BM Aliance Coal, rather then one owned or operated by the council. I guess to me it's the same as farmer Joe down the road who has his own strip on his land but doesn't let others fly it, and why should he.. It's his hard work after all and it's on the line when others use it due to the PL environment we currently live in
  8. Its private strip, used purely for company operations... Not quite the same as council strips getting shut due noise complaints. Try getting permission to land on Dunk Island or Lizard Island up here in FNQ
  9. A lot of the time the frequency is also combined with frequencies in controlled airspace, monitored by the same controller
  10. Not if it's registered with RA-Aus
  11. This is why people should provide feedback to the newsletter and request it weekly or fortnightly.
  12. That's Sad news, was considering getting one in the next year or so. Are they not made also in the States?
  13. I think it's a great first step, although not sure 4-6 weeks is a good time for a newsletter, since we have that covered in the mag already. I would like to see it weekly or at least fortnightly and have more substance on the issues currently being handled and plans/directions being worked on (and actually ask for members feedback or input on some of this directions). It would be nice to know what's being considered 'right now' so we can email our reps and let them know exactly what we think on any particular issue (i.e. CTA endorsement, Ops Manual, Board numbers etc).
  14. My post was in reply to the suggestion the form and fee should be rolled up into your pilot renewal.
  15. Nothing seems too easy for our office producers. Also not all members would require an ASIC so why be burdened with extra costs, when those who do can apply for one already. The issue is an ASIC should only be required within Restricted Areas, such as terminals and RPT aprons not at the GA fuel bowser. For that a Photo Graphic Pilots ID should be sufficient.
  16. I can't see getting out of Canberra will be high on the CEO's list considering it's his place of residence. Lets focus more on moving the HQ to a digital setup and worry about where the fewer staff that should be required after, are going to be housed.
  17. Thanks Maj, after a little more digging, I have found a news item that has the resolutions from the April Board meeting. It doesn't quite comply with the constitution though. Are you able to confirm that no other resolutions have been made since the Board meeting in April? I was under the impression the directors used a forum system to discuss and vote on issues between the face to face meetings. Shouldn't these also be published as per the constitution?
  18. I have no such link. The second listed item, the one I think you refer to isn't a link for me. Either way, has there been no resolutions since then? Edit: Deleted the list as it provided the links to the rest when logged out (very secure)
  19. I'm sure this would have been picked up by someone else already but 14B (ii) already has this in our constitution. The latest minutes that I can find on the RAA website are from 14th of Sept 2013. Should we assume no resolutions have been made since this date?
  20. How can you get 10 invalid papers in the NQ election, when there is only 2 candidates. Can anyone who was present at the counting give some examples? Congratulations Maj, looking forward to seeing some of the items we have discussed being implemented.
  21. It's the members who control the number of directors elected, not the board. Put forward a motion to change the constitution to 7 members voted by the membership. While your at it, how about one for all board motions be published within 7 days including how each member voted (or didn't). As for the Ops Manual draft not being provided to members, it's an outrage. Even CASA provide draft changes for people to provide comment/submissions. Maybe a motion could be put up to encourage its discloser as well. Edit: Just noticed motions had to be in by the 8th of August, guess it'll be another year before we see action
  22. And what security or background checks were done when you were issued with your Pilot Certificate? Does your Pilot Certificate contain your photo, or how will we know that it's indeed your pilot certificate and not one that has been stolen and being used by someone else. These will all become additional requirements should the ASIC be removed on gaining a PPL or RPC
  23. Andy, this is exactly why a committee is needed to work through those details, appoint a project manager. I'm not suggesting you put a couple IT people together to make the system, but to review our current data and come up with what's needed answering all your questions you've pointed out. You seem to have a good handle of what's required so hopefully if your elected to the board we will see such a resolution from the first board meeting.
  24. It may still be possible to operate in the restricted areas, to me it just seems they are making sure all flights will be known from flight plans and contact with ATC. IE you will need a clearance/permission.
  25. My Sport Mag just arrived this week and glossing over some of the board nomination letters, I seem to recall a couple had IT experience. I hope one of the first actions of the new board is setting up an investigative committee to get RAA systems online, including self serve renewals etc that Russ mentioned in an earlier post.
