  1. Thanks guys, I updated the Avmap software today in the Jab. Well what a prick of a job. What a terrible design Mr jabiru. To get to the CF card which is on the right side you have to try and undo a knurled nut at the back-- can't get to that unless you drop the dash forward by unscrewing all the screws and hanging it forward on the throttles. If you can then get the nut undone you still have to wriggle the bracket clear to move the unit to get to the Card to get it out Well after all that, plug the card into laptop and delete some files and add the new ones. Got it all back together and it seems fine. Edmo tells me there is a big difference in the software so that is good. So after all that I am not going to add any more waypoints via the card. So JayKay good luck with your Jab. Terry
  2. Thanks Watto, Yep, I intend to leave ot off. Terry
  3. Thanks Brent, Yes you are right about fuel. It has been organized but the day of the week can make the difference from what I hear. My plan at this stage is WGT-BHI and top up, then Marree for 2 nights-sharing drum fuel there then back to the Hill or Flinders Ranges. I am happy that we have a better range than the Seneca and others. Have you been up that way ? Terry
  4. Gidday All, I am just about to update my Avmap software and while I was doing that thoght I might do the database at the same time. There was talk 12 months ago about a file that had all the Aussie ala's and ersa strips in it. Does anyone know where I go looking for it. I found a link to it from JRMOBILE's post but it goes no-where. Terry
  5. Thanks Brent, I will take your advice. Doing an oil change tomorrow and then off to Lake Eyre friday week. I cant wait. Flying with a Seneca, esquale and C172, so it will be a good test for the Jab. thanks again for your help Terry
  6. Thanks to all those that replied. I tried some but not all, I am a bit impatient so I stuck with the first one that seemed to work. WD 40 seemed to soften the old tape well, let it soak a bit and then a fine sharp blade scooped it off with no paint damage. Now do I replace it or not ? Might leave it off Terry
  7. Gidday All, Too much negativity here about our Wang. The airfield is a great asset to the area and will remain council owned. Hands up those who have flown into Wang-one of country Vic's best strips. Sure the museum has gone because of lack off numbers etc, but what a fantastic job Precision Aerospace is doing rebuilding all the Kittyhawks and Mustangs etc. Murray has been employing 30-40 guys there for years. Call in and see if he will show you through, you will be amazed and drop into the aero club for a coffee and chat as well. Terry
  8. Gidday Junior and welcome, I reckon that Jab looks familiar Terry
  9. Gidday Phil, I have this on mine when transmitting sometimes. But have noticed it on a trip being out of action for a while and asked someone and they said a mobile phone in the wrong place can do it. He was right . I think a pax had his phone in the right pocket or on his seat. The phone thingy was the cause of mine. Test this for yourself. Cannot remember if the unit is under pilot or pax seat but the mobile will affect it. Terry
  10. Great post guys. I have never had the problem in the years flying C182's but now I have a Jab I have been doing just that and slowly getting the sight line right. I would touch down and head to the left. But I reckon I have them nailed now. Doing night circuits last week I found I was again heading to the left after touch down. Ok, I will go and do more practice, what a great excuse. Terry
  11. Yep, thanks Brent. I was just taking the p**s out of Mike about the sanding and painting. The 230 is as she was and just waiting for the time to try some of your suggestions. Terry
  12. Thanks Mike, I tried your suggestion and wow, it worked. Got all the old tape off and even the residue as well. What is the best filler to use to fill the scuff marks and gouges. The white paint from Supa Cheap someone suggested is a very poor color match so I now have to remove that as well as it did not fill the crevices as I had hoped after the sand Terry
  13. Well, I went out to the airfield this morning with good intentions and some of your suggestions to try but, the Co-pilot (read wife) was keen on a fly. How could I not say yes. Will give the suggestions a try and report back with the results next weekend Thanks for all the ideas Terry
  14. Gidday All, I have had the gap tape on the tailplane and elevator start to lift quite a bit. It got the better of me today and I pulled it all off before I had any trouble in the air. Now the tricky bit--what do I use to remove the residue without affecting the finish of the Jabiru ? The tape seems to be a medical type of fabric tape which was on the J230 when we purchased it. Any ideas from the experts out there would be greatly appreciated. Terry
  15. Just back from doing night circuits in the 230 and what a pleasure to fly at night and the heater had to be turned down-it works great. Terry
  16. Gidday Nezzie and welcome We have a fly away there every year and come up for St Pat's races usually in C 182's but hope to bring my Jab one day Terry
  17. Try the Wangaratta Flight Training Centre- although I am biased-no airways or landing fees and you dont spend half your time waiting on the taxi way Terry
  18. Gidday Donkey, I actually took Sam for a fly in J230 a few weks back cause he is keen to get started again. And Skydog yes you can use the strip, fly in , have a nice coffee and a meal if you like. I think the Wang Aero Club have form to use for access 57 213845 or ring Brown Brothers. Terry

    Natfly

Yes as the others say, they are crops and this pic was just North of the Murray on track from Wang to Narromine. That puts these crops West of Albury. They have a huge irrigator pivoted in the centre which they rotate around. Terry

    Natfly

Well that was the first natfly for me in the Jab and hopefully will have more time there next year if I get to attend. Left Wang (YWGT) at about 2pm on Friday just after a huge storm cell went through here and tracked for Narromine dodging cells all the way. See attached pic. Got to within 20 miles of NRM when the Unicom said airport closed, find somewhere else for now- hmm gotta believe that as the black sky and ground merged in one. A quick u-turn and we headed for Parkes with several others opting for the same airfield. After a good nights sleep in a motel my brother and I walked back to the airfield at 7 the next morning--the walk was longer than we thought Okay lets DI the Jab and get to NRM for brekky. It was a lovely early morning flight but on landing we were met with a long line of aircraft departing-that was weird we thought. Evidently the morning briefing was get out while you can. Had a great brekky in the Aero Club and a walk around before it started to rain lightly with ominous dark clouds starting to roll in. So after 2 hours at Natfly we departed for home while we could. The trip wasn't yet finished. We refuelled at Parkes and flew to Temora to catch the last of the airshow and were put into a holding pattern to the East while the Spitfire did its stuff and then joined a right downwind to land straight after the Spitfire. What a fantastic flying display and so close and personal. If you haven't been to Temora, make sure it is in your list of things to do. The flying displays were just finished and the rain was trying to start again so the next 1.5 hours was dodging rain showers all the way back to Wang. Thanks for the offer to drop in Captain but Wagga looked bad as well at the time, will get there one day We had a great trip and my brother a non flyer had a ball--another convert. 21. Could be Camerons corner but I remember the sides being higher Terry
  22. Always wanted to fly as a kid and planned to join the RAAF after school as aircrew-they had different ideas 12 were picked out of 2000 and I wasn't one of them -Damn it. Took up skydiving in the early 80's- took off fifty odd times but never landed in the plane-that was a real hoot. Then my wife gave me a gliding course for xmas- I bet she regrets that now-that was the start of the real bug- went from there to GA etc. I found this site on google as well Terry
  23. Heard of a bank type runner at a towered airport that used to always come in at night and say to the controller guess who-- one quite and dark night the controller answered -guess where and turned off the lights Terry
  24. Rumour is true. Saw it half built 4 weeks ago while touring the factory. It will be down the track a little yet i think. Terry
