Ok, here is a quick report on the Broken Hill trip. Well, out of the Jab230 and into a Cessna 182 for a few days. Man does the 182 seem big now but oh so stable and all the landings were great. I think the Jab has helped me heaps in that area. We departed Friday about 11.30 which was 2 hours later than I wanted to but 2 aircraft and 8 guys couldn't seem to get organised- doesn't matter, at least we were not at work. Because we were max weight we headed to Hay for a fuel stop to then get us to BHI. Ian the gentleman who came and refuelled us was fantastic and gave us all a lift into town for a pub meal and then dropped us back to the airfield later. So if you need to purchase a vehicle in Hay area, make sure you see Ian at Lugsdin Toyota--thanks Ian. Back in the A/C and off to BHI. Now what was different this year ? Not very rough at all and green with water lying around the place en-route. It was beautifull to see. An uneventfull flight but quite picturesque. Yeh I should add some pics but the camera was in the bottom bag in the rear-damn it. Friday night was spent in various watering holes and playing two-up at the Musicians club- what a great experience with a room full of people yelling to the spinner- head em up or tail em up and money in large amounts changing hands with every spin. I usually go OK but not this year. There were 140 Danish students staying at the Palace Hotel (Priscilla queen of the desert fame) where we had a few ales and found that they were creating some land art that can only be seen from the air ( sounds a waste to me). I am rambling here so lets wrap it-- the races were fantastic and on the Sunday everyone goes to Silverton which is about 30k to the north west for what is called recovery day. We departed Monday morning and did a low level run to the Menindee lakes which are filling rapidly- I am so happy for the locals having water in there lake again. Hang on, back one step-- after taking off we flew over the Danes land art but couldn't see anything so then went to Menindee The rest of the flight home was uneventful with us all looking and planning for next year. I will post a few pics from the guys when I can. Terry

Gidday Mikey, we may see you there as we have 2 182's leaving Wang at about 10 to head to Broken hill via a lunch stop at Pooncarie. We will be at the races and leave the hill on Monday to come home. Are you going to the races ? Terry

Access around Alice Springs and Darwin for Fuel and secure parking
flie43 replied to Captain's topic in Trips/Events/Seats
Righto Geoff, I have a few details from a mate and some from when we were over that way last year. On our Lake Eyre trip we went from Broken Hill to Marree and overnighted there in the Caravan Park in a cabin which was great (think it was the Oasis) they have a great outside BBQ where everyone meets each other for about $10--brilliant and a good town to have a look at. Fuel is by drum which is not much chop cause you wont fit in 200 litres. leigh Creek doesn't have fuel anymore. William Creek has avgas in a bowser and is also a good spot to stop. Thats me done. The J230 fuel load made it easy My mate Sheldon then went to Cadney Homestead, great food and avgas etc. Then Ayres Rock more avgas then Alice Would love to get to Temora but doing some family camping over Easter. Enjoy her Cameron, she will be missed here in Wang. I will fly over soon and meet up with Sheldon for a weekend when I can find some time. Terry

Trouble turning around on the ground--gotta be a Jab -
Big Pete, I am right with you on the brakes. Bloody embarrasing having to shut down and get out to turn the girl around at the end of some narrow strip at a fly-in (Jimbour winery recently ) I don't think they need the complexity of toe brakes but a seperate lever as suggested that CANNOT be left on. Sorry Tomo for not replying earlier. Yes that was yesterday or last week now. Just arrived back in Wang at 9.30 this morning in a 36knot crosswind most of the way and 36 degrees. Time for a shower and rest. It was a great trip and we clocked up 20 hours and met some great people. Terry
