Ok, here is a quick report on the Broken Hill trip.
Well, out of the Jab230 and into a Cessna 182 for a few days. Man does the 182 seem big now but oh so stable and all the landings were great. I think the Jab has helped me heaps in that area.
We departed Friday about 11.30 which was 2 hours later than I wanted to but 2 aircraft and 8 guys couldn't seem to get organised- doesn't matter, at least we were not at work.
Because we were max weight we headed to Hay for a fuel stop to then get us to BHI. Ian the gentleman who came and refuelled us was fantastic and gave us all a lift into town for a pub meal and then dropped us back to the airfield later. So if you need to purchase a vehicle in Hay area, make sure you see Ian at Lugsdin Toyota--thanks Ian.
Back in the A/C and off to BHI. Now what was different this year ? Not very rough at all and green with water lying around the place en-route. It was beautifull to see. An uneventfull flight but quite picturesque. Yeh I should add some pics but the camera was in the bottom bag in the rear-damn it.
Friday night was spent in various watering holes and playing two-up at the Musicians club- what a great experience with a room full of people yelling to the spinner- head em up or tail em up and money in large amounts changing hands with every spin. I usually go OK but not this year.
There were 140 Danish students staying at the Palace Hotel (Priscilla queen of the desert fame) where we had a few ales and found that they were creating some land art that can only be seen from the air ( sounds a waste to me).
I am rambling here so lets wrap it-- the races were fantastic and on the Sunday everyone goes to Silverton which is about 30k to the north west for what is called recovery day.
We departed Monday morning and did a low level run to the Menindee lakes which are filling rapidly- I am so happy for the locals having water in there lake again. Hang on, back one step-- after taking off we flew over the Danes land art but couldn't see anything so then went to Menindee
The rest of the flight home was uneventful with us all looking and planning for next year.
I will post a few pics from the guys when I can.
