  1. I received this email regarding a fresh approach to obtaining a second airfield in the ACT. I post it here as is, with no changes, for your interest. Jack.  -----Original Message----- From: Recreational Airport Canberra [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 16 July 2009 3:44 PM To: Recreational Airport Canberra Subject: Williamsdale/Second Airport Meeting 6 Aug 5.30pm I hope this email finds you all well and flying happily! I’m sending this notification on behalf of David Edmunds. There will be a meeting at Unit 3/1 Pirie Street, Fyshwick (the RA-Aus headquarters) beginning at 5.30pm on the 6th August 2009 to further the proposal for a recreational airport in the ACT. The major items are the election of office bearers for an association in order to carry the proposal forward, and the formation of working groups. Unfortunately, it’s too late to get an announcement into the RA-Aus magazine although it will be going on the website. We would be very grateful if you could inform anyone else who may be interested about the meeting please. All supporters are welcome whether they are RA-Aus, GA, SAAA or any other type of recreational pilot. You may remember that there was a suggestion that everyone at the first meeting would attempt to bring someone else to the next meeting – it would be nice to try and continue that. You are receiving this email because you are on the mailing list for those interested in a second airport for Canberra. If you no longer wish to receive notifications please reply with “UNSUBSCRIBE” in the subject line. Thanks! Lani RA-Aus P: 02 6280 4700 F: 02 6280 4775 PO Box 1265, Fyshwick ACT 2609
  2. August 2010 ? August 2010 ? I'll be there in my new home built Zenith 601 XL - I just pulled the first rivet last night ! Nearly dropped in on the way to Wide Bay, till I read Tomo wouldn't be there. Jack. PS Where is that icon with a round tuit ?
  3. supplement All about the air show has been said, but just incase you missed seeing it, here is a picture of Slarti’s favorite airplane at the show. One thing I will remember about this show was how cold it was. Mainly on the Friday and Saturday, a chilly wind blew hard from the West. There was more use off the grass cross runway than the main runway. Rumors at the show were that the previous air shows were not profitable, and that this time there was a new management. For a first time, I would say they made a good fist of it if you take it for what it was - an air show for the masses, and not so much an air show for aviation enthusiasts. Let’s hope they learn from their mistakes, and make it better next time. A copy of Raglan it isn’t. It doesn’t even come close. Visiting aviators got in for free - but that’s all they got. I hope the air show made a profit. If they didn’t, it must be just how they do the accounting. The town was packed to the rafters. I tried to book any sort of accommodation a week before, and I could not find anything. I drove a hire car around, and I did not see a hotel without a ‘no vacancy’ sign. I even looked at the surrounding towns on the coast. We could not camp with our ‘planes at the airfield. The local showground was made into a camping ground by Rotary, plainly by amateurs again. Basic food was available at a showground type outdoor facility. It was cccold with a chilly westerly wind. No shelter, little light, and no warmth at all. There was no transport and no entertainment. Not even a fire. For those that walked it was a 3.5km hike to reach their ‘plane. If I cannot find a room next time, I am definitely not going. All in all the positives outweighed the negatives. There was an excess of volunteers, all wearing bright yellow shirts, sporting the show theme - under jumpers and cardigans. The mood was positive and cheerful, and help in any direction was at the drop of a hat. I did not come across any individuals bent on making life difficult, and I only got my ASIC card out on the last day when I heard some aviators airside had been warned that the card should be worn. No one even looked at it. If my hat wasn’t blown off, I would take it off to the three pilots of the Tiger Moths that flew around for at least half an hour with bunting attached between their ‘planes. 4. Terps Terps seems to soften and dissolve most of these types of adhesives. Remember, any solvent needs time to soak in - don't expect to just wet a rag and wipe the stuff off. Always try a small area first - even if clean Terps does no damage, the dye in the product you are removing might cause a problem. Jack.:):)
  5. Me too Weather dependent of course ! Jack.
  6. Assorted comments. If the weather gods don't shine, the difficult places to navigate are along the ranges near the coast. If the fly in was held on the NSW coast, the chance of the Southerners getting there is very much reduced. Holding it somewhere inland Northern Victoria / Southern NSW inland is fairer to everyone. If the fly in is held at Cowra any other weekend than the SAAA weekend, the attraction for that airfield is not very strong at all. Narrowmine does have good facilities close by. So does Temora. Holbrook has alot going for it too. I did enjoy being able to stand around the fire at Camden Haven though. Jack. :) :)
  7. Not in Victoria It cannot possibly be in Victoria - we all would have to be quarantined when we got back ! Jack :yuk: :yuk:
  8. Answer The answer to the question is "The Oaks" For Jabs ring Dave' flying school 02 4657 2771, all week Foxbat or Lightwing, ring SRFC (the club) 0425 251 939 for flying on the weekend. For just somewhere to go and get an infusion of ultralight flying, I can recommend no better than The Oaks. If you go on a Saturday, there are lots of aircraft to see, many people about, and rarely fewer than two aircraft in the air. Jack.:thumb_up:
  9. Must be an explanation Hey Tomo ---Were you in an aircraft when you made the calls, or sitting in a chair at the side of the field with your handheld, just waiting for this fella to be two off the ground before................I mean, there must be a reason why this guy was so upset ! Jack. :rotary:
  10. need explanation ? I don't think I need to explain wanabigaplane, but I would like to point out that it goes with the Sapphire in my avatar. In my trip half way around Australia in it, there was just not enough room for everything - especially with ERSA full of pages referring to places an RAAus 'plane cannot fly. And Mr Funnel. Jack. :):)
  11. So how do the Chinese communicate in Morse code ? Jack.
  12. Thought I would get the latest model epirb at Narromine - till I saw the prices. Considering features, warranty, battery life, transmit time, etc, and of course price, I settled on the GME MT410G. Has GPS, strobe, 121.5 beacon, etc. I ordered mine from Whitworth Marine last week. They said I would have to wait for the next batch to come in. It arrived today. Cost $599 plus postage. Jack. :) :)
  13. Uh-oh Not looking good. Might still go to the hangar on the day and look out the window. Jack.  thumb_down thumb_down thumb_down
  14. Hey BigPete - do I bring my tent or not? If you are arranging group accommodation I'm interested. I've tentatively planned to attend, just haven't asked the weather gods yet. Jack. thumb_down
  15. Don't do it If you plug your headset into a position behind your seat, it could be out of reach during flight. When you are having communication problems, you cannot check the headset is properly plugged in, and you cannot try the other headset to see if the fault is in the headset. Jack.
  16. some good Some Marysville residents told me that, after the fires, Telstra handed out mobile phones to those who previously had landlines. They also connected their previous land line numbers through to their mobile phones. Jack.
  17. shortage I'm only 5'2" - is that a severe shortage? Jack.
  18. epirb info For a good market appraisal see posting in GPS Australia. GPS Australia - EPIRB - 406Mhz Emergency Beacon compare (PLB) Jack.:):)
  19. But.... Sounds great, but what about when you are too old to fly? Then you're stuck in some god forgotten hell hole with no where to go, no services, no kids to foist yourself on, and a 'plane you can only wash the ever-invading red dust to get your flying fix. And worst of all, you may not even have the internet to partake in this forum! Jack.
  20. CDI modules I have heard from those that know more about these things than I, that the modules Jabiru use come from the same source as the commercially available ones with the same part number. However; they have a different setting in their electronics which allows for higher revs before the over-rev protection cuts in. Jack. :) :)
  21. Prototype Prototype built. Now I just have to program it! :):)
  22. Hey Slarti - Is your GPS broken? Forgotten how to navigate? Remember - Monday nights, in Weston. Down Hindmarsh drive into Brierly St, then Liardet St. Havn't seen you for a while ! Jack.
  23. Whatabout.... Whatabout 10 litre markers ? Just a thought ! Jack.
  24. Big piston From the ad - "The Ecoflyer is a composite airplane with a single piston engine." Must be a pretty big piston ! Saw it at Oshkosh (the 'plane, not the piston). It was like a Kombi inside. I would double check those performance figures if I was buying one. Jack.
  25. Pro's Helicopters are pro's because they screw themselves into the air and have no visible means of support. :rotary:
