  1. I updated it now and the in the wind side for heading/ drift and groundspeed.
  2. I use pencil. but instead of drawing a dot, i draw a dark circle around where the dot should be.
  3. I agree this failing with n feedback after reading a tremendous amount of material is a serious flaw in the package, and I have contacted RAA to make them aware of this. I stumbled upon their course a day or two before it was announced and this struck me as a major problem that would really offend many participants. Its a trial period, so people need to contact RAA with these issues.
  4. Another great exercise is to fly along the centerline 15-30 feet AGL and hold the centre line in crosswinds...take the hold off and rondout out of the equation....so you can isolate the skill and perfect it. Practice both crabbing and wing down.
  5. Yep, learn to use those wings....jam em over hard and early and get back on the center line... You're in control of the aircraft, not the wind!
  6. Ok, so I am as tech literate as the top 5% of people. But, no BS. Was in flight Port Macquarie to Ballina, just west of Coffs , near CTA...iPad stopped, phone stopped, nothing, and my triathlon watch had no GPS signal, even my AvMap in my aircraft had no signal.....I will reveal why later....now on the coast that's not an issue...you know there is an airport directly N or S..... but what do you do if your 200 nm west of whoopdy doo with limited landmarks, limited roads and aerodromes that are very hard to spot, even when you know where they are.... and your rustys as hell because you have become reliant on technology...its a very dangerous and serious issue and you won't realise how serious till it happens. Then this part is theoretical, but let's assume your in an area which I have been multiple times SW of Tamworth and radar has no idea where you are? They can't help you either. Believe me when this happens, the most high priority thing you will do is re-study all those onerous manual calculations and dead reckoning. Im am in agreeance that iPad flying is far safer than dead reckoning. however when technology glitches , like it inevitably does, you better damn well know how to dig yourself out of that luxurious hole in a hurry.

  9. Most aerodromes taking high perfromance have AWIS so they just listen to that at about and go with it.
  10. Georgeous looking aircraft, but i cant help but notice the large length between the fierewall and screen. To me that must contribute to why Gary wanted the wheels futher back. Putting the wheels forward Looks like it would put it at risk of tipping when the front tank is empty or any load carried behind the pax.
  11. LMS Learning Management System SCORM Sharable Content Objects Allows for components or objects of courses to be used wherever needed and the package to be zipped. They are not fully SCORM but they are almost compliant. The next step is to go xAPI which then allows for sharing of content objects between different providers on different technology platforms . That way CASA RAA and SAAA HGFA FAA etc can share content that is applicable to each group. So as an example if they wrote a maint course on the Rotax 912 each organaisation could utilise it and share it within thier chosen groups on various platforms.
  12. I did mine twice. It is slightly more difficult to navigate than it needs to be, especially for people not used to working in SCORM type education packages. However this is the way new education systems are supposed to be designed so they have done the correct thing and built it as a SCORM type course for the future. I got through the first sections no problems. But then got 18/23 twice for the final exams which is a fail. So I scored 89.58% for the entire course, but have technically failed the course. My issue that I failed twice and I got no feedback to tell me why or what I got wrong. So I have no way of studying or restudying the topic. Credit where credits due though. They have designed the course properly, they have brought a paper based course and test that CASA has approved in law via the SAAA into the RAA universe and they have built a well designed and run LMS. However if it is going to work , they are going to need to have someone or some software actively assist in giving feedback for the last section. I scored 18 twice, but I noticed the course average is only 12.6 out of 23. Using a Bell curve this would indicate about 5 % of people are passing the exam. To waste 6 hours reading and studying and fail twice with no feedback is not going to impress many people when 95% of people are failing with no feedback and no contact or follow up. RRA are making a lot of positive IT and eLearning moves. This has potential, but the feedback needs improving. Unfortunately because its approved in legislation it requires a 90% pass mark. However the legislation does not stipulate how many attempts or whether feedback can be given, as I am sure it was given when it was done on pen and paper format.   13. An L1 can work on a 24 rego if it is not used for hire and reward, or flown in CTA. Prior to training any occurring in it, after it has been maintained by an L1, then an L2 must inspect it. To return it to the hire and reward fleet it would need a full L2 inspection.

Many people who cant pass a medical or start learning too old, only every fly with an instructor.

Here is my opinion why I believe its 0.00% We operate under exemptions and whilst I take your point and it makes a lot of sense, the only limit mentioned in the ops manual is (effectively 0.00%) . So I would suspect to a judge, given that we operate under an exemption, would say the CASA rule would not apply, except if someone was being tested in accordance with a DAMP. In all other circumstances the intention and reasonable interpretation of the RAA Ops manual would in my opinion apply. It is the only set of rules and its intention is pretty clear. Otherwise item 14 should simply refer to clauses in Part 99, or repeat what they say. I think you would be very hard pressed getting any insurance or fending off a lawsuit if you caused an accident and blew 0.018

The ops manual is our rules so if your operating using a Pilot Certificate those are the rules. We operate under exemptions, so we can't pick and choose which exemptions we want to apply and when. If the ops manual says 0.00% then that is the rule. CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY REGULATIONS 1998 - REG 99.010 Definitions for Part 99 " permitted level " means: ......... (b) for alcohol--a level of alcohol of less than 0.02 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath. And from The Permitted Limits | Civil Aviation Safety Authority The Permitted Limits The Permitted Limits and Test Result procedures Both DAMP testing and CASA random testing may test for alcohol as well as drug groups that contain cocaine, cannabis, opioids and amphetamines. The limits for alcohol and testable drugs will be as follows: for alcohol - a breath alcohol concentration (BAC) of below 0.02%.

  22. I've seen similar driving up the highway north of Willy. Could easily be mistaken for a UFO, but clearly an aircraft...I put the motionless down to it coming toward me ... But easy to understand why someone may report it as a UFO when you see it...
