  1. I havnt I havnt had a chance to ask Airservices yet. What I was told was, that they supply an update document with the changes, you then pencil them onto the WAC map, hence then judged as up to date. WAC map only! PHIL
  2. I was only referring to sports aircraft. VTC, etc are not required, but if you carry them they must be current.
  3. Looks like tiger country around there. My condolences to family and friends. Phil
  4. Yes could be, Obviously I didn't want to push the issue. PHIL
  5. Likewise. I asked the CASA guys Saturday what was the latest with the Jab instrument. They replied still ongoing as another Jab down. Guess they were refering to the above. PHIL.
  6. Mike, Great to catch up. You have done a brilliant build on the Avocet. Much appreciated that you did your longest Xcountry yet and confidence with the design. PHIL
  7. The "boys" we're in attendance at Loxton this weekend. They never did a ramp check. I volunteered to show them my recent material from a trip from Qld to Loxton to see if I was legal. All ok except that I had an out of date wac map. I have OZrunnways and questioned why I should have to pay for a later map. The reply was that if I carry a map it has to be current! And is ILLEGAL to carry an out of date map. Apparently you can subscribe to get updates free and mark in the alterations, I never knew this, so will investigate. The summary of this is that if I didnt carry a map, I would be legal with only my efb. A back up method is obviously good piloting, so the current maps would be sufficient. They had a few giveaways, one was a credit card sized info on what you need for a ramp check which I found would be helpful for reminders before a trip. Basically an information presence. PHIL
  8. Thanks to everyone that visited Loxton Saturday. About 40 odd aircraft flew in from around the state and a few interstate. The rain Friday was most welcomed by the farmers but put a few off coming. Saturday's weather was great. The 200 that attended the hangar dinner were all well entertained. 4 trikes left Newcastle mid week, however the weather stopped them and they had to stay at Swan Hill. Not to miss the event they hired a car and drove the remainder of the trip, some sort of medal should be stuck for the determination IMHO. A big hug for Kerrie the organiser chair and a slap on the back for her committee members for another successful biennial flyin. Phil
  9. Still coming to Loxton Saturday? I hope you can get away for a few hours Tim. I will look out for the smoke lol Phil

  11. Just home from a 15 hour jaunt. Cht variation was the same as yours, only a single probe though. Kept me happy enough. PHIL
  12. I believe that the knee jerk reaction to have two persons in the cockpit was to placate the travelling public. The real remedy soon would be to have an access code, personal password or finger print, iris recognition or something similar for the pilots. And perhaps a barrier of sorts that can be easily activated to isolate the passengers for a short time. Just a thought. PHIL
  13. Last flight from Caloundra to Loxton. Table grape netting at Redcliffe VIC Beautiful contours south of Gatton QLD Phil
  14. Hope you can make it. Bring a small pot of touch up paint. I have a couple of small stone chips on the HS Cheers
  15. Bruce and others, I have had my 230 factory built now for seven years. This was my first plane that I owned except for a share in another 230 for a year or so. I certainly spent much time determining what aircraft I needed for my needs, consequently I settled for a 230 predominantly due to my desire to travel cross country. I keep looking out for a better aircraft that would suit, so far nothing has come close. Value for money, yes. Great touring aircraft, yes. If you are just doing bumps and goes I would reconsider my choice. Over the years I have travelled to most of OZ by 4 wheel drive and retraced my route by air. Absolutely magnificent experience. I can recommend this model for anybody that has a like interest. Cheers. PHIL
  16. Mike, Bed available if you can make it. It would be great to see the Avocet in the flesh! Hangar dinner $60. Super feast with plenty of entertainment Should be a good show again. 50 odd. Aircraft booked confirmed. You will need to book in via the web site for the dinner Great to catch up again if you can make it. Cheers. PHIL
  17. Good news today from our fly in coordinator Kerrie Palamountain. The 200 seats for the hangar dinner are nearly all booked, only a few left. It's shaping up to be the best yet with great speakers throughout Saturday. Let's hope the weather is kind for us. Hope to catch up with past visitors for a chat. PHIL. Ps Contact our web page for all info.
  18. In OZ he would be sniffing bricks for 5 years or so. Happened to a guy I know with only 10 guns plus ammo. Phil
  19. Generally speaking, it would depend on the aircrafts design factors. My J230 for instance with full flaps glides hands off with full rear trim. I do a reasonable amount of slideslip Practice to the point that it is an instantaneous decision in changing X wind situations. So, maybe if I was flying into a crash, this option would be available immediately to me to align myself with the chosen site and lose some height quickly if needed. By chosen site, I mean perhaps between the big trees or better still a less forested area if available. Just my thoughts. Phil
  20. Attention everybody, is there a Doctor, sorry Pilot on board, a flight crew member wants a wee. Phil
  21. Tim, I'll speak to Kerrie, our fly in organiser and get you a space to promote your book at our fly in. Careful with MTOW in the Nieuport Hope all is well at home. Cheers PHIL
  22. Met him once. Liked the guy, no bull dust, I asked a few questions regarding aircraft as you would, his response was mainly that it was the have and have nots, plus safety Guess I came away with the impression that the fat cats and CASA versus the underdog was his objective. Every party has a constitution ( shame that the voters don't read same) I will await his party's comments. Great bloke, hope it doesn't break his heart. Phil
