  1. Many thanks JG Regards, Phil.
  2. Just realised the stupid question on "full page" expand it! but weather site has me guessing still.
  3. Words have already been said, I can't improve on them. It brought back memories of my trip to the Kimberly and Canning with far better pics than I took, Thank a million for sharing. Question, How did you get the weather map of the storm activity on your i-Phone? Full page? Phil
  4. Interesting discussion. I did my review last week and the CFI put me through the paces re the new levels. He showed me an erc low map with class E but mostly shown at fl 125 He couldnt find any at 8500 as previous erc lows showed. His point was that if flying in class E below 9500 the transponder is manditory and set to 1200 and radio tuned area freq. I guess that there would be some Class E below 9500 and totally agree with Mazda and Tomo's comments.
  5. Main jet seems a wee small. I upped mine on Jabiru advice to I think 2.85 or 2.95 (sorry the maintenace log is in the plane) Are you getting more revs than previous? Have you changed the prop?
  6. I too have not been unable to access. Dex, program gives taf, arfor in plain english. The best point is that it draws a line portraying fronts, also nominates the best runway. I have had for a couple of years, bought from a guy Melbourne way for about $30. Don't remember his contact though.
  7. It would be great to have the program more reliable. I use a lot and get frustrated when I can't access regularly. I.B has done a good job but as he says he needs to work for a living so not always at the computer. I hope you can develop a similar product. Regards.
  8. Well, you leave from Midura with no x-ray etc, then arrive Melbourne and go through the rigmarole to exit the terminal. Weird!
  9. Some time ago I did a private trip with a Yank ex CFI. He suggested that I do my downwind checks and THEN configure speed, flaps BEFORE turning base. His reason was that turning base was when you are in the most vunerable position in the curcuit and getting that out of the way earlier gives you more time for visual awareness. I passed this view onto my then local CFI who said OK as long as they were completed. His teaching was to finish checks downwind and then configure on base. I found this method a lot less stressful and now use it 100% of the time. Only downside I can think of is if you have a busy curcuit it may slow down the movement by a few seconds also new pilots could run out of time on downwind.
  10. Click on the Aussie flag and lo and behold......
  11. David 10 Guess that it sounds confusing using the 800' on base but this allows me to on average be on final at 500' Perhaps you more experience pilots can do this with eyes shut. Same could be said for balance ball, I rarely have to monitor now except glances when landing, where once I used to watch constantly.
  12. My method that has done me well for yonks is::: Add 1500' to AD height Add 1000' to join curcuit Add 800' on base Add 500' on final Have these numbers on the AD sketch handy. Do these when flight planning always.
  13. If you are considering distance flying, two radios are very comforting.
  14. First winter that I have not had to use hot water, jumperleads etc. I have not used the choke at all, turns over a few times and always starts. Irridium plugs make some difference I'me sure. I installed mainly after talking to Don at Jabiru and local pilot Theroy who is having a good run with them. Regards Phil.
  15. Chris, I had the devil of a problem with my 230 for two years until I did all the mods and suggestions from these forums. Change earth lead position Iridium spark plugs 1.2 mm drill out jet Different brand solenoid Larger battery Because I did most of these at the same time, it was impossible to tell which fixed the problem, however I think the drill out, larger battery and Iridium plugs were the main fixits. Incedently I have NOT used the choke once since. Phil.
  16. Port pirie then William creek last I heard Maree fuel not available Roxby could be an option but phone first what's your range?
  17. Ian, I use iPhone and PC about 50 50 The iPhone mosly for weather when travelling. Question. What will be the difference to my current logging in to the site? In other words I get what I need now. Phil.
  18. Penfield also has motel type accommodation at reasonable rates. Stay there and hire a car from Sunbury. Trains are about 35 mins from CBD and are frequent. Flying school seems very active and a lift into Sunbury should be possible. Phil.
  19. Bass, I have only had mine inspected by authorities 6-7 times and never a comment. Twice they wrote down the number, for record purposes I imagine.
  20. I produced mine at the Business class window with American Airlines to L A and asked if there were any upgrades. $800 later I was at the front of the plane. A saving of a couple of grand. Tried the same on the way back with Qantas but no go. I consider that I am well in front even without the coffees.
  21. Good choice with auto pilot Love to hear from Kevin as work progresses Cheers, Phil.
  22. Mobile coverage in this area on the ground stinks. But I would still carry a phone as coverage at height (Mildura) is available
  23. Thats what a 170 owner told me last night. NO COST
  24. Years ago my then boss told me of a chap who was asked to fill a wheat bag with water. After an hour or so one of the other guys went to see him standing with the bag under the tap. He asked the guy why he was so gullible. He replied that while he was doing this he was not doing anything else. Phil.
  25. Always use carbie heat with revs after mag check for around 15 seconds. If ice is present the revs will pick up when heat is removed. I also use heat just prior to take-off if ice is present (last part of taxi) Phil
