  1. Re power lines My CFI did an engine out for the first time at an area near power lines, this was the spot I said I could land as it was a good looking paddock. He said have you seen the power lines? Perhaps all instructors should do this in early training as I have never forgotten the valuable lesson learnt Phil
  2. Just ordered today looks good Many thanks OME Phil.
  3. Yeah, My Jab was grounded a few months ago and I believe with some others Cought me 800 miles from home via email and later letter Shoot, they have my phone number. Very disappointing service from my point as the expense of commercial flight home was not cheap Perhaps I can contact the no charge lawyers for reimbursement? Guess not as I will have to pay more subs. In fairness to some degree, the stuff up was fixed in a couple of weeks, so hope this is the case here. One wonders why this has to happen again
  4. Hi Rosita My regards to David and thanks for posting the event. I do hope that you can muster up the courage to fly with David again, it would be great for you both. Lesson is don't fly near canola or have some height to avoid. This crop is very dense, a bit like landing on water I reckon. Regards and cheers Phil.

    Oil

My 230 uses very little oil up to about 12-15 hours after an oil change Progressivly uses more until the 25 hour change i use 15w50 and would add around one lt for the 25 hours or around 40 mls an hour The collector is about half full by then.
  6. Well done If you miss Truro on the map, next stop Loxton Seriously, great news and excitement that you will treasure always
  7. High performance aircraft I had reason to contact RAA oz recently re my Flying certificate not having HP endorsement like my mates I asked what constituted HP and they replied something like a Jab or similar Seeing as I have only flown a Jab they endorsed me. Make sure you get the CFI to tick the boxes when you do your next BFR
  8. You are entitled to your opinion (Statement toned down a bit. .... Mod)

    Latest 3300

Don, I would get a LAME to investigate. Leak down test etc. Figures should indicate the problem. Aside to this, I was supplied a full engine analysis print out when I got mine. Check your records it may show up there. Phil
  12. Hi Chris What poweplant are you getting with the Bristol? Regards Phil
  13. Got one of those but unless you remember to locate within easy reach the plastic sick bag from the chemist which fits into the side pocket works well.
  14. Andy, see post # 17 if you referring to my post Phil.
  15. Just noticed this forum and want to add my recent experience. Caloundra to Narromine, around 4 hours and busting with an hour to go. Looked in door pocket and found a plastic sick bag, undo seat belt, belt, fly and zipp. All went well. There is a cut in the top of the bag neck to seal the twisted neck watertight. Bought a couple more the other day.
  16. Never had a problem since enlarging the idle jet to 1.2mm No choke used since the mod for two winters now A real fix recommend by Jab Phil
  17. Refueller at Birdsville was sure interested in my ASIC Must have been having a quiet or boring day!
  18. A wind sock knows not the difference between 15 or 30 knots IMO:drive:
  19. At 60 kt it's about 1 kt per degree. Thanks Zibi. Thats the information I was looking for. Cheers.
  20. Oldest trick in the book: Just look at your compass rose, HSI, EHSI or what type of instrument you're flying the approach on. In most cases it has a inboundcourse coinciding to the relevant runway track set to it. - Put a finger on the number relating to the reported wind. - Trace a line parallell and perpendicular to the inboundcourse on the instrument. - Note where the parallell line intersects the inbound course and where the perpendicular line intersects with the deviation dots. It makes it very easy to see what percentage of the wind you have coming in from the side and the nose/tail component. Just multiply that with the windspeed and you're home free. /LnS Got this from another site
  21. Yes, it was assuming 80 knots
  22. New I've been doing Trigonometry all day and my head's spinning, but that sounds like one of those grandma recipe things which requires calibrated eyeballs. Guess that I didn't explain myself. You are on final and lined up with the centre line You are crabbing 10 deg determined by the compass determine the X wind by the 10 deg factor. It was in a forum or book about a couple of years ago but don't remember the answer. Could have been 1 deg = 2 knots or 1 deg = 1 knot. Assuming you have a compss that is. Phil
  23. I read somewhere a while ago about a method of determining X wind strength on final. It went something like... 10 deg off centre line = 10 kn X wind. Does anybody remember the formular? Phil.
  24. Wayne Johns does our 100 hour services. He will fly in or you can fly to his strip at Bow Hill north of Murray Bridge Pretty busy bloke but excellent lame Worth a call 0427310095 Phil
