  1. Same for this guy. Never got his license again plus aircraft grounded I have suggested to our group that we have as per regs that a responsible person be nominated as duty officer that day. Usually the first to fly that day. His resposibilities are to maintain order at the site and be critical of radio calls etc Seems to work as the group responds after the BBQ and the discussions of the day day unfolds Keeps all aware of the rules etc And stops the possibity of straying away from the norm We have a small club of about 13 craft so this maybe why it works No metalmanz not the same guy as above but the same attitude as you said Cheers
  2. Could be the same bloke I knew some years ago doing the same thing except his undoing was to bring back a length of high tensile telephone wire from a party line hooked to his tail wheel.
  3. Professor Avias for GM!!!
  4. Do all the merchant and cruise ships in the oceans have road maps? Just a thought. I was leaving a USA city some years ago before gps time. I did about 70 miles circling the city in smog before my wife mentioned that the same sky scraper seems to be not moving. I had a map too Having spent many years in the bush has made me more aware of the natural landcrape for navigation on cloudy days, for instance, wind direction and sand hill direction for that area. Must admit that I carry 2 X gps and all maps for the areas plus Ozrunways. Keeps me occupied on longer trips and I enjoy the excercise. Phil
  5. Ian, What's the latest with the Pemet plain language weather option? (no longer in weather pages) I recall that you were going to duplicate with help some time ago. What news about progress? Merry Xmas and keep up the good work. Phil.
  6. I have benn following this thread for a while now. There seems to be variable issues of problems relating to the audit via casa. I rember when we built our 19 reg aircraft, I filled in all the requirements, pics of panel, pics of ergo number etc. I kept a file of what I sent. Sometime later I got a notice that I had failed an audit and was requested to send the underwing pic of reg, numbers, which I had already supplied! Sent again to appease. Next I bought an 24 aircraft and was grounded after an audit because the paper work (supplied by the manufacturer) was not sufficient? What I am getting at is IMHO the system that we had in place for registration was sloppily recorded and attention to detail was ignored. I won't and can't point a finger to any individual or group, but if I was a manager the paperwork should be in order as per the regulations laid down by casa to assure that we as an organisation comply with the rules. Probably we have grown from when I joined from about 3,000 to our current membership of 3 times that and has caused the system to outgrow the capabilities of the staff to keep up with the requirements. We are currently trying to fix the problems by all I have read, howevever until we change our mentality and follow the rules, the problem will continue. Thanks to all those that offered help. If a flying school near me that has suffered from this catastrophe, I will offer my J 230 to hire to them, just pm me and we will talk Let's hope all is well in the near future Phil.
  7. All talk about sackings etc. are not going to fix the casa requirements for audits. Files need to be gone over and checked. Casa, like the ato do random checks. Files need to be in order to get a pass, simple as that! Goes years back when this area was not probably policed or checked thoroughly with first registrations.
  8. Yes, that's it Thanks
  9. Could be ,GN Forums are for you to work out . The written words is what I see Planey, Thanks for your kind words I do hope you have many years of pleasure Regards
  10. Any one see a utube skit about a daughter giving her dad an iPad? He used it for cutting up the veggies and Washed it in the sink!
  11. Got my boyhood lifetime dream at 69. Built a plane, sold, then factory built Jab, now nearly 600 hours. After 7 years of unbelievable Satisfaction, touring, club involvement , mates with a passion for flying, I hope to get past my next few bfr's and continue the journey Probably takes a bit longer than a 16 year old to learn but I am the proof that it can be achieved . As an aside, I would be very particular that one gets an instructor that you feel related to. I say this because the first guy nearly made me give it away. . .
  12. Took off from YMOR last year at dawn, first time that I have seen any usefull need to use, it certainly iluminated the runway. I always have on when touring, but have yet to hear that I am identified by these. Strobe lights are more noticible, especially from above. Finals would be of some comfort though. I have factory installed light on left strut. Can't, and won't change.
  13. Guys at YLOX heard a mayday call from Tecnam Sunday 12 .30 ish . One POB engine out, landing in paddock, Pinnaroo area. Aircraft from Renmark tried to contact but not successful. Heard from Tecnam about half hour later, cancel Mayday Any news?
  14. Must get a Storch. Could fix my too high flairs!
  15. Some previous posts referred to HIGH wing aircraft re position of strut to strip. Obviously your experience is with LOW wing, just to clarify. This is a very good post and great input from instructors. Thanks for starting Thirsty.
  16. Probably just reiterating what has been said but my observation of the problem is that they had two parking areas, Saturdays and Sundays. The Sat group parked in the camping area south of 34 the Sundays to the large parking area to the north, accessible only by bus. It took a good 15 mins to get to your plane and start up, another 5 mins to taxi to 34. This delay from this parking area could have been used to get the south parked planes airborne more quickly (which some did) However a bottle neck occurred which caused the problem. War birds departing first? They take more times on run ups etc so that would delays departures for the following aircraft. I do think that they should have priority, but how to organise this is possibly to announce that they have this priority on the registration papers on arrival. This does not fix the congestion and confusion that there are a mix of light and warbirds jockeying from the southern area and the craft trying to merge from the backtracking aircraft. A worse scenario would have been if 120 was the active runway. My opionion would be to marshal aircraft when ready and give the warbirds priority More experienced members have stated their views which I fully concur.
  17. Have had carby ice a few times now. My method is as taught, run up and Magneto test and check for carby ice at run up rpm, if ice present revs will drop and then increase when heat is turned off. If ice is present I leave the heat on during the taxi or backtrack. I have noticed a couple of times whilst touring, that if the revs start to drop off, the first reaction is to give more throttle, however after a couple of adjustments of the throttle and the revs are still dropping, applying heat rectifies the problem My experiences.
  18. I left about 6th from the air spectacular, which was a great day In the air I heard some commotion at the line up area. Back home I heard that a war bird had an altercation with a Jab on the piano keys. Any reports?
  19. So sad an event. My thoughts go out to all concerned. I can't help but put myself in the same predicament as Des and go over what decisions I may have made if it were me, probably not the only one to do this! Surely a 296 gps or similar would have saved the day or at least not be lost. Terrain alert would have indicated danger and wing leveller would keep you stable, asi, alt, speed, direction all on one page. I do wonder if he had something similar on board. I do a fair bit of long distance touring and this accident shook me up a lot. I carry two gps contraptions and all maps. I have the added comfort in an efis for backup. I guess that if I had an vintage plane these instruments would detract from the visual effect. I also wonder what alt the tops were, which would have had a bearing on my decisions. This disaster should be a wake up call to all pilots. When a very experienced pilot loses it, what does that mean for us relative amateurs?
  20. Loxton aero club charges $14 week shared hanger Went up from $10 this year Good money spinner for the club Unfortunately not near you Hongie, sorry
  21. I may be wrong but..... Just imagine casa wants an audit. Ok we will go through the thousands of files and check Hang on, that will take forever unless we train staff to comply with the order, let's get started with what we have for the time! Blow me down, there's a few Jabs that don't comply. Ground them! Hey Morgan don't seem to be in order. Ground them! Hey Ibis looks dodgy. Ground them! If I ran my business !!!! No reflection on the courteous office staff,it has to be deeper in the building and inherited by the current board
  22. Never touched a thing! Clock is now correct time Stupid iPad
  23. Got confused tonight as my iPad time says 8.17 and iPhone says same as wall clock 7.47 Told a mate flying out to Cairns to make sure he altered his watch, he rang back and said not until next week Do I need to reset time on iPad. Or just wait for another error?
