  1. Hey Jack - Any update on this?? Thanks Chris
  2. There are 2 Trike schools here in Central NSW, Ian - in Orange and Mudgee. Bit far for you to go, but if you (or anyone) wants the contacts, I can post or PM them..
  3. Hey Steve, I'm doing the Gong this weekend as well.. Family birthday party. What track do you take from V1 to Katoomba? Cheers, Chris
  4. We use Zulus - and they are brilliant. The noise attenuation is especially good and bluetooth to phone functions really well; but chops through batteries a bit. Best part is the comfort; they are so light and well padded that you barely know they are on.. (And we are not an agent for them!)
  5. Good clip, Pete... Where did you track from Temora to the Coast? Was there any difference in cruise revs between the 160 and 170 - to stay together? Some say the 170 is a bit quicker... especially with a load on.
  6. Hmmm - Might be less of a problem on 6 cyl, but maybe still a problem nonetheless.. Even 6 cyls dont perform vibration-free in all situations.. I think we need to wonder why Jabiru wont certify or even recommend c/f for any of their engines..

    Brumby A/C

Hi Mick - Good report; thanks. So you have had no issues with your 3300 engine in those 900 hours? Just regular servicing? I ask because apparently Brumby are not using Jab motors any more.. We have 2 3300s and a 2200 with no issues so far, so I wonder why they dont like them.
  8. I've tried a few of the solutions listed here, then a friend lent me his motorcycle air-pad thingy: Airhawk cushion with adjustable air inflation and multiple cells It's just brilliant and can be easily set to suit different weights and sized bums. I do one particular 5 hour flight every 2 weeks - and now have no problem with 'flat-spots'.
  9. Hi.. Good to hear that you guys are moving ahead, despite the challenges that are being thrown at you.. Can you post as early as possible your future events? We'd like to get a few people down there and meet and support you.. Regards Chris
  10. Amazing HF.. Do you have any idea what hp it is making? And how is the consumption - at say 115kts cruise?
  11. Yep reputation counts for a lot... In our case we have been around for less than a year so it takes awhile for reputation to kick in; it has to be earned - you cant push it. But we can give potential students more than 20 names / contacts of current students to chat with.. Between us (2 instructors) we have instructed over 1,200 hours in the air and about 500 hours on ground theory.. We now have students coming 'over the hill' from Sydney and the Blue Mountains - also from Cobar and Dubbo. And we can do accommodation for block training.
  12. We bumped into a J160 owner in Cobar 2 weeks ago. he has his Jab hangered there. He put a 3 blade bolly on late last year, but on the 2nd flight it popped one blade; just about lunged his engine from its mounts and he did a forced landing and wrote off the a/c.. He said Bolly's insurance covered the cost and he bought another second hand J160 - and this time added a Sensenich prop. No problems so far..
  13. Just posted this thread. It's only relevant to iPhone and iPad, but it's all to do with aviation. Hope OZ coverage happens at some stage: http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/avionics-engines-props/104299-new-aviation-app-foreflight.html#post213216 P.S. If you are choosing a phone to use in the air, it has to be NextG to get decent coverage. I've had 3 phones on 3 networks running on flights all around NSW and only Next G gives 90% coverage.. (And I'm not a Telstra reseller..)
  14. Just heard about this Apple app. Seems amazingly comprehensive, but presumably not for Australia as yet. To quote a user: "ForeFlight has VFR charts, IFR charts, approaches and airport info all in one - no more paper! They reload after they expire, they are clear on the screen, you can zoom in and out, and it is easy to navigate quickly between airport info, charts, and approaches. In addition with the GPS and 3G you get moving map and updated weather even at 14,000 feet!" Here is iphone version: And this is ipad version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iVpTcaLHcM&NR=1"
  15. V'good, but not perfect... Here the word 'as' is intepreted as 'altostratus', when it should be just 'as': Overview: Area QNH 11 pm to 2 am area 21: 1026 OVERVIEW: ISOLATED SHOWERS W OF YBTH/YAS/YCOM. SHOWERS FALLING AS SNOW ABOVE 3500FT IN FAR SW. BROKEN LOW CLOUD RANGES/W SLOPES DEVELOPING W OF YORG/KIAN AFTER 11Z. ISOLATED FOG/MIST DEVELOPING AFTER 12Z, CHIEFLY RANGES/W SLOPES. 16. We got tired of taking the wheel spats/fairings off every time we wanted to do a brake adjustment. So did a simple mod with holes drilled on the inside surfaces to allow access to the caliper adjustment bolts with a socket. Works a treat: Just pull each bolt up the same amount - and if you go too far and pads drag a bit, just back them all off a little... 2 minutes a side. Photos here show the result.

    J120 muaw?

Not true - as later posts clarified. This advice came from RAA office, but subsequently proved to have been a misinterpretation. Only J170C and up and J230C and up are certified 600kgs. (+ maybe some earlier series 6s, but dont know for sure..)
  18. Best trick for Jab 2200 and 3300 is to gap the plugs down to 20 thou.. We start em in 0C with no problems..
  19. About as useful as an Army Duck: Neither good in the water nor on the road.. but serves a purpose for a very small number of applications..
  20. Generally only happens with mis-adjustment; i.e. one side's adjustment bolts pulled up more than the other side.
  21. Well said, and I agree 100%. However, as of now, we are required to learn the 'latin' approach to dealing with the Air Services / BoM aviation outputs. Perhaps we should mount a campaign with them to go the Avmet route...
  22. Here is a rough translation of one of the links. (Bet the valve adjuster wasn't the only thing that "heaved in full flight" Jaburu 2200 Engine failure in Portugal A.pdf Jaburu 2200 Engine failure in Portugal A.pdf Jaburu 2200 Engine failure in Portugal A.pdf
  23. Jabiru 160 cost This might give you an idea of the overall cost of operating a $75,000 a/c. Of course, as others have said, the biggest factor is hours; the more it does the lower the hourly cost; that's common sense, I know, but often not projected very accurately. I have this data set up as a formula driven Excel - so that any variable can be changed, including hours - and it calculates the hourly cost. But that file type cant be uploaded here. 24. Any clues on easiest way to import this data in Garmin 495???
