  1. Utterly irresponsible, BUT...... evil grin. Cast me back many years to a couple of trips in military choppers - in a faraway land and time when mr Casa or equivalent didn't get to have a say in such matters.

I'm with you Dazza, nothing like a little competition to keep the others honest. Watch a flurry of development activity if these are a success and they develop a conversion for 4 cyl Jabs:laugh:
  3. Welcome aboard mate, as one aviating Carl to another. RA is appealing isn't it, not only the low cost (well relatively) but also the variety of aircraft and the lack of excessive regulation. Each to his own, but if I were you I would find somewhere to start learning to fly and at least get a few hours under your belt - use someone elses aircraft for those early "arrivals", before getting too deep into choosing an aircraft to build. I come from a GA background but have already changed my ideas of what would be a good aircraft to own, since starting to fly again with RA. Great Eastern is a fantastic event, I'll be going again, even if I have to drive. Cheers Carl
  4. Well I'll be &^%$#@, it worked! I suppose Ian is going; "yes you daft git, I've told you how many times how to do it". Dazza trick is not to use embed code on youtube, just copy the url off the address bar when you have the video up, then click on the little film strip on the toolbar on the reply page of rec flying and paste the url in there.
  5. Yeah the embed thing doesn't always seem to work. Cool video anyhow
  6. Suffice to say I see I'm not the only one who doesn't read the preceding posts properly:laugh:. I really don't think Yenn believes that only Cessna and Vans build LSA's Back to something Nev raised - door opening in flight. Now if I read what he said correctly - no warranties, there is no difference between the two? Must say that hasn't been my experience, admittedly I've only had 2 such incidents, 1 in each type, but whereas the C150 (high) closed easily enough, a PA28 proved next to impossible to pull closed, despite varying speeds and slipping toward the door. Admittedly the effect of flying with the door open was similar (minor but noisy and windy). I did a bit of thinking about my experience and later discussed it with an experienced instructor - thinking is that the difference in air pressure between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing accounts for the differing forces needed to close the door. On a similar point, I'll admit to a prejudice against the flimsier variety of tilting bubble canopies, I really don't fancy the possibility of the thing flexing open and been torn off, as has happened before - at least a slider has a fixed roll bar of some description, just ahead of your noggin which should offer some protection, roll-over and by securing the forward portion of the screen in flight. That aside I'm happy to fly aircraft with wings in most configurations - haven't had the biplane pleasure as yet but am hoping to correct that shortly.
  7. Jack, I reckon you're coming at this from the wrong angle - there is nothing very rational about aircraft ownership for the majority of people, it is emotionally driven and I suspect that the decision making process re configuration is no different (tongue lodged firmly in cheek) As to the Sling, I've been keeping a close eye on developments - seems to me the manufacturers are being quite conservative in their marketing, for example they are being quite choosy about overseas agents which will probably serve them well in the long run. If they can deliver on pricing and performance I think they have a winner. Back to the emotion thing again - the D6 Sling "just looks right" imo. 8. I occasionally curse my name when I have to spell it for the 10th time in a day, however a quick thought about these unfortunate people soon cures that complaint. Sister had a Tracey Bone (T bone) in her class, I went to uni with a girl by the name of Cockhead (the aformentioned rooster). She insisted on it being pronounced as written and was most put out at our graduation, when for decorum sake it was announced as "Co-head". Yep believe it or not have come across the Nuss family, sons were named Paul and Anton. I never could work out whether their mother had done it on purpose or it was an unfortunate accident.
  9. Advice; enjoy yourself and think of the rest of us poor suckers stuck at home! Take lots of photos and post them here. Seriously though, give yourself some leeway for weather etc, 4-5 days from Broome could get awfully tight and gethereitis is sadly often a fatal disease.
  10. Couple of photos here to remember them by.... F-111s on Gold Coast: Pigs do fly - Photo Gallery | Gold Coast Bulletin - Australia | goldcoast.com.au
  11. Ouch! Reading that and seeing the news last night makes me realise why my distant ancestors packed their bags and headed for warmer climes.
  12. Hi fillerup, welcome aboard - good to see yet another Boonah pilot joining in here.
  13. Welcome aboard mate, hope you're not packing in this flying lark? Rather move your ad to the member classifieds, it will get better exposure there, including from non members who do a "planes for sale search". There has been quite a bit of interest in amphibious aircraft recently so I would expect you'll get some calls. Not familiar with the aircraft, is it a trike or 3 axis? Photos? Cheers Carl
  14. I read 4 will be put on static display, the rest will be scrapped. There was a tender request earlier this year for the disposal. I reckon you're right about mothballing them, wouldn't put anything past those loons.:black_eye:
  15. well it seems it's finally here, Friday we see the last hurrah of this incomparable beast. Program of events here: Pigs Tales :: Program Coincidentally I'll be on leave on Friday so murphy willing I'll be stationed somewhere along the intended flightpath to wave my goodbyes.
  16. Thanks for sharing, really sorry I didn't know that was coming up. Now for Friday's flypast
  17. Uh, to get back to where we started; Dave in case you didn't get to find a P96 Golf spec sheet, here's what mine says: Std empty weight 281kg MTOW 544kg VNE 145kt VNO 110kt VA 81kt Flaps max 60kt Best rate 60kt Best angle 55kt Best glide 60kt approach 60kt Stall flap 0 39kt Stall flap 40 33kt Max canopy open 80kt Fuel 70l Cheers Carl The Golf is the low wing thingy in my avatar
  18. Great idea!:thumb_up::thumb_up:
  19. http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/ajc/swf/blueangels/blueangels.swf Some nice video of a ride in an F/A-18 - I found scene 2 rather amusing.
  20. Here's a slightly different take on the theme - looks as though some unsuspecting Kitfox clone had its wings clipped!
  21. You're very likely right Frank, still some of the best flying I've had was in (on?) a 503 powered trike, crisp still air, mist still lying in the valleys. Right back to basics. One thing that does concern me about the older gyros is the possibility that the "buzz" may be the sound of your tail end fluttering as it passes your ear while you go end over end! Aside from creature comforts, those in the know tell me there have been big advances in aerodynamics and handling.
  22. No Mate, provided you know firsthand, or from a credible source, that the various issues mentioned are factual - I don't think that your comment is unduly harsh; after all every preventable accident has a potential impact on our freedom to fly as we do. My thoughts remain with those left behind though.
  23. Minor diversion, but does anyone have any details re the F-111 flypasts next weekend? I was due to be away, but turns out I'm around and at a loose end. Lunch out side Amberley anyone?
  24. Hey Tomo, sounds like an interesting experience, enjoy and I look forward to a full report and lots of photos on your return. Cheers Carl
