1. Geez Darky, no half measures with you - looks more like an emu strike than an eagle. You're obviously back in one piece, that as always is the main thing. Give us the story when you've settled the nerves.

Introducing the KR

Very pretty example seen at Watts Bridge;
4. Wow, that's a lot of work there - interesting design. Doors (?), BK117 for one.
5. I'll gladly pay $20 for access to somewhere like that, they're hardly getting rich out of the few arrivals weekly considering grass cutting, insurance cover etc. Aircraft arrivals are hardly their core market, Orchid Beach is a 4x4, fishing destination on Fraser Island for those not familiar with the territory. Back to the original point though, that one is very much on the bucket list - as a bonus it isn't a million miles from Rainbow Beach and DI Point as shown in cscotthendry's recently posted video.
6. Spectacular video Scott, love that part of the world, although I see now that I have missed out by not visiting by air - yet! I'll second what you say about beach landings, just like any other on an unpaved surface, you need to assess what you're going to roll your wheels on. In the case of beach landings it probably doesn't do any harm to have driven on sand either, helps you to assess the surface. Somewhere like Rainbow Beach is ideal too because there will almost certainly be wheel tracks on the surface that will allow you to see how soft the sand is.
7. Here's another one; Before the storm, Seawind at Coolangatta
8. I've posted links to Jan & Jacynth's photo essays before, pretty serious eye candy for lovers of remote areas of the planet. AvCom • View topic - DUGONGS & DHOUWS
9. I'll second what Mazda said about Heck Field, there is no hangarage but plenty of place to tie down outside for a few days, it is pretty secure too with an on site manager. See Gold Coast Sport Flying Club Inc - South East Queensland's Premier Light Aviation Location - Heck Field JCW Jacobs Well YJCW . I haven't flown in to Tyagarah (north of Byron) but a quick recce from the road looked very pleasant - seems to be quite an active parachuting drop zone, there was a Caravan in and out when I was there.
10. Very nice Rudi, whereabouts was no.2 taken?

12. Looks good Ian, any word on what's happening with last month's competition?
13. Welcome Will, you've got yourself a real classic there. With a bit of luck someone here will be able to give you some pointers. Regards Carl
14. Hey Martin, I was wondering how the import process was going - please keep up the updates, I'm sure that I'm not the only one watching closely and forever recalculating the price in AUD of the latest Barnstormers aeroporn:laugh: Cheers Carl
15. Geez Gents, some beauties there, I really enjoyed Rudix' clouds and mountains scenic view. I'm not sure whether Tomo is going to reopen for submissions, closing date was the 24th and he has already put a lot of work into compiling the calendar. Suggestion though, if not, why don't you enter these into the monthly photo competition? Last month's entries were fairly thin on the ground so let's start this month with a charge!
16. Thanks for weighing in Bob, I always worry that interesting as it is to discuss these what-ifs, I wouldn't like some poor aircraft owner to come to big brother's notice because we had a casual interest in the matter.
17. Sounds like a good outcome in the circumstances, rather before landing than just after take off, with a full load. A bit off topic here, but what's with the "ditching" in a paddock, I know it was supposed to be a bit damp but I thought ditching was dropping the whole contraption into a body of water, not just a forced landing? I saw another report recently where an aircraft crashed into trees, but you guessed it, some of the media had it ditching again. Where are the old time sub-editors when you need them?
18. Sometimes google is your friend, but no ownership info comes up when I search. For myself, I would be a little wary of bringing this up with RA Aus, unless there is more weight than a seat and seatbelt that you can strip out of a 150, I can't see how they can register one at 544kg, all that will happen is the current owner is likely to get a please explain when re-registration comes around. I imagine trying to reverse to a GA registration would be a nightmare:black_eye:. Unfortunately there seem to be a few funnies lurking on the register - potentially very expensive ornaments for your shed unless/until we get a higher weight limit.
19. cficare I agree up to a point, although I did conduct an impromptu experiment during my RA conversion. After being pulled up a few times for underestimating the glide performance of the Tecnam on PFL's, the inevitable happened and I ended up with a powerline bisecting my aiming point during the next one. In a real failure I would have considered ducking under, but suspected that wouldn't go down well with he who inhabited the rhs, so I reduced flap from full to t/off setting and low and behold the wires promptly dropped down the windscreen and I cleared them safely, reapplying full flap as I went overhead. Given that I was already in a glide, dumping drag flap to a reduced, mostly lift setting didn't give any discernable increase in sink rate, even momentarily.
20. This one? Looked like a nice aircraft. I suspect it's one of those questions that you really don't want to ask:laugh:, I haven't got a POH with me, but internet references say between 447 and 504kg empty weight, which leaves uh, shall we say very little for pilot and a few drops of fuel at the current RA mauw.
21. Some of those pics have been doing the rounds via email, strange setup, imagine going to Mr CASA and saying - "I've got this great new location for an airport, we'll just have to put traffic lights and maybe a set of boomgates on the M1!" As someone said the other day, we accept all kinds of weird things just because they are familiar and established, they reckoned that asprin would never have been approved as a medicine if it were discovered today. The example of the modern motor vehicle was also mentioned - 1-2 ton projectiles with a combined speed of 220km/h, passing within 1/2 a metre of each other at times and controlled by minimally trained operators, a percentage of whom will be drug affected, fatigued, ill or suffering PMS at any one time.:ah_oh:
22. Welcome aboard mate, glad to hear your mishap had a good outcome. There is a fair amount of info on the site about Jab engines and their foibles, so you have probably come to the right place. Had to google your aircraft type, very nice!
23. Ditto, sounds like a great experience. We need pics though!
24. Sorry no, but break out the champagne, a new airfield in the face of the closures and threatened closures is something to celebrate.
