  1. get another opinion. 40 yrs ago dad and I learnt in our own vh plane, but it had to be put in air work caterogory and insured/ maintained for same, plus nominated instructor, no trouble. must be different now.
  2. pull start, you guys .had pull starts???, bob an I had to prop start ours and an outboard squeeze bulb primer. oh them were the days, aviation illiterate/ignorant, dono which, prob both, reinventing the wright bros, every flight an experiment , interspersed with moments of shear terror, heart stopping, pylon racin , guardian angels musta nearly went on strike , thankyou God they didn't, an then I met JIM.
  3. hi jim , looking for your old drifter eh! want to have another go with the pliers again, eh!

actualy had a gent ring today wanting to buy our Cessna call sign ,(only the 4th in 20yrs) suited his business name he said . how much is a call sign ?????? and how much to replace? only the better half says NO.
  5. 3rd time post , I keep losing it on this dam computer, there was a design by stevens and gunders in the late 70s called the skyskooter which could be adapted for amphibious use. I built a land base one in 1982, which I flew somewhere over a 1000 hrs before the aircraft retired itself from lack of use. flew somewhat like a drifter, although the spoilerons made for a slow roll rate , but more than made up by the effective rudder. still have the airframe in our hanger gathering dust, powerd by robbin 440 with reduction drive pusher. was however originaly a direct drive, which was VERY noisy, and limited in performance. will post a picture when the better half helps me.
  6. back in 1982 I built what was called a skyskooter, a variation of this aircraft, designed by stevens and and gunders (no plans as such, just buy the materials and build from their ideas) in the late 70's during the "" scout"" days. flew somewhat over a 1000 hrs in mine before the aircraft retired from lack of use. I still have the airframe in my hanger. another was built by gunders uncle near Bundaberg. flew somewhat like a drifter , although spoilerons made for a slow roll rate, but rudder more than compensated for. would have a photo on file but don't know how to post
  7. yas , next time betsy an I shall wear our Victorian era costumes, getin off the aerial stagecoach . now there's an idea, fancy dress flyin. m61A1 an his missus looked quite the picture.
  8. for an older aircraft please check a thorough sids was done , ask to see the log books and work sheets, or if not done , allow for it in the price.
  9. we are farmer / graziers in southern qld and gradually destocked as the dry developed, but still seem to have too many. long term droughts just cant be planned for and still have an income but costs still go up . on a positive note for Christmas my good wife gave me an envelope for a present. upon opening it was a receipt for a donation on our behalf to drought angels the joy I felt of this present to others in more desperate need than us, was indescribable. way to go drought angels
  10. graham is the Jimbour house fly in now on 17 jan 2016, if so could be a few locals come.
  11. home now but will get dad to check it out when he's well enough . he had heard of this strip some years ago but he never found it either
  12. thank you all , checked out the burrum hds, one but found locked gate, and neighbours thought it no longer used , the beelbee crk road one no longer exsist and same with toogoom island one. shall continue to drive up , just thought a strip would be usefull in the event of medical urgency
  13. we have a couple of ailing parents at toogoom north of hervey bay, and was wondering if the there was any private airstrip nearby for to come visit them, that may allow us to land.

  16. yeah I have already seen a western based tecnam with nasty corrosion beginning, and there ain't much metal thickness there to do remedial work to start with

  18. oh , and remember that the sids programme is ongoing after the first major disassembly ,clean up,remedial one. it's possible that by end june 2016 (for private use airframes) that up to half the older Cessna fleet may be grounded, due non compliance, not passing the initial sids. there is some sad planes out there, I've seen em, just look for corrosion worms under the paint, derivet that area and a horror story is exposed. many will be/are being parted out for scrap, so buy at a price that reflects the work to do.

  20. we are currently putting our 172 back together in the sids programme. very little remedial work has been needed, however the work involved dismantling/ cleaning and VERY close inspection/testing of EVERYTHING, has involved 4 wks of full time work so far, with the maintainence organization, means a BIG labour bill alone. (several 182's being worked on beside ours have needed substantial remedial / corrosion repairs done in addition), and I would be VERY suspect of a Cessna sids done with a cheap bill.(not done properly in my opinion), under 20,000 unless the owner did a lot of the work under supervision. expect 6 weeks labour cost by $100 hr x 240 hrs(without repairs needed, which is rare) = $24000 min
