  1. Actually Phil, Neither Holden or Ford fan mate, much prefer the Japanese brands for the quality & finish. Have a Xtrail TD & a BT 50 TD these days had a couple of the Aussie brands early on and learnt my lesson. And with the modern youth analogy I never found that with my 4 kids when they were teenagers other than yes they were expensive to keep, the rest is how you bring them up from the infant stage. Cheers Alf
  2. I got over a 1000hrs behind mine so you have a bit of catching to do And yep the circus is in town and its located in a place called Bundaberg
  3. This might explain the good one Alf Your brand the infant, it requires constant care & babying, nurturing & pampering, doesn't like the heat, sh!ts itself on a more regular basis without much warning and needs changing out quite often. My brand the teenager , takes the bumps, bruises, & heat in its stride, just give it a feed and it will play all day and passes a lot of gas out of its bottom without any of its internals wanting to follow. What do you recon, sums it up pretty well. Alf
  4. Maybe we should start calling yours an infant & mine a teenager Alf
  5. Obviously proves one thing, us non Jabiru engine owners are far better maintainers than you lot because we got a darn sight more engines out there worldwide than the 6000 Jabiru engines and we have a far less failure rate. Or it could be ours costs more because you get what you pay for. Damn that's 2 things:doh:
  6. And got some of you back on the ground quicker than you wanted to be, and blamed you for it also. Alf
  7. What are we all going to be like IF Jabiru ever get these things right, we will be bored old & young men on here with nothing to b!tch about. Now tell us about your hernia Biggles, we seem to have covered most things in this thread. Alf
  8. Actually Nev, I wouldn't say run quite hot, they actually run closer to the design parameters running with Evans NPG waterless coolant, when I went with Evans in my Tecnam as with my trike the water temp went up to about 9o deg compared to 60 with the 50/50 glycol, Rotax recommends 90 deg the normal operating temperature, most of them run way too cool. Out of coolant well can't answer that, but if need be I would run it until it stopped to get me out of a bad terrain situation if I got myself in to that situation. I have flown out of Yarrawonga on a 37 deg day at almost max gross weight full song to 8500ft to cross the divide and the coolant temp never got out of the green as the same with the oil temp, mind you they were both close to the top of the green but never the less they never got out of it and that was with the Evans in it. Alf
  9. I was incorrect, I believe he had 1 lesson I was informed today which counts for 0 when you think of it.
  10. Tiger Moth wrecked by non experienced person operating an aircraft I am hearing. Flown over this so called strip, very short, narrow and uneven surrounded by canola. Grumblings going on around here is person has had no flight training whatsoever, guess time will tell if the rumour mill is correct.
  11. And you assume the modern twin is giving 100% power as per quoted performance figures, and the airframe is like it was when it came out the shop, and your not overloaded, and yes you the main reason for it crashing fly's it as perfectly possible to the book quoted figures. Lot of variables there Nev. Me I would rather the single up front any day to a twin on take off, well an old piston twin that is when the engine fails, only got one thing to concentrate on then. Alf
  12. pmccarthy, I probably should have explained my meaning a bit more thorough, yes we fly similar performance aircraft to a warrior or 172 but we don't fly at night (or we shouldn't), most of us don't fly in bad weather or under IFR rules like GA ect, we don't fly twins which some of after an engine failure won't stay in the air. All I was getting at is compared to GA we don't seem to have the number of fatality's after engine failure compared to GA. We seem to kill more from being stupid. Alf
  13. Engines don't kill people no matter what brand they are Pilots kill themselves through stupid decision making, bravado and the false sense of security that it won't happen to them as it always happens to someone else Possibly a lot never practice any emergency drills between BFRs and when the pressure is on in a real life scenario they don't handle it well You will probably find more people have died from non engine related issues of late I should make reference to our type of flying not GA or commercial as a few if them have passed over through EFATO Alf
  14. No 2tonne Fly all aircraft according to the POH and you won't stall & spin My Tecnam has a lower approach speed and lower stall speed than most Jabs The higher performance you go the more complex the aircraft becomes and the further ahead of the plane you have to be alf
  15. But Deb, There is a generalization demonstration of them stopping on a fairly regular basis compared to others, so the facts on this matter at hand are not really pointless. Alf
  16. Correct Andy, without the human element we don't have planes, engines or death from them.
  17. Deb, I would say yes but not the engines fault, geez my old trike a Rotax 912 was involved in a fatal recently but it was pilot error. Not many Rotaxes stop but plenty of pilots flying kill themselves without the engine failing from being lax or stupid. You guys with Jabs are fortunate to have a very good survival cell, by god it's been tested plenty of times when the engines have stopped. Next Question? Alf
  18. Turbs, Quite a few of those RIP's have been from sheer stupidity, Trike flying from Temora to Cootamundra in the dark hitting a tree & a windmill killing 2, Pioneer near Kerang or there abouts doing a beat up collecting a swer wire between a shed and a house killing 2, (30 odd hrs experience in that pilot but the deceased's brother in law said he was safe (yeah right), the sting near Goulburn was an engine failure but the pilot drove it in to the paddock,. Yes there have been a few but there aren't too many associated with Jabiru after an engine failure. Alf
  19. Fill ya boots JetR. We've all seen a lot of Jabaroos have engine problems, I don't like the engine but love the airframe
  20. It should be a survey conducted by an independent not the factory, to easy to come up smelling of roses if you bury the unhappy owners Alf
  21. A sad day for another family, RIP fellow aviator
  22. Ok Sorry Jabiru Phil, Not all owners, Was a bit of an oversight on my behalf Alf
