  1. The only pucker factor I found in my 760hrs in trikes was taxiing on the ground in a stiff breeze especially xwind, bit like a motorbike, unstable standing still but stable moving, trike stable and fully controllable in the air and vulnerable on the ground in the wind, joys of having a big wing area and a light weight.
  2. Could be anything, valve, Flywheel bolts who knows, just proved another point if your going down that's the plane to increase your odds of surviving in.
  3. Teckair, Each to their own, I have over 760hrs in a trike before turning to the dark side, the trike is as others have said as safe if not safer than some aircraft. The weak link is not the trike its the pilot flying it. Yep there have been a few trike accidents of late but none of them would not have been the trikes fault. 2 dead at Cootamundra a few years back, flying in the dark and hitting a windmill will do that too you, ferry flight with floats strapped to the side of it and an engine out, yep dead in a quarry, pilot ferrying a new trike back from Airbornes factory, incapacitated resulting in a death, my old trike I sold to a fellow stalled turning final, to low and to slow and too tight a turn, resulted in the loss of his life, not the trikes fault and that is just to name a few. Just as many deaths in 3 axis and very rarely the aircrafts fault. Alf
  4. Valid point Dutchy, I'd trust a single pilot more than your cabin crew, as you may have 1 in 5 or so people wanting an out, instead of just a flight crew, just saying
  5. Not much difference in the state of mind I'd say Dazza with people committing suicide by train, they see the train & not the poor fella driving it, either this bloke seen a way out and went for it not thinking of the pax, or thought well they will remember my name from now on won't they. Easier to work with a tiger, all it wants to do is eat you and that's all you have to worry about, Humans well that's another story. you never know what a human will do next.
  6. Actually rankamature, I know Laurie quite well, he is a local in my area so just a little in house joke mate. You just remember to land in to the wind seen as though your a rankamature
  7. Been a couple of years Lauire so it may well be 30 for the pitch, some how I was thinking it was 45 but there you go I may be wrong . Just checked Laurie in the Airborne manual, pitch is not to exceed 45 deg up or down, angle of bank is 60 deg.. Alf 1 nil
  8. Andy, the dreaded "hey watch me"................kill myself trick Apparently from what I have been told about the person who died in my old trike last year, he was low & slow and increased his angle of bank more than 60deg most likely and stalled the inner wing while turning final. Trikes are not supposed to climb or descend at angles greater than 45 deg & no angles of bank exceeding 60 deg
  9. Either a structural issue Maj or being an idiot, not much else to choose from. There are a few scenarios that could put you in that, too slow in a tight turn and the inner wing stalling and tucking you under, negative g manoeuvres, and whip stalls which usually results in a tumble and certain death, well actually all 3 usually result in death, there would be some more out there but can't think of them at the moment. Alf
  10. Well being spiralling and part way upside down for whatever reason there was no way this guy was not going to hit sea level in a trike. Lets hope it was a structural issue not a pilot induced one as to get it in the so called situation as described in the media report takes some bad airmanship.
  11. Gandalph Going by the amount of shots fired at Martin place I'm surprised anyone got out alive.
  12. Well Tim your grammar isn't to bad on the above, just proves your improving each day and the book has done you good in many ways. The only grammar mistake unless I'm wrong in the above is you spelt grammer. Alf
  13. I haven't read it yet Tim but going by the bits you put in on here it already rates a 10/10, anything on flying adventures rate quite high for me as I don't read much more than aviation stuff these days, only 9 more days at work and I will get my hot little hands on it. Alf
  14. Damn Windsor and I thought I was the only special one lol
  15. Soon all commercial pilots will have to have to have a catheter & a colon bag as a pre requisite for the job. Not much you can do other than have a 3rd pilot in first class for rest room breaks, even then a pilot hell bent on doing himself in and taking the passengers with him will find some way to do it.
  16. Every chance the PIC became incapacitated after the other pilot left the cockpit & fell forward enough to knock the auto pilot off and did a decent until impact, I guess the voice recorder will clarify if the PIC was talking or there was deathly silence in the cockpit other that the other pilot bashing on the door, if there was talk from the pic I would guess suicide, if no talking well anything is possible. Alf
  17. Tis just the way it is, we are not all the same thank the goodness for that as life would be very boring if we were all the same. Who gives a hoot if the proof reader missed a couple, at least he offered to do his best for flyerme, bet Tim didn't have a hundred of us filling his inbox with offers to proof read it for him. (I for one didn't and sorry about that Tim) Even the worlds best editors of the glossy magazines & newspapers cQck up. I make a few spelling errors and frankly don't give two hoots, if it bugs people don't read my posts as I sure won't lose sleep over it. I'm with Jab Phil, once you get in to reading a chapter of two your in to it or you should be, if your picking up on spelling mistakes maybe you should be reading Cleo or Woman's day magazines. Alf
  18. Phil, Sounds like he was an accident waiting to happen, and guess what?, it did. Alf
  19. Don't overload the Nieuport on the way to Loxton Timmy, she isn't a Hercules lol, awesome response so far on the book
  20. March 14th, Annual finally signed off and BFR done same day. Nice to get back out with my instructor doing the BFR, nice steep turns, nice stalls nice forced landings, short field & soft field and the rest they throw at you, good to be back in the air, love the throttle closed just after rotation as it keeps you senses alert and you on your toes. Hadn't flown since December which would be a record for me in the last 10 years. Today was a good day, plane back in the air, me back in the air and the rego was back within a week so it doesn't get much better than that. No guessing what I will be up to tomorrow morning Alf
  21. Well I am a happy camper with the turnaround of a week for my registration renewal. Good job RAA office, keep up the good work. Alf
  22. Mike, My point exactly in all of my previous posts about this , he may have not done it 100% but he did enough to survive with a combination of some skill & some luck, yeah he hit hard in the end but that may have had something to do with the tree he supposedly hit prior to reaching the ground. Point is we were not in his situation so how we all would have handled it would be different, some of us might be dead, some of us might have walked away with no damage to oneself or the plane, some of us might have a broken ankle & pelvis like HF but he survived in reasonable shape for a 72 year old and that is all that matters. Alf
  23. Fair call Richard That's the beauty of us all being human and having different opinions No offence taken
  24. Richard, Actually I practice simulated ones fairly regular, also stalls and lots of other things I used to do in my training & for what it is worth mate I don't just plod along fat dumb & happy when I fly, I actually fly quite disciplined. I don't quite know what to make of your comment above? I think my flying skills are above average, one thing I do have is I don't tend to panic much in life, I look at when there is a problem that arises in my life not to ponder on it but to deal with it. And yes I hope myself I don't have an engine failure soon either but the overall outcome of it all if I do will be from my own decision making won't it as will it be yours, then you can give it your all on the outcome whether good or bad. Alf
