  1. Great, I'm actually taking the MIL to NZ this April, she is going to visit some distant relo's while wifey & I are going on a campervan holiday, not sure if I will purchase a return ticket for her yet. For quite a long-time a long time ago when I used to cringe and kiss her goodbye I used to pass the comment, "Marie your the second ugliest thing I have kissed today", this went on for a quite a few months when she finally said to me " Well if I am the second ugliest thing you have kissed today, who is the ugliest"?, my reply was, well haven't come across the ugliest yet. From then she called me @sshole, and that was 32 years ago and we still have that beautiful relationship still going. I might buy her a return ticket actually as he isn't a bad old bird to put up with the stuff I have given her over the years.
  2. DingerPPC, Doesn't matter what you fly mate once those feet leave the earth we all share the same brotherhood & feeling.
  3. Teckair, They do these things because they don't think it will happen to them, it always happens to someone else, problem is you surname can change to someone else when pushing the boundaries, we are all human, humans make mistakes and costly ones at that. Alf
  4. Channel 9's latest news report says they have found it, net result not good news for the pilots family
  5. It's ok Stoney, your one of us now, just took you a little longer than most to realise your inner dream to come true:cheers:
  6. Apparently from about the age of 3 my mother said I would leave the dinner table anytime I heard a light plane, would watch it until I couldn't see it any longer, all my pocket money earnings from my childhood paper round was spent on flying magazines & model planes. Always had a fascination with light aircraft and no interest in jets or airliners. At 22 married with a couple of kids I started flying lessons at YLTV, did about 21hrs with 8 of that solo before we had the recession we had to have apparently in 1987 so it got shelved again until 2004 when I took up trike flying, 2 different trikes, 8 years and 760hrs later I then went back to the dark side & got my RAA conversion, hired a J160 until I bought my Tecnam Sierra 2 years ago and now over 250hrs in 3 axis I still love flying. What do I like about it, nothing I love it the ultimate feeling of freedom and the view, ohhhh the view, still amazes me every time I look out along the slender wings and wonder how that invisible force is keeping me suspended above mother earth. I fly because I can and can afford it, I'm not a boozer or a gambler other than lotto so I have to spend money on other things than the wife, kids & grandkids
  7. Nev, The Bing carburettor is quite common actually, was used on the BMW motorcycles before fuel injection, Rotax also has 2 carbs feeding 2 pots so I am gathering a far better fuel distribution than the other. The only reason Rotax would stop building engines was if they continually delivered a sub standard product & the public revolted against them (can't see that happening in the near future) I want Jab to be successful don't get me wrong. Alf
  8. It's all a bad dream Mike, some one told me its 2015, huh??? only a few years ago it was the millenium
  9. By continuing to rape & pillage the public Dazza like they have done and will continue to do so no matter what party is in. Only one winner here and that is the government. What should happen is when a party screws up all their entitlements like superannuation should be taken, we need to make pollies more accountable.
  10. jetr, Rotax have almost 10 times the amount of 912's flying worldwide compared to jabiru, So yes they may have the same failure rate as Jab currently, but you put 50,000 Jabiru engines out there and then make a comparison, Rotax is far more sturdy and reliable than your Jabiru engine, and if you can't see that your dreaming
  11. 1000% correct Downunder, they don't give 1 fire truck about us at all, only what they can get out of it. As for selling assets, yep Kennett got us out of the red & into the black selling the Victorian Electricity Commission and promised cheaper electricity, yeah that's worked about 300% increase, now instead of having one GM, Dept GM, accountants ect down the line (SECV) we have about 20+ of each with all the electricity company providers, still comes from the same power stations that were making money, but we are still the ones that get penetrated when the government runs out of money after they have sold the asset. Blaaah Humbug.
  12. I'd call it a death stall, that's what the end result was
  13. Obviously a decent company compared to others out there, good to see they paid out all the staff the entitlements they were owed before closing shop. Most get so far in hock they declare themselves bankrupt and the liquidators pay everyone else out before the staff. Sad to see something like this happen. Alf
  14. Wish I could translate it, would be a good read
  15. 3 most important things I was taught in learning to fly were airspeed, airspeed & airspeed in no particular order
  16. About a millisecond to recover from that height Damn waste of 2 lives and that of a once nice plane All for the sake of a few photos, is it worth the return? I'd say not but we can't turn back time
  17. Well Bex, You may think you have control of your own destiny in your car or on your bike, but you just don't have control over that idiot coming the other way texting on his/her phone ect
  18. Between 3,000 to 4,000 people die on average every year worldwide in all forms of aviation including military, 1.4 million die worldwide in motor vehicle accidents. Flying is still safer than driving. Alf

  22. In nil wind Laurie about 56 seconds, I quite frankly like the 2nm a minute almost.
  23. Totally safe, even the 6 cylinder wouldn't get it off the deck
  24. Jetjr, You are correct my friend there is a risk in flying no doubt but a far less risk than driving on the roads these days so I wouldn't be too worried about taking your family in it, your aircraft has a proven very well designed safety cell far better than anything on the market without question. You have had a great run it seems as do others with your Jabiru and others have not and you have a right to defend your aircraft, others just haven't been so lucky and been stiffed so to speak, there just isn't enough consistency in them at the moment. But the engine as you seem to agree is not a robust as the Rotax which is a fair call. Once if ever these issues eventually get sorted Jabiru will then be the best value LSA on the market no doubt, but until the factory decide to get their head out of the sand and allow Ian Bent or others make reasonable improvement to them it is just going to keep going around in circles I think. Cheers Alf
