  1. Na Bob Alf is at home until the 21st and enjoying this awesome rain that ruins his flying. Maj, Glad you got to meet up with Laurie, real good knacker with a real passion for aviation and a regular visitor down our way
  2. Phil I can't see why we sent you back to the mother land You should come back as the damp and dinge is getting to you over there Please when you come back pack as many 50 gram Bakkie pouches as you can 18 quid seems a bargain for we are paying the best part of 50 bucks a pouch these days Just don't pack them in a cavity that will change your profile or alter your floating waste tube as I really would hate it to jam up as it could bring you down quite quick and also ruin the Bakkie Cheers Alf
  3. Condolences to the family & friends of this pilot. Looks like a Sonex from a Ch 9 report and not a lot a damage going by the looks of it.
  4. Just proves no matter how experienced you are you can get caught out like the rest of us mere mortals, only damage done is some pride and some wallet damage.
  5. Barryco Tiger country means only tigers should be living down there Inhospitable terrain, places you don't really want to be force landing in, bush and lots of it with limited if any options
  6. Glad you sorted it out Bill now you don't have to retrofit the 1000lt ferry tank
  7. Got me there brother Bes to send a msg to Bas Scheffers
  8. That's deg min min Bill Think oz is in deg min sec format
  9. Oscar Im passing comment on no matter how hard or how many rules come to us people will keep killing themselves in whatever they do. Rec flying is safe as far as I'm concerned, not one plane, PPG or trike hasn't crashed in the last 30 months without the help of the human input Aircraft are the safe bet, pilots are the dangerous part of the equation
  10. Death is a part of life, just depends on your actions to how soon you end up dead Every one dies in the end As long as mine and your @sses keep pointing to the ground people are going to keep on dying in all sorts of crashes/ accidents including aviation No one goes out with the intent on dying on a particular day pursuing their hobby or their job but it happens quiet regulary and you and I cannot stop it We can preach all we like, we can bring in all the rules in the world but people will keep breaking them and keep on making poor decisions and keep up ending up dead Only way to maybe curb a lot of these is look after yourself only by being smart in whatever you do and avoid being careless as any of us can be that someone else
  11. Also when that sweep back has a thing called a floating cross tube connected to the main spar usually where the wires or the struts join on the leading edge that crosses across the keel, it is meant to float and not be restricted, it floats for a reason like to allow billow ect in the sail Alf
  12. Hit the nail on the head Nev. If designed for it, like i said yet to see a placard on a trike wing saying storage locker in here. Alf
  13. I wouldn't do it in any trike wing, a wing is designed to be a wing, if it was designed to carry gear the manufacturers would have made provisions for it. Alf
  14. Andy, I am just saying it is not a good practice to store stuff in the wing, I have never seen a trike wing with the word store your camping gear in here in the wing, I don't care if instructors do it or not they can die just as easy as a mere mortal No it's not an instant death either its when you turn and it jams you floating cross tube it's just a lovely turn your not going to get out of until you hit the deck then you may have either an instant death or maybe a slow one or you might just be plain lucky and survive it. Bit like chancing scud running all the time, you may get away with it a lot of times but eventually your going to get bitten. Each to their own, for those who do it and read this what I have wrote at least you will be on this clueless persons mind wishing you hadn't of stored this stuff in your wing as your heading for the deck and most probably for certain demise Cheers Clueless
  15. Andy, Stuffing camping gear in to the Trikes wing is a very good way to end up on this forum for the very wrong reasons. The wing is designed as a wing not a storage space, jam the floating cross tube or alter the profile of the wing and well......you will see what happens. If anyone on here is foolish enough to cart stuff in your trikes wing thinking it's a great thing to do " it's not You have been warned. Alf
  16. I stand corrected it was an Arrow wing
  17. Gnarly Gnu, Batten tips are rods at the extreme end of a flexwing, they run on a 45 roughly inboard from the rear trailing edge to the front spar tube about hmm 10" or so in on the main spar, they are used to allow for washout at the end of the wing so the outer wing won't stall before the root of the wing, the other battens that run from leading edge to trailing edge in a straight line profile the wing. I think the dude was going for his chute in the video Alf
  18. Richard & Peter stuck in Cobar, fog all morning then solid overcast at 300 ft. Poor blokes are busting their gut to get home after this accident but are making great decisions. Alf
  19. Richard & Peter are safe in Cobar tonight
  20. Guys, FYI, Richard Tabaka & Peter Schmidt (Ray's close friends) just departed Innamincka at 07:25 S.A time, heading for Tibboburra then working their was east towards Cobar as the winds are more favorable the farther south they head, forecast for straight east was once again against them. Wishing them safe travels Alf
  21. Children, Play nice please, everyone has an opinion whether it is right or wrong, even if someone is wrong they may think they are right that's what makes the world go round. Turbo is a valued formunite with valuable info passed on over the years even if he isn't right on some things. FYI, Ray Jacksons mates Richard & Peter are still here, couldn't get away from Innamincka due to a pain in the @ss headwind, would have left them with under 6 litres fuel remaining if they tried for Thargomindah. (closest fuels stop) in their direction Good decision making I thought, who says trike pilots are cowboys?? They are pilots like the rest of us. Alf
  22. This latest one was a SST according to Richard Tabaka whom I was speaking with in person tonight at Innamincka who was Rays senior instructor
  23. Guys, Just a little bit of info. I just met Richard Tabaka and his mate at Innamincka after they landed, Ray was supposed to catch up with them at Alice Springs and have now cut their trip short to get home and are here and will be overnighting, they are devastated at the loss of Ray. As being an ex triker I went up to the airport as I saw a couple of trikes on the strip on my way back in from out in the field I have not me Richard before but knew who it was through viewing the Byron Bay Microlight website over the years, he had quite an astonish look on his face when I said your Richard Tabaka aren't you, I explained to him I knew the face through his website and that I was an ex triker. Just about to print off an area forecast for them for there trip tomorrow (Thargomindah, Cunnamulla & St George) Lets wish them safe travels on their way home. Cheers Alf
  24. Laurie, Looking at the video it looks like he was trying to roll out but it didn't want to play the game, he looked like he was trying to push across to the right side of the A frame initially for a number of seconds then gave up going for his chute. Damn scary to watch that, wouldn't have thought a tip batten could give you so much grief. Alf
