I just replaced my 410G with a new one as it was battery time expired in March just gone Cost me the old one $600 7 years back and this new one $285 complete with bonus hatchet Delisted and destroyed the old one as per the manufactures instruction and registered the new one with AMSA so it was a simple task $285 every 7 years ain't too bad, maybe next replacement will be $100 lol Alf
  2. Yenn, Well you should have seen what it was like years back at Mt Beauty at the annual gathering of moths flyin in. Powered parachutes Trikes, and some 3 axis, rules outlined for everyone, chutes to turn right off 36 away from the runway. Like to hazard a guess how many turned left and crossed the active runway or flew down the centre of 18 while Trikes or 3 axis were on final or in the process of taking off, half of them didn't have radios and half of them didn't have a clue, some were good some were bad, used to have my neck on a swivel Lucky some of us realise we are not 10 ft tall and bullet proof and that thing can happen to us and not someone else I haven't been for a few years now as my roster didn't line up, but hopefully it has improved from the past efforts

  4. hiholand Evans never needs to be replaced, your 80hp and my 100hp have no issues running Evans, I found once I changed to Evans on firstly my Trike and then later on my Tecnam it improved both the cly head temp and the oil temp by raising firstly the cly head temp by 30 degrees and the oil temp by about 10-15 People think it's great when their oil temp when sitting at cruise is below 90 degrees and a lot of times well below 90 degrees, well it is not good, Rotax recommends 90 deg min for oil temp for a reason My Tecnam when it had glycol in it wouldn't go over 70 deg on the cly and less on the oil temp on a standard temp day Now with the Evans the heads are constantly 95-100 and the oil most times 90 deg I flew out of Yarrawonga at max weight on a 37 deg day awhile back climbing to 8500 ft full noise to cross the divide back to West Sale and both the temps never went out of the green, was close to top of the green but never out I' m not changing it back to glycol as running warmer is better than running colder and Evans will run warmer than glycol Alf

Don't know but apparently I used to leave the kitchen table even at dinner time or run outside anytime day or night when I heard a plane at 3 years of age my mother informed me as I got older, not much has changed and I'm currently 53 Have a default mode in my neck called looking up anytime I hear or see a plane Alf
  7. Wish I was still working up around Innamincka Waraton, would have been good to meet you all as I use to stay in the Homestay during my 3 week stints

Pearo, All aircraft are only as safe as the person operating it, stay away from power lines, no beating up or showing off, fly conservative and smart, sound training and continue to practice skills taught to you will give you a great chance of living to a ripe old age, there are plenty of good things to see in aviation but we usually only see the bad stuff from people making bad decisions Alf

Bill I'd say the photo in the Gippytimes is legit of the gong beater before his demise, if not he is 7ft tall and has no meat on his legs as in the photo there is something sticking out towards the back and it ain't body parts Would you like to be toasted before being buttered on both sides??? lol Alf

Bob Guess to the media it will be Cessna in any case so we should just stick to that eh As like you I am from the area but being at work it raised alarm bells as there are plenty of pilots I know down that way, thankfully it is no one I know from what I am hearing At the end of the day the pilot is still alive at this stage and a powerline has once again claimed another flying machine whatever it may be Alf

  19. Yes Laurie I was referring to the windmill at Cootamundra with the trike Flying in the dark will get you eventually in a trike

Probably still are Laurie Yes increased performance may have a minor detrimental effect on them but we as humans are still the weakest link Trikes don't fly in to windmills, stall turning final or come down due to floating cross tube jamming due to all the camping gear stored inside the wing without the human help Higher performance may give people the feeling of invincibility, overconfidence and belief that they can fly in more adverse weather conditions Note: not saying that this was the cause of this recent event

Firstly condolences to the family and friends of the deceased I flew Airborne Wizard, Streak 1, Streak 2, 2B Streak 3 & a SST wings Wizard- hated it, smacked around by turbulence, speed wobbles over 45kts when tucking the bar in to lose height Streak 1 wing- nice wing overall with inflight trim but slow (50kts) Streak 2 nice all round wing overall with inflight trim (54kts) Streak 2B nice wing overall with no inflight adjustable trim and set reflex (54 kts) Streak 3 - loved it quite stable pin point your landings and reasonable speed (60-61kts hands off) SST- overrated, claimed 70kts trim which the best I saw was 67kts but sat right wing low when in the front hole, middle hole (62kts) was much better, nice in turbulence as it was always in compression being strutted but could Dutch roll (side slip) really easy if you changed direction really quickly which was a horrible feeling as you basically felt like you flew side ways with what felt like minimal control and had to roll towards the skid to get it to basically hook up Did it twice, first time during a S turn and second time just after it to see if it was just a 1 off Never did it again From what I have heard the Arrow is a SST basically with a meter off the wingspan which helped the handing some what I am told Overall I did about 760 hrs combined with Airborne wings mostly on the 1, 3 & SST Never had any issues other than the SST those 2 times

  25. Way I look at it is if the fishermen had visibility of about a km at sea level the pilot had a lot less than that at any altitude above sea level Grey low clouds means grey sea very hard to distinguish a horizon My money is on spatial disorientation but that's only my opinion
