  1. Ahhh nup Raining down here in good old Gippsland And I'm tonguing for a fly
  2. As are your videos of your adventures Haydn & Alicia in that awesome RV of yours
  3. Sad that someone has passed in this accident, the pilot probably did his best to handle the situation ahead of him at the time. He is only human like the rest of us Shame we are always going to be judged by our last landing whether it be good or bad Lot of could haves - should haves but it is what it is and cannot be changed Sad part is the pilot will live for the rest of his life knowing someone lost their life while he was in charge
  4. Cheers Franco It's guys like you that keep me smiling not to mention motivated I like nothing better than seeing your pax's happy and smiling faces after you have introduced them to the joys of ultralight flight
  5. Love your work Franco Thanks for sharing some of your past Alf
  6. Hi Franco I work on the art of never rush a landing the plane will when it wants to at the right speed If it's not looking or feeling right push the throttle forward and go around, set up again and fly the numbers quoted by the manufacturer Peter Harlow put up a great post awhile back about how he hates instructors who say just add 10 to your approach speed (NOT saying this was the cause of this one) The Foxbat is one aircraft that certainly doesn't need extra speed The A22LS is quoted from memory at 49 kts when on final which already is giving you 7 kts additional approach speed than what you actually require and I'm guessing the A32 is no different My guess on this and only a guess is late roundout or trying to force it on carrying too much speed because how else do you shove a nose wheel that far back
  7. Touch and go Frank or smash and oh no go like this one
  8. Looks nasty, glad to see the crew made it out in reasonable shape and hope they recover quickly, hope the plane is insured as it can be replaced.
  9. Is this the post where the RV went bum up or is it a sitting in parliament?? Sure starting to look like parliament discussion time or adult kindergarten Move on and get over it and back to topic please
  10. Not before time I would say
  11. Come on Scuzz Just go by one on the sly and when Deb finds out about it deal with it then You'll probably be forgiven as your lowered in to the ground in years to come, but think of the fun you can have while your still upright lol She will get over it in a decade or 2 lol
  12. Not that cool here mate Happy NY to you, Deb and the kids
  13. Good outcome in the end with no injuries If he wanted hard packed sand he needs to land in a bunker at the Sale golf course as they are always rock hard
  14. Got bored today while the lovely went to work so I guess I went flying as the RAAF at East Sale are on holidays and I can actually fly during the day 12:30 lift off on a warm day and it was up to the stratosphere I headed settling for 7500ft for a jolly from West Sale down to Marlo taking in the beautiful Gippsland Lakes on the way down and back Didn't bother landing as I knew the thermals would be popping down there so just turned around overhead the Marlo (Orbost) field and climber another thousand for my hemispherical back to West Sale while monitoring Mel Ctr on 124.000 and listening in the whole trip other than outside the 10nm CTAF's View was sensational I must say as the visibility was perfect 20 out from East Sale at the boundary which is 30 from West Sale coming from the east I started leaving the stratosphere with a slow descent, tuned in to East Sale AWIS for a brief on conditions then back to the CTAF Power back to 4400rpm saw about a 500ft descent until passing East Sale but still at 4500 with 10 to go Power back to 3000 and carby heat applied we descended and ascended with the thermals and finally got back down to circuit height 1/2 a nm north of the field on the dead side of the main 1540m runway Decided on runway 32 (grass) as the wind sock wasn't telling me anything but the dust from the farmers plowing their paddock told me a northerly was on the ground Turning final to 32 I didn't feel right so poured on the coals and joined a low level downwind for runway 09 (AWIS said East Sale 090 at 9 But the sea breeze hadn't reached West Sale at that stage) 09 was a better choice in the end but that hot bitumen loves to test you as your holding a foot high round out In the end all was as the landing was good and smooth but the bonus was only about 4 bugs on each wing compared to 40,000 when I fly in the evening An enjoyable 1.8 on the Hobbs and 2 on the VDO saw my day come to an end on my 180nm jollie Lived that damn dream once again After today's flight I have topped 103.5 hours for the year with a few more to come before the end of the year
  15. Great thread to read guys Lot of good useful info for Yenn Please to see you got to drive it around the sky Yenn
  16. Hey Scuzz That'll learn ya to stay away from aviation for 28 years lol I been making up for you loss for the last 13 years after my break the same time as you Great to see you back in to it and enjoy your time in the Golf A fly of the Sierra awaits you next time you get back down to your old stamping ground in Victoria ya traitor lol or if I get up to Boonah one day Alf Ya Mexican mate
  17. A caution Akromaster I'm alway cautious around Bob and Sally 2 of the loveliest people you will ever meet Alf
  18. Especially so Nev if her own assets are still in good shape also
  19. Camel Yes the old Wizard wing I did a grand total of 2 hrs in one while training, I hated it We are our worst enemy in the end Alf
  20. Good work dan311 A lot of different opinions from a lot of different people will come and who is right??? Cannot blame the machine as yet as we need to know the cause Will we ever find out?? It remains to be seen My opinion on Airborne strutted wings??? Overrated from what is advertised regarding hands off cruise speeds I preferred the strutted wing in thermals as you got no wire slap as the wing was under tension and compression I'd did have a quirk I didn't like which it would side slip real easy if you threw it around during S turns losing height Other than that I felt quite safe behind it Mind you It did take the new owners life 14 months after I sold it to him but it wasn't the wings fault Any wing will stall if going to slow while banking 60 deg turning final and not just a Airborne wing Personally I think if you fly them within the parameters that they are designed for they are safe Are they as safe as a Air Creation wing or a Revo or a P&M wing??? I cannot answer that But we as humans are the ones that tell the wing what we want it to do Alf
  21. Old bloke!!!! Come on Bob but your right it is a bit of a jolly for a few days I'll see what's happening on the work front first but won't know till closer to the date
  22. Ya flyin up to it Bob?
  23. I probably forgot one of the most important things 10. Read and understand your flight and maintenance manuals and know the aircrafts limitations and remain inside them, otherwise you become a test pilot, and most test pilots wear parachutes, you most likely don't
  24. That's a tough one Chris, Here are my thoughts in no particular order 1. Treat flying with the respect it deserves 2. Conduct thorough preflight inspections of your aircraft 3.Check weather 4. Refrain from showing off 5. Practice what you were trained in emergency procedures between BFR's 6. Make smart decisions when flying if things aren't going as planned 7. Trust your gut feelings, if your not comfortable for some reason, don't go just to please others 8. Understand it can happen to you and you can be that someone else 9. Don't take risks They are some things I think we can do to stay safer Alf
  25. Tell him Phil Yep I saw one In the photo
