  1. Yep 25 years on the road for me on a bike also Gareth Countless times I could have been cleaned up so gave it away and took up a sport that I have less traffic to deal with and have my life in my own hands 99% of the time until I reach the circuit when a larger % of others come in to play Don't miss the bikes these days
  2. Your more than welcome Bernie Plenty of room at home if you want to overnight but not much hangar space for your bird though
  3. Well Turbs What can one say to that other than glad that a reporter wasn't around when those sheep, cattle and or Heiffers walked through a ditch as it would have been multiple crashes I think I might hav a crash today walking though a ditch
  4. Since when has running in to a ditch while taxying be classed as crashing Oh I know when the dipstick useless media wants to dramatise stuff Some should just not report
  5. Well we are hearing different stories then We have been told they won't be activating weekends as it is now I think in the 13 years I've been flying out of here I think the have activated 3 times for a short period to let something in The Roulettes when coming back in from weekends away just come in on the CTAF and the airspace doesn't activate Few weekends ago we got an email from the RAAF advising us they were going to activate the airspace for 1 1/2 hrs to allow the roulettes a practice session on a Saturday morning which they did from 7:30 till 9am
  6. scre80 You are so lucky over at Gawler The RAAF here own the airspace from surface to 45000 ft for 20nm then from between 4500 to 45000 ft from 20nm out to 50nm and we don't have one thing based here that fires a shot, CT4's, PC9's and Kingair 350's, we do get the occasional F18 and C17's as well as the other VIP jets on rare occasions, we do have a bombing range inside the 20 mile but haven't had the windows rattle for over 10 years The RAAF won't stop us flying if they are active as they have asked us to call them up for a clearance, the RAA is what stops me when the RAAF are active as we are not allowed to fly in controlled airspace ( but East Sale is classed as restricted airspace so it could be a grey area) I just don't fly because I'm concerned more about if I put down for some reason my insurance might not cover me if I'm flying out when they are active
  7. Howdy Capt Wally Most of my flying is on the weekends anyway an the rumour is they won't be activating weekends, same as it is now I still manage 100hrs a year with the airspace active during the week I think I know the property you were thinking of buying with the strip on it as I've flown over it many times It's about 3 kms north of Seaspray off the Seaspray - Sale road
  8. $27 a week at West Sale on the front apron Been with the hangar owner for almost 14 years, started off at $20 a week I'm not complaining, no landing fees and 3 beautifully maintained runways Only gripe of late is the RAAF has been staying active later on weekdays but still not active on weekends
  9. Your always forgiven OME If you were a Young Man Emu!!! Well then it might me a different story
  10. I'm with you Frank The engine stopped and he was forced to land otherwise if it kept going he wouldn't have landed in that paddock
  11. Those of us who do fly over terrain not suitable to land on are well aware of the risk Height is your friend on this one, I have crossed the great divide many a time and probably the longest time I would have is 5 minutes max when no options are available forward, back and off to the sides, at all other times I remains within gliding distance of grassed valleys / cleared areas and high country roads But I take this as a minimal risk as usually the engine has been performing perfectly for 35 minutes before getting to no mans land and if it is going to fail in that 5 minute period well I'm just Sh!t out of luck then I would never dare fly over the divide at tree top level or even a 1000 or 2 foot above it, most times I'm 4 1/2 or more above it Every time we fly we take a risk, every day we drive we take a risk, actually every day we wake up to tackle the day ahead is a risk of something happening Minimising the risk goes a long way in every way
  12. Good old news report at 2 pm on a major channel Light plane"ditched" in to paddock 150 meters away from a home Hey muppet ditching is in to water It forced landed you goon

  16. Awww Thanks Bob
  17. Them damn trees Frank have a lot to answer for Taken many a pilot and many a automobile driver But I guess the trees were there before the humans hit them so it's not the trees fault
  18. Took my nephew "Goose from Top Gun" for his first flight in a light aircraft from West Sale via the Gippsland Lakes to Lakes Entrance with a touch n go at Bairnsdale on the way up. We then followed the highway back to Stratford at 700 ft bypassing the towns in the way on the return journey From Stratford we tracked the rail trail all the way back to Toongabbie then climbed to 2500 ft and cut the corner of the hills to his home town of Yallourn North, with a doey around his home we then headed off to Newborough before making our way back to Latrobe Valley airport to drop him off to his parents Overall it was a great flight with 2.7 hrs for the day and he loved it Footnote: we didn't need to eject Check out the resemblance Cheers Alf
  19. Stevron Not as bad going across the top as some who have never flown it make it out to be I have flown various ways from West Sale to Porepunkah, Mt Beauty & Yarrawonga in both Trikes and 3 axis Up through the Licola Valley via Mansfield, up the Dargo Valley and around via Bairnsdale -Bruthen & the Livingston Valley & direct Lot of options if you plan it well and not fly tree top height, height is your friend
