  1. Pilot and Pax ok Plane a bit worse for wear
  2. Things you can do when you fly a chopper Better than wandering around aimlessly and running out of fuel Ohhh those ruskies
  3. Bex I think the Chewbacca (chewing tobacco) he was chewing might have been wintergreen, smells like denco rub so that could have played a part in it lol
  4. He is human after all, none of us are perfect and never will be. Few years ago he did a great job putting down the Ryan with no options and got out of it with a few scrapes and bruises This time he had lots of options so he took the taxiway It happens with a Sh in front of the it
  5. They have decided?????? More like CASA decided for them so they are making up an excuse for their out in aviation Cowboys don't belong in aviation to take innocent paying customers with them Sad in a way for the tourists frequenting the area to get a view from above but not sad if they are being reckless and endangering innocent lives
  6. About 30 + after us hazarding a guess Running out of food wasn't my issue it was the was it was presented by our leader that got me offside Water under the bridge now Bob
  7. I was sitting next to John Kennedy and Graeme Boatman Nev for awhile, White Rotax shirt & burnt orange shorts on and green Rotax 912 iS hat on
  8. Because Neil that 50 ft you may have gained might just get you to where you wanted to go and remember it's easier to lose height than gain it with nothing working up front All instructors obviously train different, I'm glad mine trained me this way as it seems most practical to convert the excess energy to height
  9. Well Neil I usually convert my excess cruise speed to height and gain a 100 or so to get to best glide speed That's what I was taught And don't forget you will glide further with a tailwind so always know which way the wind is blowing while over not so nice terrain. Plan to fly so the closer point on the tailwind side if need be is my motto and yes practice, know and get a feel of what your plane glides like I've done many over the last few years ranging from 19nm out at 7500 ft and made it back with the help of the TW for the first few thousand ft lost Done lots of others from 10 or so out from varying altitudes some made some not Doesn't make me perfect but does help knowing what your aircraft is capable of Footnote If it is EFATO or during climb it is nose over straight away or after the what the F*#£ startle factor just happened passes Sorry Frank didn't see your post before posting
  10. True Vev What a great turnout it was, it probably far exceeded their expectations, certainly surprised me also at the amount of people there I thought I saw you in the clubhouse so I'm sorry I didn't say hello to you, mind you it was pretty tight in there Michael and Darren have a job I do not envy and I'm pleased it is them in their battling for us instead of me I was just taken aback with the CEO's manners at that one point in time when the food ran out which didn't give me a good first impression so it set the tone for me for the rest of the time I was there + I had not long stepped out of a stuffy canopy after a 2 hr flight and stood in line for a good 5 minutes feeling a tad peckish Overall I enjoyed the flight down and back and was certainly impressed with the turnout but more so impressed with Lethbridge itself and the infrastructure they are setting up as they seem to have it going on with great commitment When I want a snag I'll just pop on down to Tyabb What time you fire up the barbie there ??? Lol I'll be sure to be early
  11. dsam I'm not overly fussed about the sausage either albeit I was a bit peckish after my 2 hr flight down What didn't impress me was the rudeness in our so call CEO that got me offside Manners don't cost anything to display And yes also my first time at Lethbridge and I was also impressed with the fuel set ups and the general outlay of the place What I found most impressive was the chalk board on the front of the clubhouse telling pilots to let someone know where your going Just Brilliant I thought as it looked well used I'm really sorry that I didn't get to meet many people who are on here that were there today Was a huge turnout as you say the RAA would be impressed
  12. Sorry I didn't get to meet you Nev & Bill But in hindsight they could have had a car run to the supermarket in Lethbridge for the 30 + odd people who didn't get a feed as there were a large number of cars there also but instead we got arms flailing and a that's it all gone, finished, no more from the HMFIC of our organisation Nice first impression I'd say lol Anyway it was a smooth slower flight down and a rough faster one home all in all a good day sort of
  13. Cudo's to the pilot pulling off a great landing
  14. Hi all fellow flyers who attended the BBQ and meeting at Lethbridge on the 4th of Feb Firstly I apologise for not introducing myself while there but us Gippsland flyers who flew down there for the BBQ and meeting were left a little jaded by the manners of the CEO once the food ran out at 12:32 pm for a 12:30 so called BBQ A sorry fellas we have just run out would have been acceptable and taken onboard instead of the rude "that's it all gone that's it no more" we received We were not the only ones that missed out by any means and yes before you all jump on the defense on catering for unknown numbers if your starting a BBQ at 12:30 start it at 12:30, I'm sure a few possibly went back for seconds but that's not my gripe And what's wrong with a few eskys if you over cater for an event or a freezer or a donation to the aero club if you have food left Yes they catered for more than the 7 that turned up at the last gathering and yes plenty turned up for this one which was great to see Anyways lost interest after that and sat outside listening for a bit, put a couple of tie downs in then thankfully another Gippsland Flyer said his sugar levels were suffering so we decided to bail around 2 pm before the rush So sorry all next time I'll make sure I bring a cut lunch and make sure I introduce myself On the upside despite his manners our CEO is doing a pretty good job imo Cheers Alf
  15. Culture has a lot to answer for then doesn't it Hence why I only fly western culture airlines with western trained pilots
  16. Hey Old Koreelah, If you look at the Anastasia plane that hit the rock wall In SFO the automation for the ILS which wasn't working and the pilots couldn't recognise the undershoot and the both had 10000hrs command time of automation and about 300 hrs of actual hands on flying You will never automate stick and rudder pilots we will always find a way to kill ourselves
  17. Spot on Nev And we as humans are and always will be the weakest link
  18. Sad fact is we are all human and it can happen to the best of them and to any of us. It has been happening since the dawn of aviation and continues to happen so why don't we learn This pilot never went out knowing it would be the end of time for him Discipline is required from all of us all the time while flying right up until the plane is back in the hangar Fly safe brothers and sisters
  19. Videos don't lie silvercity and that's only my opinion Sad that 2 people have lost their life it is such a tragedy
  20. Neil Looks to me like he stalled the inner wing during the turn Another pilot error by the looks of it
  21. Didn't think that was Marlo Bob lol
  22. AOC should have been pulled for reckless behaviour, pilots licence taken away for ever What a cowboy operation Wasn't a matter of what if it was a matter of when and when has come and gone
  23. I'm with you KRviator Peak hour traffic doesn't suit me either
  24. Nice to see he walked away ok But powerlines will usually kill you Glad he is ok
  25. Bit harsh Bex, World championships and a gaggle of gliders in a one particular thermal Lot of aircraft in one confined space is a recipe for a collision I'm pretty sure the gliders competing in a world championship would have been well maintained Also sure there wouldn't have been too many first solo pilots lol I'm guessing your comment was a tongue in cheek one
