  1. Well Bob Guess we won't be getting much feedback on any accident investigated by the coroner then. Unless of course if he is an aviation nut like the rest of us and has a vested interest in the rest of us to learn from someone else's unfortunate passing Alf
  2. It's ok Alan Some are sensitive and some are resilient and some just dont have a sense of humour but others like me do
  3. Welcome fella Enjoy it mate it is a great site and enjoy your flying as we all do
  4. Nev I hear what your saying, 1 loss is too many and we have had a few more than 1 over the years. None of the ones lost went out that day knowing they wouldn't be coming back home to their loved ones otherwise they would have stayed home. What is frustrating is we very rarely hear the actual cause of these accidents from the investigation if one is even carried out, we get no feedback to try and learn from the ones lost Yes some are from doing stupid stuff and aren't hard to work out, others from out of the ordinary from highly experienced and respected pilots are the ones that cause me most concern Yes we are all human even the most experienced ones and are all prone to making mistakes, I would like to know the causes of the not so obvious accidents like the recent ones to learn from them. Alf
  5. Had a lovely 4.1 hrs flying this afternoon Departed West Sale and headed 25nm SW to Latrobe Valley landing on 21 and then to the terminal to pick up my eldest brother for his first flight in the Sierra Gary all comfy and strapped in had us departing 21 and heading west towards his home in Newborough, couple of doeys around his house we then headed towards Western Port Bay about 40nm farther west. Just shy of WPB we turned south and headed for Inverloch and the coast about 25nm away, once overhead we tracked coastal to Waratah Bay then headed to Port Welshpool to overfly one of Gary's old mates who was a HDT team mechanic for the late Peter Brock during his career. After Welshpool we overflew Yarram and headed again for the coast and tracked 90nm to Lakes Entrance, couple of orbits over mum and dads place saw us tracking back to Latrobe Valley 75nm away to drop brother off after a enjoyable flight. A quick 25nm flight back to West Sale ended a cracker of a day with my brother and an enjoyable 4.1 hrs added in to the log book Lived the dream once again Alf
  6. Chris Probably the most popular brand flying in Australia has caused the most deaths as they far out number the imported brands As for human factors not being the majority of causes I would disagree with your comment as every accident has some form of human factors in it whether it be piloting skills, decision making, training, maintenance or lack of either (not in anyway insinuating anything anything of the above was related to this accident) They don't fly in to windmills by themselves in the dark, don't stall turning on to final by themselves, they don't fly well with floats strapped to the side of them, nothing flys well when the pilot becomes incapacitated, not even your imported brand and there are plenty more examples of human input accidents A bit like comparing Australian made cars to imported cars for the majority of fatalities in Australia Sounds to me like your having a cheap shot at a certain brand If your not I apologise but that's what I'm reading in your post Alf
  7. Hey DrZoos They are human like the rest of us No one is infallible or protected in the pursuit of flight Even the best of them come unstuck unfortunately We can all give up or we can continue Flying is not unsafe it is unforgiving when something happens I for one will continue my passion for flight Today is history and tomorrow brings mystery we must go on Alf
  8. Hi Mark Although I didn't know Crezzie personally like yourself and Troy I was very impressed with his contributions to this forum and his general knowledge of the trikes amongst other things He will be sadly missed on here as is Maj Millard and many others on here that have left us, my condolences go out to his family and his friends like yourself Another sad day in aviation with the loss of 2 more brothers of the sky Alf

  12. Pretty good weekend just gone. Flew from West Sale to Stawell on Friday afternoon after work to get the 5 yearly Rotax rubber replacement and a few other jobs done over the weekend by the fantastic people at Stawell Aviation Services the Victorian Tecnam dealer Flight up took 2.4 hrs for the 238nm trip as I was fortunate enough to catch slight tailwinds on Friday. A busy day Saturday had us not quite done early enough to allow me to get back home by last light on Saturday so another overnighter in a motel was in order A cold front was forecast to arrive by 10am Sunday which had me slightly anxious about getting home but it passed through early around 5am. Early start beginning at 7:30 saw the remaining work completed by 9am and the baby all back together and topped off with fuel and checked for leaks and ready to head home All ready to go and expecting a relatively quick trip home with the preceding front well in to Gippsland had the wheels lifting off Rwy 29 at Stawell at 09:55 with the intention of climbing to my initial cruising level of 5500ft but it was not as smooth as I hoped for so up to 7500 I went and was topping out at almost 160kts GS. The first leg of 107nm from Stawell to Torquay took a mere 44 minutes which included my climb and the next leg from Torquay to West Sale at 131nm took 64 minutes landing at 11:43 so it was a smooth fast trip home with an overall average of 132kts GS Huge thanks to John Kennedy from SAS for giving up his weekend to do the work and teaching me a little more about my aircraft Cheers Alf Few pics of the return flight home with the front just south of me heading up the Latrobe Valley
  13. One of the best the world will ever see in aviation circles True legend of aviation and I could only wish to achieve 1/20th of what he did in aviation Great innings Bob only wish you could have been around for another 94 years RIP Bob Hoover wherever you now may be
  14. Picture of the landing would be better lol
  15. Nice excuse Scott Obviously you didn't FLY it all the way to the ground, and what about the other eye eh lol Alf
  16. I wear multi focal glasses all the time these days as need them for reading and distance, took a little getting used to initially but wouldn't be without them, also have transitional multifocal sunglasses but never wear them in the plane anymore as it makes the gauges on the panel hard to see and also shows the colours in the lexan screen which is distracting Alf
  17. A testament to probably the best survivable airframe in the recreational aviation fleet Cannot doubt how many have survived Jab incidents

  22. Surviving it Frank That was what the well done was for
  23. Good result for the occupants considering the look of the plane Well done pilot The well done is of course only if the engine failure was not caused by air in the tanks
