  1. The aircraft is a swift glider, a full composite hangglider(sort off). Yes there is a seat to sit on. I reckon they are great.
  2. My point exactly, not a full medical as per CASA's regs but a decent check up that gets sent to RAA. That would be great.
  3. Couldn't agree more but what about the innocent people that get hurt by others actions. There will be a day when medicals are compulsary and to be honest I am looking forward to that day.
  4. I did all the tests needed for a Class 1 which is severly overkill for what I wanted but a good idea all the same. As BigBlock stated it involves an ECG, Audio,Opthamology and Urine tests. I was also tested for Body Mass and Lung Capacity aswell as medications. All up it was a grand total of approx $300. Cheap investment in my books but a class 2 would be cheaper from what I have heard. As far as Mal's comment stating another way for CASA to close you down I have to opinions. One if you are medically unfit you shouldn't be operating and two why can't RAA administer their own medical system.
  5. Not trying to open a can MM just wanted to express my opinions and I cant understand where you got the cancer within 3 years=no medical. I personally know a QANTAS captain who has had cancer and holds a medical. He has been cleared both by a Doctor and Qantas?
  6. I would like to ask a few questions, why should we either wait for accidents to happen and then look at wether medicals could have prevented it. What a backwards way of thinking. If a pilot has a medical condition that effects his or her flying they should NOT fly even for recreation. Also with all the extra options we are voting for we should all take a look at ourselves and promote our safety. Besides If we are medically fit we have nothing to worry about and if we know we are not and fly say no more
  7. This topic has been widely discussed before I know but I woud like to see all of peoples reasons for and against. I went through a pilot medical this morning and quite honestly feel alot better for it. People in other threads have made reference to the over the top costs and so on but I can't see where that is justified. As I am aware RAA does not require medicals but I made the decision as I am learning and the old solo is hopefully not to far in the future I wanted to know I was fit to fly. I think the old standard of if you are fit to drive a car you are fit to fly just doesn't cut it as the two are nothing alike. Obiviously I passed and I can say it is a relief knowing that everything is ok but I have heard others make comments like I could no longer pass a CASA medical so I have converted to RAA. Please tell me if I'm wrong but how is that a justification to others or oneself. Yes we fly only for recreation and yes we have less regulations but we still FLY. If we have a turn whilst driving for instance dizziness we can pull over but when flying, not that simple. I can understand that yearly medicals might be over the top but maybe a two yearly check up or a designated RAA medical, similiar to CASA but not as indepth could be an option. Whats everyones thoughts.
  8. I think some samples must have been put in on of those girly mags lately as my wife seems to be smoking the same stuff:laugh: I'm just on 100kg's thanks to the sales rep lifestyle, driving, talking, eating, driving, sleeping lol
  9. The inspectors noticed the didn't have their ASIC tags and the were told to MOOve on.
  10. Hi all, the xmas holidays are coming up and I have set myself a new project-making a landsailer. I have used a friends one numerous times but his is a factory built blokart. I would love one but just cand seem to come to terms with the $3000 pricetag for what I see as a wheelbarrow with a windsurfer sail. lol Has anyone on here either owned one or still own one and any hints? I found the below pics on the net of other homemade ones
  11. I'm with HPD I can't see where all the hysteria comes from, look back 100 yrs, there was drought, storms, rain, snow so whats different. As we start to develop this fine land of ours we change the shape dramatically, new water courses new valleys etc. As we change this we will change the way the weather travels as the wind has new paths to follow etc. The Gap in Brizzie is a fine example it has been stripped of alot of trees, estates have been cut out of the mountains and alot more area is covered by houses. Isn't it true that windspeed can be increased when flowing between buildings and the like. Everyone needs to realise that old mother earth has a lifespan to and no matter what we do or not it will make no difference in the end.
  12. Icebob and Ozzie, Thanks for sharing your stories, this thread has been a great read, please share more:thumb_up::thumb_up:
  13. Steady on this is Brocky the King we are talking about HPD lol:laugh:
  14. Couldn't agree more, it is a sad state of affairs isn't it. When a airline as big as that with as many aircraft in service as they do that at their heavy maint facility doesn't have parts that commonly can be damaged even in minor events.
  15. Agreed, I have just spoken to a person I know in Qantas who is envolved in the maint of both aircraft and the first 747 is up for a new radome and nosecone and the other a small length of leading edge only about a foot and a new winglet. Both expected to be completed within 1 day as soon as the parts arrive. There was no excessive stress t the aircraft well no more than what its put under during heavy flights. All cosmetic
  16. Couldn't agree with you more, but I think this one just might take a little more repairing lol more like "Hanger Laciration" .
