1. i am sitting in a 3star motel room at Echuca as i type, and the Savannah is on Victorian soil for its first time.. tomorrows ultimate destination is the Grampians, but what is there to see in between? we have about 2 or 3 days before departing north for outback NSW. the only must see location is the 12 Apostles so far, which we might aim for tomorrow morning from Echuca before heading north to the grampians, and some fuel... locations with credit card bowsers would be good. and accomdation would be nice also, we have no real plan, just touring.
2. does the bowser at broken hill use credit cards now?
3. Red Bull air race! so 2011? this is where its at, Aerocross...
4. what, like this?
5. Nowra is usually deactivated over the christmas break, just listen up on the atis freq and it will tell you at the time as well. basically it becomes a big CTAF quite a few Raaus aircraft operate in there outside of tower hours. but they can reactivate at short notice, at which point, if you are in the zone, you will be given adequate time to vacate the area.
6. looks ok to me, he had plenty of energy in reserve, the turn wasnt that low when you pause the outside vid and have a look. he nailed the landing and dead on centre line. he knew what he was doing. now to really get your knickers in the anti fun knot...
7. the prices are listed down the right side of the page, scroll down... actually, quite well priced!
8. actually, after a short read, it is quite legal in Oz as well, you only need to requirements to land pretty much anywhere in Oz, 1st, the landowners permission, 2nd, an assessment from the pilot that the surface is safe for the operation of the aircraft. so, if you crash, you obviously failed in the 2nd. so its quite legal in Oz.
9. CAR's? why read them when its perfectly legal in some states in the USA, and landing on roads is part of the syllabus in Alaska. Australia is a NO FUN nanny state.
10. i just want to know what he is flying?
11. deleted post. nothing of interest, pretty drunk..
12. i think the carby rubber mounts cracking issue can be greatly effected by the installation in each aircraft, i have noticed with my savannah, that the carby rubber mounts were still in very good condition with no sign of cracking after 800hrs. and yes, the mounting was removed, and inspected inside and out. yet the mounting of the carbys in the school tecnam have been showing signs of cracking every 200 hrs. the difference i believe is the extra support offered to the carbys themselves via the aluminium air box that itself is mounted at 2 points on the aft of the engine block, therefor the carby is supported from both ends, and is attached to the engine at both supports, so the carby cannot move independently of the engine via G force, or engine movement. whereas the Tecnam carbys are only supported at the intake manifold end. and are feee to move with vibrations and G loads. also the mounts are supporting the weight of the air filters and the cabys themselves.
13. NSW can you please bid for the race!
14. nothing like a few hrs of decent crosswind circuits to keep your hand skills up.. good to see the Jabs and other aircraft out long after the sausage factory schools call it a day when winds get to 10 kts. actually, was that video taken last saturday? i was returning in the Savannah and heard that runway right was now available again.... dont worry about the tyre, i have closed a runway at bankstown when a tyre decided to remove itself from a rim not long after touchdown, sadly we couldnt taxi clear of the runway though, quite embarrassing. I have quite a few hrs in the right hand seat of 7295, how is 4868 going? loved flying that, untill its wheel decided i needed a break mid runway.
15. the only 912 engine failure i have seen was on one run exclusively on Avgas, and oil changes were not done regularly enough, oil was almost silver with lead before it was replaced, engine failed due to cracked cam shaft, resulting from lead past clogging a fine oil gallery lubricating part of the camshaft. one side lubricated, one side not= cracked camshaft.
16. Ash racked up his turbine time in Bowies van, worth a call at least
17. try to keep about 5 iles away from the drop zone untill all chutes are on the ground. or about 3 mins after the drop call.
18. that scares me almost as much as teaching your wife/partner to fly.... and yes, i have taught my partner, at the time, to fly... but i hold a Senior instructor rating...
19. i think some might have missed the point, landing fees, no problem paying... excessive landing fees yes. especially when the airfield is in poor condition and the runway would have been smoother covered in speedhumps. and it was a council operated airport.. as for user pays, well, yes and no. private airfields, no problem there, but public airports, should be more like who benefits pays... community benefits, community pays, as well as air operators and people who directly use the airport of course.
20. its not just the landing fee issues, im quite happy to pay them if they are reasonable, and actually at an airport i have flown to, as for reasonable, i dont mean, "as soon as the aircraft has shut down and the door is open, walk up to me and demand a landing fee as im still undoing my seatbelts. That will be $15! sorry, i dont have cash on my, no problem, i have eftpos inside.." yeah, i had a great flight thank you very much, see you again soon.... not likely.. for half that price i get 3 runways, proper lighting, miles and miles of taxiways and ILS if i want, and professional guidance from the guys in the tower.
21. I have No issue with paying the fees, actually, the fees for Bankstown were cheaper than i had expected, at YWOL, we paid a yearly fee. the RAAus just forwarded on the letter for payment, so i only have to pay directly to Bankstown airport corp. actually, after looking at the bill, both camden and Bankstown are owned by the same company, so could just be a typo
22. Dont worry RAAus are busy at the moment, just got a lovely letter from them demanding Landing fees of $48 for Bankstown and Camden airports... even though i have never flown the Savannah into Camden airport.
23. Ring the FAA in the USA, pay a licence fee, copy the part 103 of the FARs or relevent documents, replace FAA with the new acronym for the new organisation.. done... i do believe its pretty much what the NZ CAA has done when it came to reform, something CASA has taken nearly 25 yrs to do....
24. sad thing is, making aircraft totally silent will not silence the noise complainers. they will then just start to whinge about the pollution they generate... or the contrails, opps, chemical trails..
