  2. in the GA Catagorie, Vans RV's would have to be the most popular by far. in RAAus, Jabiru would be near the top, ICP Savannah would be up there also, quite a few getting around now.
  3. Stalling is a function of AOA, not speed, could the issue be the carrying of extra weight in the form of water be the problem? more weight requires higher speed to fly, and the pilot tries to get airborne at the usual speed, and in failing to do so, increases AOA to get more lift. increased AOA= more drag, then you find yourself on the wrong side of the drag curve at a critical phase in flight?
  4. the little LSA Jabiru will teach you to really fly. the aircraft won't help you at all. and if you can master the LSA, then you can easily fly anything.
  5. You haven't failed Andy, some people refuse to accept common sense, might need to get detective inspector John to do a factual and graphic seminar at NATFLY next year on the causes to get rid of the "it can't happen to me" attitude. As for no one stepping in to prevent an accident, I blame society for the fear of offending culture that now permeates everything
  6. Sadly ill be forced to fly low, and take the car, the Savannah is due for its 100 hrly service, and I'm still waiting on parts from the USA.
  7. yes, with the right training.. but not many, if any RAaus rego aircraft are not approved for spins... oh, and get the right training.. I'm just about to begin Aerobatic training with red Baron.
  8. how much do you charge for a few bushes, i need a few for my Savannah. after 800 hrs i have noticed considerable wear in all the flaperon bushes. i need about 20 each of these to keep me supplied for a while. made of sintered brass
  9. our VG now has 800 hrs on it, and the only ones broken are in front of the fuel fillers, caused by fuel lines and jerry cans hitting them.
  10. the technam handles like a sports car, the J170, more like a small truck.
  11. and where is the clifton fly-in?
  12. invest in a small header tank maybe to make sure something similar can't happen again?
  13. Don't forget, the 75 hr number is a legal number, in reality, i have never met a new instructor with just 75 hrs. Most if not all the Raaus instructor i know, myself included had at least 500 hrs before deciding on instructing, and all are CPL or GA rated instructors before becoming RAAus rated instructors.
  14. sadly i don't have permission to customise my homepage.
  15. ok, stupid question following, how do you add widgets?
  16. No, the AS350 or better know as "the Squirrel" is french made. also, the entire front canopy is one piece, made from 1 piece polycarbonate, just like a remote control car body, and its bonded onto the rear half, also, one piece of polycarbonate. hence under such forces it separated at the join. there is really not much to the structure at all, as you can see here.. this part, bolts onto this part.. and you have a complete helicopter..... and also, explains why they come apart so easily in such resonance situations..
  17. so how is it any different from a 120hr CPL getting his instructor rating and training those to commercial level.... or any different to a 200 hr pilot in the right seat of a 200 seat passenger jet?
  18. good, it has 85 yrs left to run on the lease to be operated as an airport, so hopefully, the new owners might be a bit more pro active rather than trying to screw every cent from the operators there.. the rents on hangarage and aircraft parking are charged at the same rate as commercial property.... it explains why YSBK at least is a ghost town. when i tried to get a permanent parking spot at YSBK, it took me over 15 phone calls, and no one could tell me anything, other than "just park it, and we will charge the daily parking rate of $35" not to mention the $10 per movement charge..
  19. Nahhhh a kingair will get in there, let the insurance company worry about getting it out...
  20. it should work at a set Angle of Attack, not airspeed. and that will be dictated by the small vent in the wing leading edge.
  21. we are all here for you and the rest of the guys, feel free to call anytime.
  22. also, the tanks being plastic inserts in the wing, when you spill some, some of the fuel will spill into the cavity in the wing around the tank, and from there the fuel fumes will fill the cab through the wing root area. i have had this a few times when spilling a bit of fuel. but once airborne the smell goes away. and its not normally a large amount either.
  23. we get a few fumes in the cab opening the door after its been sitting for a while, but nothing major or to worry about, but we will get fumes in flight if we have full tanks and we fly for a while on the left tank and don't drain from the tank that takes the engine return fuel, it will then overflow via the breather tube, and start flowing back under the wing and will eventually find its way back to the top of the door and fill you up with fumes. not to mention leaving a nice yellow stain under the wing.
  24. yeah, it was an R44, quite a nice one, we taxied out past them before they departed, when we arrived at YWOL 15 mins later, we were told it had crashed with the loss of the crew. quite a shocking and nauseating feeling really. also sadly, it came down right in front of the clubhouse witnessed by the usually crowd there as well as a few younger children.. at the moment Andy, (motz) and Liz are quite shaken up and needing our support.
